The service manager has been in constant contact with vehicle owner. Owner paid for software up date due to diagnostic code light coming on. When vehicle returned due to lights coming back on, dealer contacted American Honda to find out why the software update was not working as
advertised. American Honda asked if the vehicle has a non-Honda starter in the car, yes it does. The aftermarket part (starter) prevents the software working correctly with the transmission and engine electronic components. The vehicle owner was offered a $discount to purchase an American Honda starter and have this dealer install it. This will correct the problem as the vehicle owner was informed today by the service manager. In order to receive the discount, the starter must be purchased and installed by Santa Barbara Honda. If the vehicle owner prefers, not to replace the aftermarket starter, then the software update is still required so no refund will be given. This option will be available with no time limit.As for the brakes, there is no record of any brake component being replaced under factor warranty, therefore, no refund was ever due.Santa Barbara Honda does not discriminate against any person for any reason
