January 21,
In response to the complaint ID number *** issued by
the Revdex.com on January 19, 2015, I recall the events that took place. After the customer visited my establishment one
of my employees let me know that this customer only wanted to speak with me
When I spoke to her I discovered that she was the *** teacher of my cousin’s
daughter
When she came into the store she was pleasant and we got
along very well from the start. I showed
her rings all around the store and there were two or three rings that she loved
She decided on purchasing our Cirrus
ring because the price point accommodated her budget. I offered her a $discount as an
accommodationWe spoke for over two hours and completed our transaction. She left the store a very happy and satisfied
customer and I was under the impression that I made a new friend I must admit the long visit wore me out as I
was on the mend from a cold and planned on going home to get some needed rest
She returned to the store a few minutes later and said that
she wanted her money back because the ring she bought stated on the receipt it
was18K and she had noticed it had a 14K stamp on itI was as surprised as she
was to notice the stamp In order to resolve the situation, I went down into my shop
and got my gold testing kit to prove to her that the ring was indeed 18K gold
and that my craftsman had accidentally stamped an 18k ring with a 14k stamp. I also conducted this test in front of her. Performing the gold test on the ring she
purchased did not appease herShe was dead set against me re-stamping her
ring. She requested a refund and to make
her happy I agreed
At this point it was disturbing to have this person who I
had spent so much time with and had such an easy interaction with not believe
the test I did in front of her
She did trade in scrap jewelry towards her purchase and we
removed the diamonds from the jewelry and retuned them to her. I do not deny damaging jewelry that was sold
to me as scrapI purchased it from her as scrap metal. Trade in gold is sent out to a refineryAfter I gave her a refund she requested that I return her
scrap gold and restore her pieces. I let
her know that I would try to restore her pieces but it would take some time to
do so.
I was disappointed that the tone of our visit took such a
drastic turn. I then became unraveled
and will not deny using profanity. My words
were not meant to be verbally aggressive.
I want to clarify once again that the words I spoke was under my breath
were not directed at herI admit to making a comment regarding her divorce and
I should not have made that comment.I am remorseful for the way this situation played out. I apologize publicly and I am hopeful that
she will give me another chance to prove to her that the ring she purchased and
returned was an 18k gold ring accidentally stamped with a 14k gold stamp.I am a good jeweler and an ethical businessperson. I pride myself on my honesty and my sincere
business dealings with all of my customers.
I have been in business for over forty years and have never been accused
of being fraudulent or unreliable In
fact, this is the first time I have had a complaint lodged against me through
the Revdex.com. I feel that I rectified the
situation by giving this individual a refund and giving her back her scrap
metal and agreeing to restore her scrap jewelry at no charge
Sincerely,*** ***Owner of Santa Fe Goldworks

I am rejecting this response because: When I was looking for the ring I like, the owner of the store did show me almost identical 14K ring which I declined because I wanted a better quality item. While checking the ring in my car, I noticed right away that the ring did not have a price tag on it-that fact did triggered my suspicious. Thanks to my good eye sight, I was be able to detect that my ring was only 14k ring with price difference around of $300 and that was confirmed at the store when I came back with a ring and presented a fraudulent item to the owner. Also, the honest sale-person will not get agitated and start using profanities no matter what. He is saying that he apologized to me. Well, it is very hard to hear and accept an "apology" mixed with anger and profanities. It is practically the same as no apology at all.As for the chemicals that the owner used to "prove" that his ring has been "stamped wrong", the sleeve of my brand new coat that I purchased a day ago, accidentally or may be not, got wet with the chemicals and burned an ugly whitish looking spot.My jewelry that that I brought with me for a possible trade was not a scrap metal but a wearable gold pieces with small diamonds. After the owner accepted only gold he took the diamonds out with pliers and was very reluctant of putting my stones back saying that "it was damaged anyway" and did not offer to fix my pieces himself but rudely passed that matter to his sale-person without much care and consideration. I am not entirely sure when my jewelry will be fix and what would be the quality of the repair. Also, I have doubts about my diamonds as the owner actually "liked" one the stones. And the last, there is no such thing for a "reputable" jewelry store to have a ring in the inventory that does not have a correct stamp of gold-it is called fraud. As the owner himself mentioned to me, it is a popular model of his. I wonder how many buyers did not have a good eye sight and did not check their items?

January 23,
In reference to the rejection of my response submitted to
the Revdex.com, I would like to address the additional concerns that the individual
did not state in her first complaint
I did not make the claim that I tried to apologize to her
while she was in my store. The event
that took place in my store was frustrating for both the customer and me. The fact that I became agitated with the
situation and spoke unfavorably does not qualify me as being as being a
dishonest sales person.
As I stated in my prior response, I conducted the gold test
in front of the individual. I performed
the test in front of her so she could see with her own eyes that the ring she
purchased from me was actually an 18K gold ring that had accidentally been
stamped as 14k gold
When I conducted the gold test I used a few drops of
solution on the ring in question. I take
precautions when using a gold testing solution.
To my knowledge, her coat did not have any contact with the solution. I can provide video surveillance at the
request of the Revdex.com if the Revdex.com deems that it is needed to resolve the situation
regarding the individual's coat
We buy gold and often refer to the gold we buy as "scrap
jewelry." The term "scrap jewelry" is
not being used to devalue the jewelry that the individual traded in to us. As stated in my earlier response, all scrap jewelry
that is purchased by us is sent in to a refinery.
The individual states, "Also, I have my doubts about my diamonds as
the owner actually "liked" one of the stones."
The individual's diamonds will be put back into the jewelry that needs
to be repaired. I am not quite sure if
she is insinuating that I would take her diamond and replace it with a
different diamond without her consent and knowledge. In the event that she
is concerned about this, I want to state that my business does not practice
this unethical and dishonest behavior.
We are currently in possession of the individual's diamonds
because she requested that we repair her jewelry To address her concern about the quality of
repair on her jewelry, I have been repairing jewelry for over forty years and
my craftsmen have over years of experience between them. We take great pride in our work and always
ensure that our repair work is of the highest quality. In order to make a quality repair our workshop
may take some time to do so. The
individual's repaired jewelry will be available to pick up on 1/30/2015. As stated before, the individual will not be
charged for the repairs to her jewelry.Respectfully,[redacted]

I am rejecting this response because: Owner of the jewelry store contradicts himself. In his first response, dated January 21, he writes "I am remorseful for the way this situation played out. I apologize publicly(?) and I am hopeful that she will give me another chance to prove to her that the ring she purchased was an 18k gold ring accidentally stamped with 14k gold stamp" In his last response from the same individual I am reading-"I am not making the claim that I tried to apologize to her while she was in my store". So, did the owner "apologized publicly" or not? If he thinks he did - he certainly did not.I was insulted and humiliated in his store in front of his two employees and if he is truly remorseful, as he claimed he is, he should offer me a sincere apology in his store in front of his employees. And that is the outcome I selected as acceptable in my complain to Revdex.com. In order to produce the funds to buy a very expensive for me ring, I donated over 50 quarts of my blood to the local Plasma Center and made some sacrifices in my lifestyle. Never in my dreams I expected, what I can describe as, most humiliated shopping experience of my life!In regards of damage to my brand new coat I wish to add that the owner, just perhaps, should review his video surveillance footage to see how my sleeve got catch in the chemicals which should not be on the counter to begin with. As for now, I covered almost a white spot with black permanent marker and even the marker only gave me a brown looking spot without covering it completely. The repair on my jewelry appear have been done correctly but, I will check the authenticity of my diamonds.Above of all one fact remains, reputable jewelry business is not suppose to have a ring in their inventory where stamp and the price do not match. To offer a client to "change" a gold stamp right in front of her on the very same ring is unheard of. My next step of dealing with my current issue is to contact several publications and file a Civil Court lawsuit against the owner of the store.
