Danny at American Painters

I'm going to be perfectly honest about my experience with you. you assured me that you could take care of everything I needed. Although your bid came in higher than others, I felt comfortable hiring you to do the work. Sad to say in hindsight, that was a mistake. I'm not making general comments about your work, just my impression of the work that was done for me.

Painting Interior - poor. The front door and rails look good, but if I knew you were going to charge me $175 per coat for two coats, I would have never agreed to give you the work. The shock on my face when you told me the price must have been noticeable. That wasn't taking care of me, that was taking advantage of me. How can you charge Noticeable paint drips on the front stairs. The bedroom you painted looks like it was done in a hurry. I had to ask you to put another coat on the trim, even though you should have seen it needed it for yourself. The paint on the ceiling was also an avoidable mistake, and I didn't even tell you about the paint drips on the carpet I had to clean up.

Painting Exterior - poor. There were patched spots above the garage that should have been sanded down but instead were just painted over. I had to remind you that you had quoted me to address all of the exterior paint needs - only after reminding you more than once did it get done.

Power Washing - Good job for the most part, but I don't think you ever did the driveway. Even if you did, I will need to go over it again this weekend to get it right.

Gutter cleaning - I suspect that was not done.

Ceiling Patching - this was done at no charge, but I now have two very distinct patch jobs showing on the ceiling. That is not your fault, as we did not have the ability to match the paint to cover up the patches. However, this morning I found wet patching material running down the bedroom wall and a large glob of patching material hardened on the rug I have no idea I am going to get out.

Attention to detail - poor. I had to show you where the siding caulk was not finished. I had to constantly remind you what needed to be done. I hired you to take the stress off and ended up multiplying it.

We needed a threshold replaced between this bedroom and the hall...you said no problem. Your fix...a piece of what looks like plywood painted white and glued to the threshold. Who does that? Another job we have to fix after you.

Communication/Organization - poor. The jobs you were given should have taken two days, instead they took two weeks to complete. You never mentioned at the beginning that I would only have you for short periods of time every day, instead of staying until the jobs were done. I've also never seen a contractor who starts from scratch for every task they have been given, instead of compiling a list of materials at the beginning. When you were here you would disappear without a trace, leaving me to wonder what had been done, or still needed to be done. When you saw the stress your behavior was causing you did little to re-mediate it.

Professionalism - poor. You never asked to cleanup in the bathroom, and even more disturbing, left a huge mess of hardened caulk and who knows what for me to clean up. You asked for a check when you were obviously not done. You never seemed to know what was agreed upon, what was left, or when it would be finished. It seems you have now lost a metal cover for the outside molding that I will be unable to replace.

It seems like you may have overextended yourself, because it seems like even when you were here, you were hurrying because you had to get someone else. I sure did not feel like a priority, more like a distraction from what you really wanted to be doing, whatever that was. I had to come to the realization this was going to be a poor experience As I was writing your check I had a sick feeling in my stomach, but I had had enough and really wanted it to be over.

Your communications insist that you want to do everything in your power to satisfy your clients. As of this writing, I am an extremely unhappy customer, and will likely make that known via a poor review on the Home Advisor web site that recommended you.
