Review: [redacted], [redacted] and [redacted] of Sam Mechanical, Inc. removed an old oil fired warm air furnace and installed a new one on 3/**/13. The old unit had a place inside for the air filter and the new unit has an external filter rack. I have had trouble with the filter rack accommodating the air filter from the beginning but all along I thought it was my lack of mechanical skills where the problem lay. Since then two mechanics could not insert the filter into the rack, either. With each try the filter lost more and more of its integrity. I called [redacted] today 7/*/14 and told him of my plight and he insisted that is "not his problem" and that a service call would cost me $135.00. [redacted] also insists that he did not change the size of the ducts - BUT somehow the old unit called for filters 16X25X1 and the new unit calls for filters 20X30X1. However, the 20" is too large and [redacted] said that is why I am having the problem and that I should SHAVE it with a RAZOR to about 19 1/2" so the external rack will accommodate it. Somehow I do not think this is a solution -it's too make-shift for the $2800.00 it cost me. The external rack has jagged metal edges, does not accommodate the filters and [redacted] will do nothing to help me - except to charge me another $135.00 service call. The filter never needed changing and my house is dustier than ever so I think that this external filter rack is not holding the filter properly to allow it to catch any of the dust.Desired Settlement: A resolution for me would be for [redacted], [redacted] and [redacted] of Sam Mechanical, Inc., to install another external filter rack - one that is sized to accommodate the larger filters and one that holds them in place to catch the dust and one that has no jagged metal edges, and one that is not attached to the new unit with tape, which I forgot to mention above. And, all at no additional cost to me because it should have been done right from the beginning of the installation. Thank you.

Response:

In response to the above complaint I have called the customer three times left messages on 7/[redacted] 7/** and 7/**- e-mailed on 7/** to send someone over to look at the problem and see what could be done to satisfy them. As of this response to you we have not heard back from them. Sam mechanical installed an oil furnace over 1 yr ago- We removed the existing furnace and disposed of it. The new furnace was installed with a filter rack so new filters could be installed with screws and taped to prevent any air leakage. At the time of installation we installed a filter with no problems. Customer called us and stated she could not change filter. We explained to her that there was no problem with the filter when it was installed previously and since it has been over a year that there would be a service call charge of $135 plus tax to come and look at it since this is not part of the equipment warranty. That is the last we heard of her until the Revdex.com complaint.

As I stated above when we received the Revdex.com complaint we have tried to connect her and they have not responded back. We feel we made every effort to contact the customer. This case should be closed with no further action.
