Salina Family Chiropractic Reviews (1)

Review: I have tried to share this problem/complaint of mine with [redacted] at Salina Family Chiropractor but he did nothing about it. Here is my story. This man totally took advantage of me. During my exam which was totally over-priced ($185) NO cash rates or discounts if you don't have insurance that covers. He barely had any time to spend with me. He did a couple quick tests which never followed up with results and charged me extra. He kept letting other customers interrupt our time together and never even shut the door, he repeated himself a lot (probably due to all the interruptions and distractions he allowed). He never even adjusted me in the first exam and when I had asked about costs of the next visit ("to check the tests he had done") he just blew me off and said we would talk about it at the next visit. I should have never come back because when I did it was the same with the interruptions and he then proceeded to tell me if I didn't sign up with him for a year with the choice of 3 different payment options that the visit would be $120 instead of $45 for his discounted year rate. I couldn't believe it, how did he expect someone that is just meeting him to sign their life away? He totally scammed and deceived me - if I had known this when I asked him about the costs in the exam I wouldn't have come back. He deliberately didn't tell me. This man cheated me out of $300. Since I let them know after the second visit I wasn't comfortable for signing for a year. I even called back to tell him how I felt an how I thought it would be fair to at least get a refund for the second visit since I tried to inquire about costs. He wouldn't do it. He basically blew me off and told me it's my fault because I don't have insurance! He was also mad because his wife answered my first call and was upset I told her how I felt deceived. Even though this happened a couple months ago it is still haunting me since he did nothing to resolve it. I feel completely cheated by him. Nothing he ever did for me earned him $300, he barely spent enough time talking to me.I even posted a review online and he completely denied it to make himself look better to the viewers. I don't feel this is fair and I feel like this man is abusing his license. I don't know if he thought he could do this to me because I am young (23 years old) but either way it was wrong.Desired Settlement: I expect to get both of my visits refunded. A total of $305.00

I am writing in response to the complaint [redacted]. The customer has made many false accusations in the complaint filed to the Revdex.com. I hope to clarify these for you. The customer seems to be rather confused about her health insurance policy. We have tried to explain this to her on several occasions; however, she seems to remain confused.

The customer made an appointment to be treated by Dr. [redacted] on February 27, 2013. She informed our office that she has insurance and wished to use it for her visit. It is part of our regular procedures to verify all insurances prior to billing. The customer's insurance was verified on February 27, 2013. In this verification, I was notified that the patient has an individual deductible of $1500.00 that must be met before the insurance will make payments. After this deductible is met, the insurance would then proceed to pay 80% of the amount. Due to the unmet deductible, the patient was liable for the full amount billed. She received a credit toward her deductible for the amount billed. This is according to her insurance policy, not dictated by our office. The patient was only charged for services received and in the amount deemed acceptable by her insurance policy. While the customer appears to be unsatisfied by the amount due, she was given credit toward her insurance deductible ($1500). As a courtesy to the customer, we gave her a $20.00 credit toward her first visit; however she still received the full amount credited toward her deductible. The customer paid a total of $285.00; $165 for the first visit (normally $185.00) and $120.00 for the second. She received a credit toward her insurance deductible of $305.00. Please see the attached documents for more details.

In this complaint, the customer requests reimbursement for the amount of $305.00. Not only is the amount incorrect, but she has already been credited for her deductible. This means that her insurance assumes she has paid the amount she is responsible for and credits her for future medical payments. Perhaps the customer should consider adjusting her insurance policy to a lower deductible. That, however, is out of our control. We apologize for any inconvenience. You will see all documentation attached to refute the many false allegations made in this complaint. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. After reading this response from Salina it is rude they are saying I am confused, I understood fully that my insurance didn't cover it. I wasn't concerned about any credit toward the deductible. However, they never gave me a receipt or told me I received a $20.00 credit, which is why I thought I paid $305. That is what my insurance bill said (The only form of written receipt I ever received.) This doesn't make up for the fact that during the exam I was charged for x-rays that were NEVER taken. They still charged me for that which is wrong. I tried to get them to discount it but they wouldn't. If they communicated with my properly about the finances in the first visit instead of telling me to come back and find out about how they would charge. I wouldn't have come back. The fact they charged me for the x-rays I never received is ridiculous and another scam. They are trying to remain innocent and bring it all back to insurance but I am not concerned about insurance. I paid all of this out of pocket and they tried to scare me into signing with them for over a year to get the discounted price. Now that I have discovered how other Chiropractor's operate I feel that this was totally unjust. I was not given enough time to ever justify these amounts charged, we were constantly interrupted. They didn't handle or communicate with me professionally.Like I said, when I asked in the first place to have the second visit refunded since I wouldn't have come back if he didn't insist we talk about payments at the next visit. That was very deceitful since I wasn't able to sign for the year. I could have just wasted the exam fee money. They wouldn't even work with me that way, let alone charging me for x-rays that were not taken.

Response:

I am writing in response to the complaint [redacted]. The customer has again made false accusations in the complaint filed to the Revdex.com. I hope to clarify these for you.

The customer makes claims that she was charged for x-rays that were not taken. The customer requested to be seen without getting x-rays. Although we generally require x-rays for the first visit for thoroughness, we were considerate of her request. The customer did not receive x-rays in our office, and therefore was not charged for them. This is quite clear in the paperwork previously sent to you. If you review the ledger, showing all charges and transactions, you will see this accusation is false. The customer was not charged for any services she did not receive. The amount she paid our office has been processed through her insurance and already come off of her deductible. We have followed the rules throughout this process and tried to accommodate the needs of the customer. At this point, we feel there is nothing more we can do to resolve this issue. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and advise the customer to review her insurance policy.
