Review: A technician came to fix a leak in my kitchen that I suspected was coming from the upstairs bathroom. The technician identified the leak coming from the toilet and gave a quote for the repair of this and also snaking my sink in the laundry room. The total quote came in over $1000. I asked how long this would take and the techician said it would be about 3 hours. I asked how he could justify charging apprx. $325. an hour. The snaking he said cost around $300. of the quote. He called the office and after discussion the price was reduced to $600. eliminating the snaking from the project. Given that it was a Friday and water was leaking, I submitted and signed the paper consenting knowing that the price could be higher depending on what they would find. I still maintained that this was out of control pricing. When discussing this with the office, they told me that at their association , the prices were determined and put into a manual for pricing. I told them this was illegal and was price fixing which is an antitrust violation! The technician proceeded to remove the toilet and found that it needed a fillvalve to raise the height of the toilet since the toilet wasn't leveled properly. Also replacement of mastertoilet flange and supply line. Now the price has climbed to a total of 1177. The work was completed in less than three hours including the lengthy paperwork that was done. Knowing that the toilet in the second upstairs bathroom was constructed the same way during a renovation, I realized that I would have to probably have to exam that one as well before a leak would occur. After the technician has left, I called a reputable plumber from the past and read him the list of what was done fromt he invoice. He had just completed an identical job yesterday and the charge was under $300. ! He asked who did the work for me and was not surprised at the overcharge. He also told me the parts that were used were very inexpensive parts. Total all under 50. I find this pricing offensive and out of line

I feel the price should be adjusted to fit the job completed. I also would like to lodge a complaint and feel that if the plumber's association is indeed violating the antitrust laws that an investigation should be done.
