Salerno Duane Mitsubishi Reviews (2)

Review: My problem has to do with Salerno Duane dealership in Summit, NJ. I leased, via [redacted] a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I received notification that I could possibly turn in my lease early and re-lease another vehicle. My husband 1st visited [redacted] on 4/23/2014. , [redacted], a different dealership, called [redacted] to obtain the buyout cost of my vehicle as they wanted to do a DIRECT PURCHASE FOR INVENTORY as it's referred to in the industry. This is where [redacted] did not do their due diligence when closing my new re-lease agreement for a new vehicle. My husband reached an agreement with the Sales person [redacted] for a set upon monthly lease for a 2014 vehicle and left with the vehicle. Shortly, thereafter, I received a letter that I owed [redacted] funds on my lease. I called Salerno & they said that I needed to stop by & pick up a check for $918 that had to be sent to [redacted]. I sent the funds to [redacted] which was then applied. I thought I was done with the transition. On 7/8/2014, I received another letter from [redacted] that I still owed 3 payments &a fee for a total of $1,751.15. I asked [redacted] if [redacted] called for payout for the DIRECT PURCHASE FOR INVENTORY price which included what was owed. [redacted] said NO THEY DID NOT CALL IN. Why would [redacted] call but not Salerno? On 7/14 my husband visited with Manager, [redacted]. [redacted] did not want to deal w/the issue. He did call [redacted] and spoke to his "friend" there in front of [redacted]/Sales & my husband. His friend the supplier rep (he would not provide his name) that is the go between [redacted] & the dealership. In front of my husband while on the phone he admitted they should have called and said to his "friend" "WE DON'T LIKE TO CALL BECAUSE YOU KNOW WE WON'T RE-LEASE WITH YOU SO YOU ADD FEES". That's unethical business. They had a copy of my lease and knew it was 39 months! Yet they won't take ownership of the mistake and pay what's due. Bad business I will pursue.Desired Settlement: Settlement is that Salerno pay what's due to [redacted] $1,751.15 due to their negligence in not calling in for a payout on a vehicle that I DID NOT OWN. It was leased. How do you purchase a vehicle from someone who doesn't own it and not find out what's left on the lease??? By the way, I have a copy of my original lease and it was provided to the Salerno during the deal. It clearly says 39 months yet they closed the deal on 36 months so that they could get the sale.

Response:

lam in receipt of your letter dated 07-23-14[redacted] came into the dealership to purchase a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When negotiating her deal she stated she had 2 payments left on her lease and wanted us to "take care of them" in her new deal. We agreed. Turns out when she received her final bill from [redacted] a month later, she had 5 payments left. Her husband came into the dealership and stated that he would like us to pay for the 3 additional payments even though they were mistaken when they told us they only had 2 left. I explained to him that we cannot just pay an additional $1751.15. He asked why we “would take the customer's word on payments remaining". I asked him why we wouldn't.

Unfortunately [redacted] made a clerical error when they calculated their remaining payments. We honored what they asked to us pay. When they realized their error, they wanted Salerno Duane to pay more. This we cannot do.

Review: I purchased a 2010 Jeep Liberty in March of 2013 from Salerno Duane Jeep in Summit, NJ. We have been customers of theirs previously since 2014. The vehicle purchased was a used vehicle on their lot, which was just returned off lease with one private owner. The miles were 23,000.from the first oil change, we noticed that the car kept losing oil. The car has been in the service department six more times with the same problem and the same remedy each time. On this occasion, I reported that there is no oil reading on the dipstick. They added several quArts of oil and gave me an appointment for the following month, being May 21st with a loaner, as this is my family's only vehicle. As I am now very frustraed, I went over to management asked for the salesman and manager that I dealt with, who are no longer there. I dealt with a new manager upon examining my history informed me that he needs to get me out of the car.he also is baffled by the issue. I have decided to call corporate and have been assigned a case number but I feel there is no resolve. I feel that the car is a lemon and I am now stuck with a car that is losing oil. My driveway is ruined an know have a liability on my hands. Case number [redacted]Desired Settlement: The amount of the car and the loan.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:As per our conversation, I am writing to inform you that we did take the jeep to Selerno Duane on May 18th and upon arrival,we were asked to sign a form to work on the car,but were refused the right to read the form. Not feeling comfortable with signing something not reviewed I refused and left. I was also looking at my file. While the man was taking information, he saw me looking at the paperwork and told me I was not supposed to see the contents of the paperwork. I felt very uncomfortable with this. After a conversation with Chrysler Jeep corporation and upon their advisement, I took the car to [redacted] They were so wonderful and accommodated us. No forms required. Unfortunately,a week later, the driveway has fresh oil stains.A sidenote: on April 29, 2015, after the sixth attempt of trying to fix this car with Salerno Duane's service department, I went to approach the manager that had sold me the car, the new manager at Salerno (sales) told me that," there is something wrong with the car and we have to get you out of this car and into a new one". Although, this would be a likely solution for Salerno which would also be a monetary gain for them, I would be stuck with the 15,000 left unpaid to bank and a new car payment. The manager and salesman that sold us the car are no longer employed with Salerno.
