All screws stripped and 1 is a WD screw, not a [redacted].
Unable to return 2 screws to chassis.
Cover bent, looks like someone opened the drive with a chisel and hammer.
Rings across parking area and at random spots on top platter, appears to be fingerprint or similar gunk,  does appear to be cleanable.
Parking area appears to be head residue perhaps from blown preamp causing slider melt?  Two platters and unable to see other surfaces.  Assuming top platter bearing the works of the problem.  Fingerprints all over top magnet.

On 3/14/14 customer called extremely upset saying that Salvage Data opened the hard drive and intentionally damaged the hard drive.  We tried to explain to the customer that we do not destroy property and all we did was a preliminary evaluation to see what we could from the device.  Our policy here at Salvage data is performed an evaluation,  in which the engineers examine the condition of the drive to determine if the data is recoverable.  No work is performed until an approval for recovery is confirmed by customer.  In this case, the customer declined and drive shipped back to the customer.  A no warranty sticker was placed on the drive by SalvageData as the drive arrived to the facility already opened and worked by another entity, which is unidentifiable as the entity itself did not place a warranty sticker of their own.

On 3/18/14 the CEO and customer had a discussion regarding this issue, Salvage Data performed the free evaluation on a hard drive that was previously opened and had significant damage, we reported this to customer along with a quote for recovery and an attempt fee.  We also explained to the customer that the hard drive was damaged  was delivered to SalvageData in that condition, no malice was done at Salvage Data.

Review: I Requested Data Recovery Service for a customers [redacted] Hard Drive; Salvage Data Recovery (Project Case ID#[redacted])Unfortunately there was no reason for Salvage Data to Destroy the [redacted] hard drive we sent to be evaluated. Not only did they opened this Drive forcefully & unnecessarily; it now has so much damage it cannot even be considered for Data Recoverable as determined by another firm "Low Cost Data Recovery". I had sent the drive forward via [redacted] for a second opinion as to the Drives recoverability. Tech took one look at the damage and called me to let me know the damages to the drive were far beyond any chance of data recoverable after this extent of damage while in possession of Salvage Data Recovery Service.Desired Settlement: It was totally unnecessary for Salvage Data to completely Destroy the [redacted] Hard Drive. .P.S. To Salvage Data: We dont know why Salvage Data choose to destroy our Hard drive and there was no agreement even made or agreed to begin tearing the Drive all to pieces. They didnt need to do even more damage it in the process of any evaluation od recovery. If a reasonable resolution cannot be agreed as to repairing the damage to our drive as the data previously, have no idea if anything can be done

To Whom It May Concern,

This responses is in regard to ID [redacted]. **. [redacted] sent in his [redacted] 750 GB Desktop HD/ and an extra circuit board. MDL: [redacted], S/N: [redacted] to us on 2/24/14.

We received the hard drive on 2/25/14 and when we received the above referenced hard drive our shipping manager made the notation in notes that this hard drive was previously opened and therefore the warranty was voided.

On 2/25/14 our lab technician examined the hard drive to determine if we would be able to recover the data from this hard drive but upon examination he found the follow:

Drive has been previously opened by outside clean room.

No seal in place.

All screws stripped and 1 is a WD screw, not a [redacted].

Unable to return 2 screws to chassis.

Cover bent, looks like someone opened the drive with a chisel and hammer.

Parking area appears to be head residue perhaps from blown preamp causing slider melt? Two platters and unable to see other surfaces. Assuming top platter bearing the works of the problem. Fingerprints all over top magnet.

Upon this evaluation our technicians gave a low likelihood of recovery due to the previous damage doen to the drive before arriving at Salvage Data.

On 2/27/14 we reached out to customer to follow up and he wanted his hard drive back.

On 3/4/14 customer paid for the shipping of his hard drive and we shipped the hard drive back (along with extra circuit board).
