Schafer's Wild Game Processing Reviews (1)

Review: I hired Schafers Wild Game Processing to process and ship the deer that I harvested while hunting in Montana. They accepted the game and arranged for the shipping of the meat once processing was complete. They insisted that they could ship the meat safely and properly using 3 day shipping. I was charge $80.45 for the processing, $69.64 for the shipping and an additional $100 for handling of the shipping. I was informed on the 12th of Nov that the meat had shipped by [redacted] I was told that the shipment would arrive on the 15th. The shipment did not arrive until the 19th of Nov. Needless to say all of the meat was spoiled. I contacted Schafer's to resolve the issue. They ask for me to contact [redacted] since the shipping took too long to arrive. I contacted [redacted] as ask. [redacted] informed me that Schafers shipped the meat using 5 working day shipping. The weekends did not count in shipping days. The meat had arrived to me within the commitment agreement with Schafer's. There was not a claim against [redacted] due to them upholding the agreement with Schafer's. I again contacted Shafer's to resolve this issue. They informed me that they would deal with [redacted] and get back with me. Several days later I had not heard from Schafer's and call them again. They finally returned my call and offered me $100 to reimburse me. I informed them that I could not accept this amount. I had paid them much more than $100 and I still had to replace the meat that they caused to spoil. The replacement of 60 pounds of venison at an average of $21.00 a pond will cost $1260.Desired Settlement: The cost of shipping and handling must be reimbursed. Also the Replacement of the spoiled meat. I was able to find a web site where venison can be purchased. See website [redacted] The average cost of meat is $21.00 a pound. 60 pounds of meat at $21.00 a pound totals $1260. This in addition to $250.09 shipping and handling totals a reimbursement of $1510.09

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Attn:

Complaint ID [redacted].

In response to the letter received on 12-20-2013 from Schafer’s Wild Game Processing regarding complaint # [redacted]. First, I would like to point out several discrepancies with the letter you received from [redacted]. I will address these in the order they were listed in the letter.

1. [redacted] stated that the shipping arrangements were made after processing of the meat was completed. This is not a true statement. The shipping arrangements were made over the phone the date the deer was dropped off for processing. This was done prior to the deer being accepted by Schafer’s Processing. I was contacted by Schafer’s again when they shipped the meat on the 12th of November. I was informed the delivery of the meat would be the 15th of November. I have this saved on my answering machine for verification. When the meat did not arrive on the 15th of November we called Schafer’s Wild Game Processing to inquire about the shipment. We were assured that the meat would still arrive fresh and frozen even if it took 5 days to arrive. At this time Schafer’s should have contacted [redacted] to check on the status of the delivery. If this would have been done the shipment may have been saved. Again, I must point out that I did not have any of the shipping information at this time to check on it myself. We did not receive the meat until the 19th of November. Needless to say the meat was spoiled.

2. I was offered two different shipping options at that time. I am not disputing this fact. In fact, I was guaranteed that the meat would be delivered still frozen no matter which way I chose to ship the meat. Additionally, I felt Schafer’s was prioritizing (pushing) the 5 day shipping option. I definitely would not have chosen an option that would deliver my meat spoiled.

3. Most importantly, I do not have an issue with [redacted] since I did not hire [redacted]. I hired Schafer’s Wild Game Processing to safely ship the meat. They choose the delivery company to ship. I only choose the delivery time offered by Schafer’s. I do not know the terms of the contract between Schafer’s and [redacted]. Additionally, I did not request Schafer’s to contact [redacted]. In Fact, I only contacted [redacted] because of a request made by [redacted]. [redacted] requested that I call [redacted]. I did so trying to resolve this issue directly with [redacted]. [redacted] informed me that Schafers had chosen the 5 day delivery option. I still do not have any documents between [redacted] and Shafer's Wild Game Processing. I have made every attempt to resolve this matter directly with [redacted].

4. I acknowledge that [redacted] offered to settle this matter. Initially he offered to refund the $100.00 he charged for the safe handling of shipment. I would not accept this as a settlement. He then raised that to the $250.09 for the processing and handling. I did not accept this either. I am out not only the cost of processing and handling my damages includes 60 pounds of venison. The replacement of 60 pounds of venison at an average of $21.00 a pound will cost $1260. This in addition to the $250.09 totals $ 1,510.09. This is why I am seeking the Better Buisness Bureau.
