Sassy's Nail Spa Reviews (2)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. This letter is in response to Sassy’s Nail Spa’s response (2/14/18) to my complaint (1/24/18). I reject Ms. D[redacted]’s response (no offer) and object to her accusations regarding my honesty. Her response is inaccurate, accusatory, and evidences a complete lack of concern for customer care. First, Ms. D[redacted] claims to know how Lee removed my gel polish. She incorrectly described Lee’s practice. Lee did not let my natural nails soak for “7-10 minutes.” After no more than 5 minutes, Lee resorted to his electric tools. Because he did not soak my nails for a long enough period of time, none of the gel polish pulled away easily, as it should. Instead, he reached for his electric file. In fact, the first tool was not powerful enough, and he went to another station to find a stronger electric file. The electric file that he used was white with deep grooves. Additionally, Lee was not merely “buffing off the residue,” but he was scraping the entire gel coating off of my nails. As I saw white flakes being scraped off, I asked him if they were pieces of my nail. He did not respond. Several times, he apologized for grinding my free edges and nail walls. For a nail technician with 20 years experience, Lee’s skills are sorely lacking. Second, Ms. D[redacted] insults my integrity. She accuses me of misrepresentation. In my complaint, I indicated that I removed the gel, applied by Lee, with acetone and an orange stick. I was merely referring to the correct method of removal. As I explained to Ms. D[redacted] when I returned to her business, I went to another nail salon for the removal. Not being an expert in nail care and with extremely sore nails, I did not want to attempt the removal myself nor did I want Ms. D[redacted]’s employees to touch my nails again. It was then that I was informed that using an electric file to remove gel is improper. In fact, I was told that some nail technicians remove gel in this way if they are hurried and/or want to get to the next paying customer. I researched nail care and gel removal and this is what I discovered. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, “attempting to remove polish by physical means like scraping or chipping can cause damage.” Also, according to OPI chief scientist [redacted], “the most common reason why nail plates are injured during a soak-off gel removal is because nail technicians do not let the product soak long enough to fully break the bond to the natural nail.” When they use forceful means to remove the polish, “they take part of the natural nail plate off with the gel.” Ms. D[redacted] also attacks my credibility when she calls my injury “questionable” and proposes alternate hypotheses for my nail damage. The facts remain that: 1.                    the day that Lee improperly removed gel from my nails, my nails began to hurt (1/11/18), 2.                    I returned and spoke to Ms. D[redacted] about my injury/pain the day after Lee improperly removed gel from my nails (1/12/18), 3.                    I returned and spoke to Ms. [redacted] after removing the gel that Lee applied to show her the physical damage to my nails (1/23/18). I am attaching photos of my nails, showing the damage caused by Lee’s improper removal of gel. The first photo (taken on 1/23/18) was taken immediately after removal of the polish that Lee applied. The physical damage is evident. In the second photo (taken on 2/15/18), the thickness of my nail plate can be seen. Where my nail plate has grown out, there is no redness from the underlying nail bed. Where Lee damaged my nail plate by scraping and gouging with the electric file, the underlying redness can be seen. To say, as Ms. D[redacted] does, that “Lee did not hurt or cause any cuts on [my] nails” is false. To say, as Ms. D[redacted] does, that Lee did not “scraped (sic) [my] nails” is false. To say, as Ms. Dang does, that Lee “just buffed them” is false. To say, as Ms. D[redacted] does, that the damage was done prior to Lee’s service is false as the timeline suggests. To say, as Ms. D[redacted] does, that I caused damage by “opening something” is false and not supported by the damage to all nail plates. To say, as Ms. D[redacted] does, that I caused damage when “the weather is freezing outside” is false and not supported by the damage to all nail plates. To say, as Ms. D[redacted] does, that the “other nail technician at [the] other salon damaged them” is false and not supported by the timeline. To say, as Ms. D[redacted] does, that “there could be more and more reasons for this” is false. Ms. D[redacted] refuses to take responsibility for damage and injury caused by one of her technicians. Third, I am not seeking any profit other than to be reimbursed for a service improperly performed at Ms. D[redacted]’s business. Ms. D[redacted] has directed me to seek medical treatment. My nails are damaged and sore, but no medical treatment will restore the thickness of my nail plates. The damage will only be repaired when the nails grow.  A visit to a medical doctor would only result in additional expense. A medical doctor cannot place blame. As I asked Ms. D[redacted], in person and through my complaint, I am seeking my money back for the service improperly performed. Ms. D[redacted] claims that her “policy is no refund for services.” Ms. D[redacted] ignored policy when she offered me half of my money back on 1/23/18. I told her that I wanted all of my money back or that I would file a complaint with Revdex.com. She refused. In conclusion, no amount of money will “fix my nails” or ease my pain. I filed my complaint seeking, more than anything, accountability for causing harm. Ms. D[redacted] can do the right thing by apologizing and refunding my money.
Regards,
[redacted]

Review: I called the South Hills store to ask if I could use a Sassy's gift card there that was issued at the Century III store. I was told that I could use it at South Hills store as long as I used the full value of the gift card. When I arrived to the South Hills store I handed the card to the receptionist to ask how much was on the card since I needed to use the full amount. She then called the Century III store because she said she couldn't check the value. Century III told her there was $10 on the card. Lee then took me back to remove my gel polish and repaint my nails. When he was finished, I handed him the gift card as well as my debit card to cover the $17 difference (the total bill was $27). He asked another woman there if I could use the gift card and she told him no. I explained to her that the receptionist told me twice it could be used and she continued to be rude and ignore the fact that I was told it could be used at the South Hills store. The receptionist confirmed that's what she told me and apologized to me. Also, when the receptionist told me I could use it there, other employees were around including the woman who told Lee I couldn't use it, but never once told the receptionist she was incorrect. The gift card should have been honored and my debit card should only have been charged $17 as well as an apology from the woman who was "in charge". Instead, I was basically told "too bad", treated poorly, and had to pay the full $27.Desired Settlement: I would like the full $27 I paid to have my nails done.
