This letter is in response to the complaint filed with your agency by [redacted] against my business, Sandy River Cash Fuel. I have been in business in the Strong area approx 34 years, owning and operating a general store for 19 years and our fuel business for 15 years. This is the first time, that...

I recall having to respond to a complaint such as this. The problem is that [redacted]'s property is located just over the crest of the hill on a busy state road with 50 MPH speed limit. There is reduced speed limit of 40 mph going passed his driveway because of a sharp bend in the road near his driveway. However, the traffic rarely reduces speed in this area. The driveway to his camp is very steep off this road, thus making it a very dangerous situation to attempt entry with a commercial truck ( loaded with fuel). When there are snow banks and snow covered ground it makes the situation much more dangerous. These dangerous conditions are the reason his previous oil company refused to deliver to him after 6 years. For this reason, I am giving up deliveries to that location during the snow season. I am literally playing Russian Roulette with my life and whoever happens to drive along while I am crossways in the road attempting to back into the driveway.Previously I have had several bad experiences while delivering to this location in the winter. If the driveway could be expanded to create a truck turnaround, so I could drive in and turn around and eliminate having to block the roadway, the delivery would then be doable. If the camp owner [redacted], replaced the half size tank (120 gallon capacity) with standard size tank, we could fill it when the conditions are right and it would take him through the winter with out needing any deliveries during poor weather conditions. Since we have been delivering to [redacted]'s camp it has never exceeded more than 200 gallons for an entire season. I did suggest these options to him, but he was not willing to try to make the delivery safer. In conclusionIwould like to point out a few facts which need clarification from Mr. [redacted]'s complaint. In the past Mr. [redacted] has always used this location as a camp not as his primary residence as he claimed in is complaint. you will note that his mailing address is [redacted] some 40 to 50 miles from the location. He portrays himself as a helpless elderly person. He is 61 years old-2 years younger than myself. Last year [redacted] called our office and stated that he was switching his heat source to propane and wouldn't need any further deliveries. We were relieved and that is the reason we did not discuss the driveway problem with him earlier than now. We have not delivered to that location for 17 months prior to the most recent delivery. Sandy River Cash Fuel does not "arbitrarily let children freeze"! If you check our true record you will find we have in fact helped people in desperate situations. My wife has gone above and beyond, making phone calls for people in emergency situations to enable them to get a delivery and help them from freezing and help them get through the winter. I was no more rude with Mr. [redacted] on the phone then he was with me, when I was trying to explain the situation. It's just that I was not willing to say what he wanted to hear.
