This customer originally brought their 2013 Fiesta in to our Service Department for a transmission shuddering concern. The vehicle was repaired under their factory warranty. A few days later the car had an issue of not starting at times. It was found there was a loose connection at the starter. The...

starter was removed as part of the warranty repair. The terminal was tightened and the battery was charged. The battery tested good and the car was returned to the customer. The customer was not charged for this repair. The customer returned again and stated that the car would not start. He was given an estimate to have the concern diagnosed. the concern could not be duplicated. The car started every time the Technician attempted to start it. The car was returned the customer and the customer was not charged for the work we performed. The customer returned one month later with the same concern. The customer was given an estimate to diagnose the concern and the customer was provided with a rental vehicle at no charge. A Technician confirmed the symptom and found that the battery was dead. The Technician attempted to charge the battery but the battery failed the testing that was performed. A new battery was needed. The Technician also found that the alternator had no output and was not charging the battery. The Technician recommended replacing the battery and the alternator. The customer also had a concern of the vehicle's transmission not shifting properly. This concern was due to the failure of the battery. The battery provides voltage to the transmission control module for shifting. The customer was given an estimate to repair the vehicle as this concern was not related to any previous repairs. The customer declined the the repair, paid the charge for the diagnostic work, which they had  authorized, but insisted we should be responsible for the repair.
