Santa Cruz Tanning Reviews (17)

Company states that every hour we say we are open we are open. November through December we are closed on Sundays which is posted. I have no problem lowering the membership fee to $10 and refunding $10 x 3 for the months that we were...

closed on Sundays since she was not able to attend.

We will keep the membership fee at $10 to keep the client.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

[redacted] verbally attacked using profanities and asserted that even after I canceled my membership with Tan Line (or Santa Cruz Tanning Co.) that he would continue charging me credit card.

I paid for a 15 month contract in November, 2013. The business is closed. The phone service has been disconnected. I am due a refund of $180.00.Product_Or_Service: Tanning PackageAccount_Number: Transaction NumberDesired SettlementRefund of Unused portion of contract due to company going out of business without notice. False sign has been in the window for 2 months. The courtesy of a client notification was not provided.

In July 2013, I signed up for a memebership at Santa Cruz Tanning. On that day, they sold me access to everything for a $50.00 fee for the first month. I was told the charge would then be $10.00 a month after that. Approximately 2 weeks later I cancelled my membership because I was unhappy with their facility and did not like their tanning beds. I called Santa Cruz tanning and was told to come in to cancel so I could present my ID. I went in that same day and was told that I was not even in the system and the lady I spoke with said everything was set and that I did not need to sign anything and the membership would be cancelled. My sister had a memebership there also and when she cancelled they did not have her sign anything. I also know a couple of other friends that did not sign to cancel but also did not continue to have money deducted. At this point, they have deducted a total of $286.00 after I had cancelledProduct_Or_Service: Tanning Salon/Nails/HairDesired Settlement$286.00 refund (not store credit)

After purchasing a monthly tanning package we cancelled they contiued to bill our bank and credit card for 7 months and had to be blocked to stop it.In April of 2013 my husband and I purchased a monthly tanning package from Santa Cruz Tanning Co, located in Carson City on Fairview Dr. They insisted that we give them a Credit Card to be charged monthly. I gave them a Credit Card. The next month I had the charges switched to my Debit Account.By May we realized that their beds were weak and we told them in person that we wanted to cancel our account. They said fine and they went to the computer made a few entries and said that was it. This was June and I assumed I would not see any further charges. The next month August 2013, they charged my account again. My husband went to the store and he was told that we needed to complete a cancellation form, which he did. They did not give us a copy and there was no place to copy it at the store. I then contacted my bank and explained what was going on. They started an investigation and put a block on my account. They later said because I couldn't prove that I cancelled the account that they couldn't recoup the charges for August. I assumed that was the end of it.This month I realized that in September 2013, they started charging my Credit Card that I had initially given them. I unfortunately didn't check my statements until this month. When my husband went to the store yesterday 02/18/2014 he was told "We do not have any record of you or your wife in the system" "You will have to call the corporate office".My credit card statement clearly reads "SantaCruzTanningCo" with the local telephone number listed right on the statement [redacted]I contacted the corporate office today. The person that answered the telephone number that I was given ([redacted]) answered "Hello". When I asked her "is this Santa Cruz Tanning Co?" she said, "oh yea, right" "how can I direct your call". It didn't seem like a business at all. She asked why I was calling and said someone would call me back. I don't think they will be calling.I have since contacted my credit card company and they are refunding my account 3 months of the charges but it's up to me to recoup the additional months.Desired SettlementI feel I was over charged $53.90 a month for 6 months. However, I believe my Credit Card Company will be seeking reimbursement for 3 months and they (the credit card company) will credit my credit card account for that amount. That leaves 3 months at $53.90 $161.70.Business Response As with all our members, we have month to month agreements and cancellation is very easy. We do not do any "verbal cancellations". This member was explained that all she needed to do was some in and sign a cancellation form or send us a certified letter and we would take care of it. When we asked the member for proof of her cancellation she was unable to provide this. Our policy is clearly stated and explained to all of our members. As far as the tanning beds, we have very high end beds, in fact the best in town. Our bulbs are maintained and changed according to the recommendation of the manufacturers. We have not had any members unhappy with our beds or tanning results, so it unfortunate that this member has tried to slander us. Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)We were never told to send a certified letter to cancel the account. That is a lie! This is the first time I have heard that excuse.I will send one tomorrow after visiting the salon and filling out a second form! My husband already filled out a form and when he asked for a copy they wouldn't give him one. This is a case of he said she said. I will copy the form tomorrow with my cell phone as suggested by a friend. This is not the first complaint of the same nature against this business. You can check on line and see them and I believe this is the third complaint to you for the same thing.Business Response I am sorry that this member did not like the answer I provided. I do have a signed agreement for this person for a month to month membership and this member did use the facility during the entire time of the membership. As I stated before, all a member needs to do to cancel is come in and sign a cancellation form or send us a certified letter. Without this, I have no proof that a membership is cancelled. I did ask this member to provide one of these and she did not. As a courtesy, we did stop this membership even without the member providing any proof that she cancelled.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)That is a blatant lie. I never stepped foot in the salon after May of 2013. We filled out said form back in June 2013. I have since filled out another form and sent a letter of cancellation. If what they said is true then why did I have to block their charges at US Bank to stop them the first time. Doesn't common sence say that I would have tried to cancel first? The only true statement they made was yes I stupidly signed the contract. I am also pursuing this matter through the media (TV and Newspaper). I am gathering several other customers with the same complaints. If you dont believe me just check out reviews on line from other members They are crooks they know you won't read the contract and they "legally" can get away with it because it is your word against theirs!Consumer Response Please review the last statement by the business. They said that they would cancel the account, even though we have not filed the proper forms. I filed the forms for a second time and sent the certified letter per their request. My credit card company placed a block on my account to avoid further charges. But again they have charged my account. I asked the CC company how they can avoid the block and they said that, Santa Cruz Tanning Tanning changed the number on their account so they could bypass the block. My credit card company has again reversed my charges but you have to see now how unscrupulous this company is!!!Business Response I am sorry that this member did not like the answer I provided. The member was not able to show is either of these as proof of canceling. We have a very easy cancellation policy. I it stated very clearly on the membership. All you have to do is come into the shop and sign a cancellation form and pay your final months dues or send us a certified letter requesting to cancel. This member did use the facility. Unfortunately, this member did not do either and we, as a courtesy, ended her membership.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)This again is a lie! I have copies of the Certified Letter that was mailed and the signed certified recipet from the post office. I have hand delived a cancellation letter and I have signed 3 cancellation forms, which they do not give you copies of. I have visited the shop on numorous occasions. There is never a manager just hair stylest. When I called on 05/12/14, I was informed that both managers were fired. They gave me the telephone number for the corporate offices. The Corporate Office only takes a message and never calls you back.In the companies previous response to the Revdex.com (see your case file) the company stated they would "as a courtesy, end my membership". However, they continue to charge my account every month. Including the latest charge on 4/20/2014 This month they added an unknown fee of $19.00 plus the usual $53.90.I would attach copies of the statement and the certified letter but I do not see an option for attachments.

I WENT TO THIS BUSINESS FOR ONE MONTH OF TANNING, AND FOUND OUT MONTHS LATER THAT I WAS CHARGED 9 MONTHS OF TANNING I DIDN'T USE. I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR AUTO PAYMENT EITHER BECAUSE I KNEW THAT I WAS HAVING MAJOR SURGERY AND WOULDN'T BE PHYSICALLY ABLE TO GET IN/OUT OF A TANNING BED. WHEN THEY CHANGED THEIR BILLING TO THE NAME I RECOGNIZED I CALLED THEM AND SPOKE TO THE MANAGER AT THE TIME AND HE'D ASSURED ME TO LOOK INTO IT AND GET BACK TO ME ...NEVER HAPPENED. I CALLED THEIR REGIONAL OFFICE THEY TOOK A MESSAGE SAID THEY CALL ME BACK ...NEVER DID. I HAVE CALLED NO LESS THEN 6 TIMES SPEAKING TO DIFFERENT EMPLOYEES AND MANAGERS. I WAS CHARGED $53.90 FOR 9 MONTHS!! MY CREDIT CARD COULD ONLY REFUND THREE MONTHS WORTH OF CHARGES, SO THEY STILL OWE FOR 6 MONTHS OF CHARGES AT $53.90. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP IN THIS MATTER, I BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHERS AS WELL, THE LADY WHO ANSWERED THE PHONE TOLD THE MANAGER IT'S ANOTHER PERSON SAYING THEY NEEDED A REFUND. I CERTAINLY CAN'T AFFORD THIS. AND HAD TO CHANGE MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER BECAUSE OF THIS MATTER.SINCERELY, [redacted]Product_Or_Service: tanningDesired SettlementRETURN OF 6 MONTHS OF CHARGES OF $53.90 FOR A TOTAL OF $323.40

Purchased "unlimited use" 1-month membership and the establishment was closed every time I attempted to use it within business hours. I purchased a one month, unlimited use tanning membership from this salon based on their business hours posted on their door of 9am-7pm. After purchasing my membership, I attempted to use my membership on multiple occasions, on several days, and sometimes several times in the same day, only to find that the establishment was closed during the hours they had posted as business hours. Upon inquiring about their hours with their "manager," I was told it was due to winter hours and that beginning Feb. 1st, the hours posted would be their business hours, through summer. From Feb. 1st to Feb 6th, I attempted to use my membership again, during their posted business hours and they were always closed. When I again contacted the business, they said the manager was unavailable, and I never got a call back. When I called again, I informed the manager that, multiple times, I had attempted to use my membership between the hours of 9am and 10am and 6pm and 7pm, all of which they were not open, even though he had previously informed they would, in fact, be open during those times only one week earlier. He then, instead of being apologetic and asking what could be done to correct the problem, became snarky and rude, almost sarcastic and would only reply to my questions and statements with a giggled "OK." It couldn't have been more clear that he had no intention of now, nor ever, making my experience with their company a satisfactory one. Now, I have paid for an "unlimited use, one month" membership that can't be used because management apparently condones, and is part of, their closing early and opening late. Had I known this was the way they operated their business, I never would have purchased services from their establishment. Desired SettlementAll money for said "one month" membership purchased in January, 2014 to be promptly returned for lack of services rendered. This company gained my business because their hours were applicable to my schedule and needs. I am unable to use said membership because the business is not open during their posted hours. In several attempts to rectify the complaint by contacting management, my concerns and questions have been met with sarcasm and have been, frankly, insulting. This is not the service I paid for, and had I known this was the level of service that would be provided, I would not have purchased their services.

I'm extremely disappointed in the customer service at Santa Cruz Tanning's corporate office. I canceled my membership within the first month of enrolling at the [redacted], [redacted] location and I am still being charged. I have called the corporate office on seven different occasions and have left several messages and no one has returned my phone call.Desired SettlementI was charged 55.00$ after I had already canceled my membership. Final Consumer Response The owner [redacted] finally contacted me back and said she has reversed the charge. It should show up in my bank account soon.

I cancelled my membership in August 2014 with the Santa Cruz Tanning Company and they are still charging my credit card as of November 2014. I cancelled my membership with Santa Cruz Tanning Company located in [redacted] in August 2014. I had to physically go over and sign my name on a cancellation sheet in order for them to process it. I didn't think anything of it afterward until my husband just noticed charges on our credit card from them last month (Novemer 2014). We called our cc company who said they showed charges on 9/23 for $20, 10/23 for $20 and $19 and 11/7 for $20. I called the company on 12/1/14 and they said that they are no longer SC Tanning anymore and it is now the previous company ([redacted]) that owned the salon before SC Tanning. They gave me the phone number [redacted] of [redacted] in [redacted] and told me I need to talk to the owner,[redacted] who owned Santa Cruz Tanning Co. I called and left a message with an employee and told him my situation. He said he would pass on my information and I still have not received a call. It looks to me like this guy is running a BIG scam. I have seen numerous reviews and complaints online about this company and other people are being charged after they've cancelled. The Santa Cruz Tanning Co. is no longer in business and now this guy is running under a different name. I have since cancelled my credit card. Desired SettlementI am seeking a refund on all the charges that were made after I cancelled membership. This is a total of $79.00.

I came to Santa Cruz Tanning in Feb of 2013 I explained to the gentleman helping me that I did NOT want to do a Monthly Membership with them and that I just wanted to tan a few times before My trip to Hawaii He told me that was not a problem and I could just pay for 1 month and that would be it. Around the end of November I noticed a charge from them on the 22th of the month and decided to check back threw the past months and I Had been charged every Month scene my visit in Feb Which was not authorized I have contacted the Company and Talked to [redacted] and he told me to call the corporate office So I contacted them and they told me they would have the manager call me back. I got no return call so I called again and asked to talk to a manager, but was again told they would let them know to call me and I requested a copy of my paperwork that they had on me saying that I ok'ed a monthly charge, but still got nothing from them. They have done nothing but give me the run around I told them to stop charging my acct on the First call I made to [redacted], but they still charged my account again in Dec. so I called my Bank and had my debit card Canceled. Charges on my account appear as Santa Cruz Tanning Carson City and CBSeft.com #[redacted] For 75.90 Each Month around the 22th of each month.Product_Or_Service: TanningAccount_Number: [redacted]Desired SettlementI would like a full refund of $759.00Business Response We have a signed membership agreeing to a monthly charge from this member. We do not force anyone to sign up for memberships. Our memberships allow a person to lock in lower prices than non members. We have a very easy cancellation policy. I it stated very clearly on the membership. All you have to do is come into the shop and sign a cancellation form and pay your final months dues or send us a certified letter requesting to cancel. We requested a copy of either the cancellation form that was submitted or a copy of the certified letter sent but the member was not able to give us these.Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I was never even contacted back by anyone from your company! So you saying that you have asked me for any info is a lie!!I was told on the day I came in by [redacted] that I would not be set up on a Monthly Program because I only needed to come in for 3 Weeks. The only thing I signed was for running my Debit Card. And a Paper that he said for Liability Purposes for me using the Beds. I would like to see a copy of the agreement that you say I signed! This Company's customer service sucks! And I will never recommend ANYONE to use your services!!

I called three months ago to find out if I could cancel my tanning membership over the phone or if I needed to come in. The gentleman on the phone asked me I was close by & I said that I live & work in Dayton, but it's not too far. He said "don't worry about it then, what's your name?" I spelled it out for him & he said "if I have any problems with the cancelation, I will call you." Total lie. He did nothing. Now, three months later, I have been charged each month!! On 03/21, 04/21 and 05/23. I am beyond livid. I have called over and over and the only phone number listed anywhere just rings non stop & has no message machine. There is no email that I can find to contact them either & with my job, by the time I get off at night, it is hours passed when they close. I am at my wits end & don't know what else I can possibly do so I resorted to this. There are hours listed on the internet that say they close at 9pm Fridays and also some that say 7. Either way- I call around 5:30/6:00 and no one answers. They also claim they have "no contract, cancel whenever" and that is obviously far from the truth. I want my $60 back & to never deal with this place again.Product_Or_Service: Tanning MembershipDesired SettlementI want my $57 back and confirmation via email or mail that it has ACTUALLY been cancelled since no one seems to answer the phone there!

Review: When I originally signed up (June 2013) they assured me they would be open on the weekends, since that is the only time I would be able to go. They charge $25.00 a month for unlimited tanning that is automatically deducted from my bank account. On at least fifteen separate occasions I have gone during normal posted business hours and they where closed. I have called and complained and was told they would reduce my fee to $10.00 a month, if I didn't cancel my membership. To date they have not reduced my fee or are always open during their regular posted business hours. I am not the only person this is happening to, I have gone and other people are waiting outside, trying to call to find out why they are not open. I have contacted their headquarters and was told the owner would return my call in 24 hours, that did not happen either...Desired Settlement: I would like a refund for the monthly fees, due to the contract of unlimited monthly tanning not being honored.

Response:

Company states that every hour we say we are open we are open. November through December we are closed on Sundays which is posted. I have no problem lowering the membership fee to $10 and refunding $10 x 3 for the months that we were closed on Sundays since she was not able to attend.

Review: Santa Cruz tan has a reputation for ditching customers. they do not provide things in writing and the employees never have a proper legal answer. The phone # for this business is not accepting calls . They have a partner in Nevada and hired a new person to take calls. for 27 minutes I was put on hold while she asked every question I had for them live. I got no final answer. I got no resolution.Desired Settlement: I would like compensation for products falsely advertised. They were not in stock and blamed the mail. I was told to come back 2 hours later and they did not have a resolution. I would also like a refund. I want to see the company do well and educate employees on how to properly manage and resolute conflict. They need to get their phone working. The time and gas spent on this company today is also included in compensation. Frustration and mental health disparities.

[redacted] verbally attacked using profanities and asserted that even after I canceled my membership with Tan Line (or Santa Cruz Tanning Co.) that he would continue charging me credit card.

Review: the salon has charged my wife and I since our cancelation. we canceled on July 24, 2013 and have been charged 8/12 and 8/20.

my wife and I purchased different tanning memberships on June 20th for $60/month and, and June 24th for $20/month. we both canceled our accounts on July 24th. and have since been charged on 8/12 for $20 and 8/20 for another $60. these are both charged on separate credit cards. the employees working there said they were out of cancelation contracts so they wrote it on a blank piece of paper. I am just wanting to not be charged for something we aren't using and they refuse to cancel our memberships or refund us for our over charges.Desired Settlement: I have been over charged $80 for canceled services not being used. I want a refund and for the membership to actually end.

Review: Santa Cruz Suntanning robs customers through monthly billing.

On December 17th, SCS charged my VISA $50.00 after I canceled on November 12th on account [redacted]. After three weeks of attempting to remedy the situation by calling their corporate office in Carson City and never receiving a call, I have decided to voice my frustration on the internet and to the Revdex.com. Their manager, [redacted], is notably absent and silent on returning my phone calls, however I am not alone in this matter. Unfortunately on yelp, yellow pages and Revdex.com reviews, former customers seem to have the same problem regarding unauthorized payments. To top that, the employees at the front counter agree with me that this business has issues! They do not repair their equipment and the open signs' lights are dark in the evening. It is a ship run amok. Bad referrals are the bane of a bad business and my voice joins this chorus.Desired Settlement: $50.00 through any monetary instrument at this point.
