I signed up and pre-paid for two Reiki Attunement classes through Samadhi Yoga on February 18, 2020. The first class was set to be held on May 23, 2020. Due to COVID-19, I reached out to Samadhi Yoga via email on April 22, 2020 asking if the classes were going to be rescheduled or cancelled. Samadhi Yoga responded on April 23, 2020 that they would be making a decision about the classes soon. I received the following email from Samadhi Yoga on April 26, 2020:
Hi Friends,
In light of the mandatory business closures, we have rescheduled Reiki Attunement Level 1 for June 20, which was the original Level 2 date. Level 2 will be rescheduled and we will keep you informed of new date.

This was the last I heard from the studio. I drove down to Denver from Winter Park the morning of June 20, 2020 for my class. When no one showed up and it was a few minutes past the time the class was intended to start, I tried to call the Studio. The number had been disconnected. I sent an email to the studio and received an auto response informing me that the studio has closed indefinitely. I immediately sent another email stating that I was never informed of this closing and needed my $400.00 refunded. I received no response. I then reached out to the studio via Facebook Messenger on Sunday, June 21, 2020. I received a response from the owner stating that she would not be refunding me because she is bankrupt. I saw on Facebook that she has a GoFundMe page going and has the funds to return my $400.00, but she is unwilling to do so.
I am truly sorry that this student has experienced a loss due to the permanent closure of my beloved business that was a sanctuary for many for well over 18 years. I did everything possible to try and save this business during these months of covid, but as many small businesses are experiencing, it's impossible. We sent out a few formal emails as well as posted on Facebook multiple times that Samadhi was closing due to mandatory closure in the wake of covid. After working tirelessly and without any income to speak of for over three months, we were forced to close. This closure, just like the closure of the many other small businesses hurts all of us.
The gofundme that she speaks of was organized by a community member to help provide basic means for my daughter and I now that I have lost all source of income and have an unimaginable mountain of debt facing me with no way to deal with it. It is clear that this student does not understand the reality of what it means for a small business owner to have to close under these conditions. It is disastrous, dire and devastating.
I pray we all find our way through this and that people choose kindness and caring. It's going to take all of us coming together to maneuver this storm successfully.

I am rejecting this response because: I paid for a service that I did not receive. I am not local to the Denver area and have never been to this studio so I am not aware of the their facebook posts. When you run a business, it is your responsibility to contact your customers if you are closing down. I reached out to the studio at the end of April asking about a reschedule of the class. They responded with the new date of 6/20. Seeing as I had just reached out, you would think it wouldn't be too hard to let me know of the closure. I am well aware of the hard times people are facing during COVID-19. I live in a small mountain town and am a fitness instructor so please understand that $400 is an incredible amount of money to me. Just because this studio is facing hard times (AS WE ALL ARE) does not mean they can just have my $400. I didn't donate my money to this studio - I paid for a service that I never received. We are not talking about $50 - this is $400. I need that money to pay my rent.

Samadhi yoga has withheld the payment from the students in their 200 hour teacher training program and did not complete the training for the students. Samadhi stopped the teacher training in early March and provided no information on when it would be completed. Samadhi refused to provide a refund of my payment for the teacher training program when I emailed them numerous times. The payment they are withholding is $2,887.00. Samadhi provided no information on when they would finish my training program and continued to tell me they were figuring it out. Samadhi yoga then closed their business and did not inform or warn me they would be closing and therefore ending the teacher training. They closed without any warning and did not provide resolution for completing the training or getting a refund. Samadhi told us they filed for bankruptcy but as of last week there was no public filing.
