Saskatoon Import Auto Service (2014) Reviews (1)

Complaint[redacted]The vehicle needed the clutch replaced and was towed to Import Auto. I received a phone call from the owner who stated, the clutch kit he ordered was a 215mm but when the engine and transmission were removed, it was realized a 210mm clutch kit was needed. But they were going to install the 215mm clutch kit anyway and shim it to make it right. I was quoted 1700.00$ for the job. Other repairs to the vehicle were done with no issues (total bill 2369.69$). The payment was made in full and the vehicle was driven away, however, within a few kilometers, it was evident the vehicle was not operating properly as it would not go into gear consistently. The vehicle was driven off and on for one week and was taken back to Import Auto where the owner test drove it and told me that a 25.00$ bushing was needed. However, for the bushing to be replaced, the engine and transmission would have to be removed again for an additional cost of 120.00$ per hour x 6 hours. The vehicle was taken to [redacted] for a second opinion. When the serviceman at [redacted] looked under the vehicle, he knew immediately that the clutch cable was not releasing completely and was at its maximum adjustment. A second visit to Import Auto, 2 days later, where I was not well received and told that by putting in the 215mm clutch instead of the correct 210mm, I had been given a better part. An Import Auto serviceman was sent outside and did something under the vehicle and I drove away. The vehicle no longer grinds harshly when going into reverse but still does not go into gear as it should. A second repair shop has also confirmed that the clutch cable is at maximum adjustment and would need to have complete clutch job redone to correct the problem.Desired Settlement[redacted]I want the amount I was quoted for the clutch repair (1700.00$) back so that I can take my vehicle somewhere else to be fixed properly.Business Response When the customers vehicle was towed in to the shop it was evident the clutch was worn excessively and unable to engage an gears. Inspected the clutch and cable to find the cable stretched and frayed. Was pushed into the shop. Transmission and engine removed, pressure washed clean free from excessive amounts of oil and dirt. Separated and found the clutch to be destroyed and piled up. At this time found the end play on the engine to be outside of tolerances, and will have to be shimmed to correct the engine end play or further damage to the engine will occur. Found the flywheel to measure at 210 MM. Was not able to locate a 210 MM clutch assembly. Had a 215 MM Clutch ordered in and a Flywheel in stock. This 215 MM Clutch is a direct replacement/upgrade done in that year. Installed the assembly. Adjusted the engine end play to be within specs. This adjustment has no effect on the clutch operation. Installed the engine and transmission. Found the engine to run very rough and would not idle.Inspected and found the left intake manifold gasket to be leaking. With the customers authorization of extra time to remove the intake and repair the manifold and gasket to prevent a lean mixture and overheat condition. Customer declined on the large exhaust leak repair at this time. Performed road test. There is no need to replace the clutch for the matter of the 215 MM upgraded clutch. Was brought to the customers attention about the fact the vehicle was towed in to us and did not know how the transmission shifted before. Customer had mentioned that the transmission had been replaced with a used a couple of years ago. Customer was advised of the shift rod rod bushings that run under the vehicle were worn out and declined on the repairs. We would like to resolve the concern the customer is experiencing. Please return with the vehicle and we will repair the vehicle at no cost to the customer and keep the customer informed at each stage to resolve the matter. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I strongly disagree with Import Autos response.I was able to find a correct 210mm clutch assembly very easily. As was mentioned previously by Import Auto, the vehicle would not engage in gears when brought in. This is my complaint. The vehicle was not repaired correctly and continues to not engage in gears as it should. Two independent repair shops have concluded that the clutch cable is at maximum adjustment. Also, in reference to Import Auto telling me that a "new bushing" was needed. This was after I brought the vehicle back a second time to have issues resolved and was told this "new bushing" (apparently diagnosed from shop owner sitting in drivers seat because it wasn't pulled into shop) was going to cost me ANOTHER 1200.00$ to have engine and transmission removed again. Final Business Response Please have the customer drop the vehicle off for Monday the 31,2015 to have the 210 MM clutch installed.
