Dear Ms***,
On Tuesday, October 14th at 6:pm *** *contacted our office via email through our website, www.sanmarcosdental.comShe wanted to know if she was a candidate for laser gum surgery and the costI called *** the next day but was not able to speak with herI left a message stating that Dr*** did do laser gum surgery, to please call our office & that I'd be happy to schedule an appointment for her
When the patient called back she asked me if Dr*** did laser gum surgery & I said yes, he doesShe then asked what the fee would be & I asked her if she had recently emailed a request to our office in regard to this treatmentShe said she hadI told her that there were different types gum surgery procedures & that she would have to see Dr*** for an evaluation in order to determine the proper course of treatment in order to determine what the fee would beI told her the fee for the evaluation would be $She then made a remark about us charging for a consultation and she would think it would be freeI told her that we do charge for exams/evaluationsShe did not schedule an appointment during this phone call
*** later called back on November & scheduled an appointment for November 12th for Dr*** to evaluate her*** said that her orthodontist told her she needed to have laser gum surgery and referred her to another dentist within his group but that they could never get her in & she had been unhappy with themI asked if she could have a referral sent to our office she stated that they would not give her one because he was not the dentist they referred her to but she chose to come to Dr*** instead
When the patient came in for her evaluation she arrived minutes late for her appointmentDr*** had made his recommendations in regards to her laser gum surgeryDr*** also recommended that she have her teeth cleaned at least week prior to her treatment to improve the health of her gum tissueThe patient also stated that her other dentist wanted to reshape her front two teeth & Dr*** said he felt it would be best to add bonded composite resin to those teeth rather than remove more of the toothWhen Dr*** was answering her questions his assistant accidentally interrupted and Dr*** motioned to her to let him speak so that he could answer all of her questions and finish with this patient since his next patient was waiting due to *** arriving minutes late
After Dr*** had finished and the patient was brought to my desk I told her todays visit was $She said "Are you kidding me? There's a charge for today?" She then stated that we have free exams advertised on our websiteI explained that do offer free Invisalign consultations and asked if maybe she had misread the offer on our website but that was not what she was seen for todayI told her we have never offered free exams on our website other than for InvisalignI asked if maybe she had our website mixed up with another officeShe said that she didn't look at going to any other offices & insisted that it was our websiteThen she said it wasn't our office website but that we had an advertisement on another website for free consultationsAgain I explained, our office does not advertise on other websitesWe may have listing as a provider of services for things like Invisalign but we do not advertise on other websites on the internetShe paid the fee for that day and then we discussed the treatment Dr*** recommendedShe then asked me if the price I gave her for the gum surgery was a firm price and then said she only had $to complete her gum treatment and finish with her orthodontistI told her that the fee I gave her was the fee she would need to pay to get the treatment doneShe then said she didn't have enough money to do the treatment if I was going to make her pay the full fee & asked if we could just do it for the $that she hasI offered information on payment plans that we have available & explained her options with the paymentAfter this she quickly returned to the subject of the fee for the exam that dayShe told me she wanted her money refundedI told her if she can forward the link of the website she was referring to or print the page & bring it to me then I would gladly refund her moneyI explained that if there is anything being posted online with a free exam from our office then it is being done without our knowledge or consent & that we would like it corrected as well*** quickly told me that she wanted me to know that both of her parents work for the Revdex.com & that what we were doing was bad businessI again told her to send me the website that has the free exam posted & I would refund her moneyThen she said we told her on the phone that her exam would be freeI reminded her of her contacts with our office & that each time they had been with meThen she said no, she had called before she emailed us & that's when she was told it was free but when I asked who she spoke with she did not know
Dr*** did not recommend any unnecessary proceduresHe gave his professional opinion on services in which the patient inquired about having done & sought out his adviceHer Orthodontist had recommended the laser gum surgery as well and had referred her to another dentist for the treatmentHis recommendations were to have a cleaning prior to the treatmentWe did not require that she do her cleaning at our office nor did she schedule the cleaning with our officeShe said she was going to have it done at her other dentistNor did Dr*** require that she have the bonding added to her front teethThis was a cosmetic issue that the patient inquired about during her visit Dr*** gave recommendation based on his experience & extensive training and was only given to her when she asked for it
In the statement that the patient wrote to you she stated that we give misleading information & not truthful when questions are askedAll of the patient's questions were answered honestlyShe was also given a written treatment plan that stated all procedures and cost that were discussed*** never gave me the website information I requested in order to give her a refundInstead she filed this complaint with your office within hours of leaving.I have enclosed a copy of our webpage that lists all special offers we have & a copy of ***'s initial email when she contacted our officePlease let me know if you need any further information
