This is in response to your letter regarding a complaint filed with your office, ID #***. This man first contacted us by phone stating that he needed the bottom seat of his bucket seats in his car reupholstered and wanted to know how much it would cost I explained that we do
not normally quote a price over the phone and without first looking at the project in person, but that I could give him an estimated cost. After confirming that he only needed the bottom of the seat and not the entire bucket seat reupholstered, I gave him an estimate of $per seat plus material He said that though he thought it was high, that it was cheaper than anyone else in town and that he would get back with me. Months passed before he called again He asked if it would be cheaper if he provided his own material I said definitely and that he would only have to pay for labor in that case He said he had found some pre-sewn seat covers on the internet and asked if we could install them I said that we could but stated that many pre-sewn covers purchased on the internet do not always fit correctly And, that if we had to alter the pre-sewn covers, that there would be an additional labor cost He said okay and that he would bring in the seats on July 5th. He brought in the pre-sewn seat covers and left his car so that we could remove the seats and put on the pre-sewn covers that he purchased on the internet Bur he brought pre-sewn covers for BOTH seat bottoms and BOTH seat backs which was not the original agreement of just the seat bottoms - $for each seat bottom only Notified him that we could not do both the seat bottoms and both the seat backs for the $each and if he wanted us to do the entire bucket seat (bottoms and back) that the cost would be $each full bucket seat He tried to say that he thought that when I said seat back that I was referring to the back seat area But I said that that is not possible since his 2-seater coupe does not have a back seat area He agreed that we do the work and left his car and pre-sewn covers When we disassembled the driver's seat, we discovered that the metal seat frame was broken A metal frame can and often does break with wear and tear especially on older vehicles such as his We also discovered that the pre-sewn covers he brought were not for his car and that it would not be possible to alter them to fit his car So we called to let him know all of this. In our conversation regarding the broken metal seat frame and the incorrect pre-sewn seat covers, he admitted that he knew that the covers were for a newer model but that he bought them anyway because he liked them He also asked if we could repair the broken metal seat frame I said that we could by taking it to a welder for an additional cost He never mentioned that he thought we had broken the metal frame like he is accusing us now And he could not possibly know that it was not already broken without disassembling the seat - (removing covers and padding, etc.) which is how we found out that it was broken The seats must be removed as they cannot be reupholstered while still in the car He then told us to stop what we were doing and that he was coming to get his car I informed him that there would still be a labor cost for taking the seats out of the car, disassembling the seat, then reassembling the seat and then putting the seats back in the car This process took or hours and our Labor Shop Rate is $per hour. We then decided to wait until he arrived so that we could show him his broken seat frame should he decide to fix it in the future After reassembly he asked how much he owed I told him that even though we spent about or hours on his job, that I was only going to charge him for hours But in the end, I was trying to be nice and I decided that he had enough bad luck with the wrong seat covers and the broken frame and so I only charged him $even I gave this money to my worker because he expected to be paid for the time he spent on these seats. My worker was present throughout this entire ordeal and is witness to the fact that this man is lying when he says that I threatened him and that I threatened to call the police I have been in business at this location over years and have always provided quality service and quality craftsmanship Regards, *** ***, OwnerBlanchard's Upholstery*** ** *** ***Austin, TX 78734***
