Bed bugs
Martinsville va schewels sold me a living room suit with bed bugs I have pics and video. After giving me the run around and bogus corporate numbers the store said they could only return my money.

Horrible
My elderly client went into the store and asked about a bed that was tagged as Unsellable. She asked about it and was told oh we will sell it. Her son went to pick it up and got it home and noticed it was full of cracks. Upon removing from the vehicle, it broke at the crack. Called and they refuse to refund or exchange because it was sold as is. Very awful that they treat elderly this way. selling them horrible furniture and not explaining it was as is and broken.

Experience in Martinsburg WV
I went into my local Schewels just looking for a recliner and was fortunate enough to meet a lady named Liz. Liz was extremely helpful and she was not overbearing and pushy. Liz patiently showed us other chairs which led us to a whole furniture set we liked. Liz explained the option for financing through the company and took me to a wonderful lady named Ginger who help us get paperwork filled out and completed in a timely fashion with the help of a great manager named Cory. My credit isn't the best and Cory came out to talk to us and assist us with our application and he never made me feel uncomfortable like other companies do. Upon delivery of our chair, the couch was on backorder the chair was broken I was frustrated and called Cory. Cory very calmly said come on in and we will make it right. I returned to catch up with Cory and he took me to a new set that had just came in and would fit my wife perfectly because of her back issues. Cory is a natural leader who cares about his customers and goes out of his way to let them know. He took me back to Vicki to get the contract rewritten and I was on my way. Great Job Martinsburg I will be back for more items!1

We have puchased thousands of $'s woth of furnishings from Schewls over our lifetime. My husband had purchased a queen mattress that was faulty and needed to be "upgraded" when we married 8 months ago. fine, we did. Now, over a half a year later when we were down to about 6 remaining payments, we get a phone call requesting us to come to the store and sign a revised purchase contract. Seems they had made a $1,000.00 miscalculation when we bought the upgraded queen mattress set! What bullcrap! to say I am DONE with this store is putting it mildly!

I bought a couch and Love Seat on November 6, 2015 from Schewel's in Mt Airy NC. First, let me say, this was the first and last time I will ever buy anything from Schewels, I would not recommend this store to anyone, so if anyone were to ask me about them, I will definitely tell them about my experience. From the time I walked in to the minute I bough my furniture, no one told me I had just three days to cancel the sell, and they let the three days start that day, but my furniture wasn't delivered until 5 days later. When they delivered it, the love seat was too big for the area where I had my former love seat. I went back to Schewells my next day off from work, which was Friday of the same week, to see if they would let me trade my furniture, the manager would not do that, but asked if I wanted two recliners instead, so I let them take the couch back and took the recliners, of which I ended up with the same problem, so I went back to see if he would just take one of the recliners back. he said he would have to call Corporate and he would call me back the next day, while letting know it was past the three days, that no one mentioned to me when I bought the furniture. I waited until 2:30 the next day and still had not gotten a call from the manager, so I called Corporate, who was pretty much taking up for the manager, so I hung up. About an hour or less later the manager called me , mad because I called Corporate claiming he was out of town and that was the reason he hadn't called me back. I'm stuck with recliner and trying to sell it, and I know I will have to take a lot less than I gave for it, but lesson learned, I don't get burned but one time. There are too many furniture stores around to have to deal with Schewels, and I will never as I said before go in that store again.

I recently bought a recliner from Schewels in Martinsburg WV. Instead of paying them $119. to deliver a chair across town, my daughter picked it up for me the same day. When I got home from Schewels I went to the mailbox to pickup my mail. One envelope I received was from Schewels and it contained a $50 birthday coupon to be used on my next purchase. I had to wait until Tuesday to contact Schewels because of the Christmas holiday. I explained that had I gone to the mailbox first before going to buy my recliner I would have used it for that purchase. I asked if they would honor the coupon and was told since I had already taken possession of the chair, I couldn't use the $50 coupon. This is so lame. I've made so many furniture purchases at Schewels however I will NEVER spend another dime in their store.

Review: I have purchased about $5000.00 in furniture from Schewel's within a little over a year (since March 2013). Out of the furniture I purchased, one item was a bunk bed for my daughters whom are 5 and 7. I purchased this bunkbed in Oct 2013. Within a month of purchase, the cheap fli**y metal rods that support the top mattress were collapsing. After contacting the company in December 2013, I was told they would send someone out which was weeks out. There were a couple reschedules at this point. Then the man comes out to fix the bed and does absolutely nothing but instead says he needs to order some more of the cheap fli**y metal rods to support the top mattress. I knew immediately this wasn't going to work because it didn't work the last time. So, when he comes out with the parts, he notices that the entire wood frame is separating from the bed and their are sharp nails hanging out. The man instructed for nobody to get on the top bunk at all and that he was going to have to order a new wood piece which could take a while. Also, did I mention he left the bed laying on the floor in my kids room which I felt was sloppy. I was pretty upset regarding yet another delay with the repair and called the store and spoke with the manager. She assured me she would get an appointment for me as soon as the part came in. After weeks of waiting on the part I finally was scheduled an appointment on 6/11/14. On, 6/9/14, I received a call from a gentleman who stated he had to reschedule my appointment and there was no way they could do it. I specifically took off of work that day to ensure I was there to make sure they were handling the situation correctly. He asked me if he could reschedule for the weekend and I advised that I could not do that and reiterated that I took off work to accomodate this repair. He even asked, "Well, can't you have a neighbor, friend, or relative come over for the appointment?" Well, needless to say, I am completely unsatisfied with this issue. My daughters have not been able to utilize this bed for the last 7 months which is ridiculous and has completely comprimised our sleeping arrangements. Additionally, the dining room table I purchased has dents all around the table and chairs which shows how cheaply made the table is. These dents were created by pushing in the chairs and not with great force I might add. I don't understand what the insurance I purchased is exactly for. I don't call touching up a table with a wood marker a repair but instead covering up an existing issue which will surely reveal itself yet again. I won't even go into detail about a couple other products I purchased that were all cheaply made and didn't make it a year. Shame on me I suppose from trusting in spending my hard earned dollars at Schewel's. I should have listened to my family members who all refer to Shewel's furniture as "Schewel's Junk." Mr. Schewel, I certainly hope that this is not the way you intend to run your company. As of now, all I see is your company prospering from preying on those who don't have the best credit by offering them credit lines so they can purchase cheaply made furniture that you don't stand behind. You would get a lot further by providing customer's with quality furniture and at the very least replace ite** that are obviously defective. Wood ite** such as a bunk bed and dining room table are types of ite** that you purchase and plan to get plenty of years use from but instead I find myself already considering purchasing another table when the one I just bought a little over a year ago is still not completely paid for. Please, put yourself in the consumer's shoes and realize this is wrong.Desired Settlement: I want the bunk bed replaced.

Response:

Dear **. [redacted],I am writing in regards to complaint ID [redacted].**. [redacted] purchased a bunk bed set on October 5th, 2013. Her initial complaint was on December 4th. Her issue at that time was that the bed was coming apart. She was scheduled for service on December 23rd. Our service man went to her home and reported back that she needed six new metal slat wires. The parts were ordered that very day. On January 16th, the parts arrived at the store, but on inspection it was discovered that they all had not arrived. Our assistant manager immediately contacted the manufacturer and had them on the way. On February 17th, the completion of the parts had arrived. Service was then scheduled for March 7th. Upon that service call, it was discovered that now the bunk guard rail was bending. This was due to it being used while waiting on repair, and also the fact that it was not being properly used as there was no bunkie board in place. The initial parts were installed that day and also a new bunk guard rail was also ordered. When our assistant manager called to order the guard rail, he was informed that it was on back order at the time and could take a while to get in.I had personally spoken to **, [redacted] not long after that and told her the parts were on order. I had handled the scheduling of complaints for a short time then and she asked if she could be scheduled "even though the parts were not yet in". I told her we don't normally do that because we don't yet have a definitive date of when they will be arriving yet. To please the customer, I scheduled her for April 4th, and told her upfront that this might change if they are not in, The parts did not arrive until April 22, which is why that appointment needed to be rescheduled. We called **. [redacted] on April 23rd to schedule her service appointment. An entire month went by and we did not hear from her. We called her again on May 22ncl, and even phoned one of her relatives to get the message to her to call us. She called back that day and service was scheduled for June 12th.We did make the error of scheduling service for the 12th as our service man would be on vacation. We called her back and rescheduled it for the following week on June 19th.On June 19th the job was completed* We were also informed by our service man that all of these issues was due to the mattress being used without a bunkie board. The customer purchased the bunk bed, and one bunkie (when purchased from us they come standard with a bunkie board) in October 2013- She did not purchase the second bunkie mattress from us so she must have already had one, thus being the one causing the problems with the bed. Without a bunkie board, the mattress lays directly on metal wires which can tear the mattress and also there is not enough support. On out last report, it was noted by our service man that he informed the customer why this happened, and that "It will happen again" unless a bunkie board is purchased, and the customer signed this. This is one of our most popular bunk beds and rarely does it ever get a complaint if used properly. We have pages of notes on this complaint, as we document every transaction and all discussions. There is lots of documentation that isn't mentioned of our assistant manager calling the manufacturer checking on the parts orders and trying to get them expedited, Each piece of furniture comes with a manufacturer one year warranty. While we want **. [redacted] to be happy, that warranty states the merchandise is repaired whenever possible, not replaced. Had the manufacturer known that this bed was being used without the proper parts in place (Bunkie board) it very well may not have even been covered.Sincerely,
