Sansum Eye Clinic

Review: On 2/18/14, I scheduled and received my annual eye exam with Sansum Ophthalmology as I had for the past 8 or so years. Because my Anthem health insurance plan recently dropped vision care, I was told the clinic would do a cash price. I asked to see the rates and the office manager did not have those for a standard eye exam. So I asked for an estimate and was told the $150 range if there were no complications with the exam. I was asked to pay an office standard deposit of $275 which I agreed to and was told that I would receive a follow up invoice and refund for the balance.My eye exam went well, there were no complications or extra procedures, and I was out within a half hour. I never received an invoice or refund, so I called Sansum's patient accounts and the representative looked up my file and explained that I was not sent an invoice because the "exact amount came to $275".. to the exact dollar and cents. How convenient.This billing practice can best be described as a scam. A patient requests the rates for STANDARD procedures, is denied by the staff any knowledge of the rates, pays a considerable deposit... and then miraculously, their deposit just happens to cover the "total amount of services" for a unique visit. No.The market rate for a standard eye exam is NOT $275 cash.Desired Settlement: As settlement, I am requesting a refund to reflect the estimate (and market value) that was communicated to me in the office on 2/18... to equal $125.I am also requesting an adjusted copy of my invoice for my tax records AND a copy of Sansum's rate sheet for standard eye care services.My mailing address is: [redacted]Thank you.
