Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
I would like to let [redacted] know that we would have a job for him in the spring, so he could come to our house for this job and correct the other job.  It would be to lay a concrete pad for our garbage cans, and possibly a concrete patio or a concrete pad for a shed.  We are willing to work with him, if he could please contact us either now or in the spring of 2015 to give us a quote for those two additional jobs.  I look forward to hearing from him and for better communication going forward.
Regards,
[redacted]

Schilling Concrete has replaced a large slab on our driveway. Keith and his guys did excellent work in a timely fashion. They also cleaned up very well. Keith is very knowledgeable and also pointed out a problem that we forgot to mention and had an easy solution for it. We would recommend him highly for concrete work. It's also nice to have a local company do the work.

Review: We had Schilling Concrete install our driveway and walkway in 2010. In 2013 we noticed that our walkway was becoming uneven, creating a hazard, when our neighbor tripped over it. We contacted Keith Schilling immediately to notify him of the problem. After numerous messages, he finally stopped by our house in May 2014. He admitted there it was installed defectively and promised to me in front of myself, my wife and my neighbor that he would fix the problem at no cost to us before the end of the year. I have been trying to contact him for over 8 weeks, including mailing a certified letter. I have not heard back from him once.Desired Settlement: I want him to keep his word and to fix our defective walkway.

My uncle was [redacted] of the business in when the job was performed for [redacted] and I was an employee at the time. I bought the business from him in 2011. Then it was R.E. Schilling Concrete Contracting. I Changed it to Schilling Concrete. They stated that they noticed the problem in 2013 and contacted me in spring of 2014. I never admitted that we installed the walk defectively. The home owners wife said that her father said the walk was defective due to improper sub-grade preparation. I stated that when the work was done why did everything remain perfect except for this area. Why would Schilling Concrete Contracting do a great job on everything else and not this small area. That makes no sense at all. I was present when the work was performed and know for a fact that the sub-grade of prepared properly. This was a new construction home and the ground probably settled some over the years as is the case with most newly constructed homes. Before I worked for R.E. Schilling I worked for a company for 7 years doing concrete construction on new homes and this was a common occurrence because the fill placed on sites has not settled in a short period of time. I told the homeowner that when I had a job in the area I would fix the problem to keep good customer relations. To fix this by itself would be approximately over $600 out of my pocket for a job that I did not contract through my business. Even though the driveway and walk way is already 4 years old and went through 2 very severe winters. I do not feel that I am obligated to fix this issue, yet am willing to fix the problem when I have a job in the area out of the kindness to the homeowner. I was left a message 2 weeks ago on a Saturday morning and the homeowner stated he has some other work for me and if I did not respond by the end of the day he would file a complaint with the Revdex.com. I was out of town and came back home today and am now responding. If the homeowner cannot wait till I have a job in the area they can incur the cost and will fix it by itself.

Review: I had my front stoop removed and replaced by Schilliing Concrete in August 2012. In March of 2015 the concrete is flaking off due to improper mix of the concrete. I have contacted the contractor 5 times, left messages and texted. He returned my call after the third time and told me the day and time frame which he would come to look at it. He never showed up and does not return my calls. I had two other contractors look at the job and both conferred that it was a bad mix of concrete with too much water and the job did not cure correctly.Desired Settlement: I wish to have him repair this without cost to me as the error was not due to anything I have done or provide me with a refund so that I can get the concrete repaired. If it is left unrepaired the porch will continue to flake.

As [redacted] of Schilling Concrete I am personally on every job. When this porch was poured in 2012 the sidewalk was also poured at the same time, with the same truck, with the same 6 bag mix cement with fiber mesh reinforcement. Cement was ordered a 6 inch slump. Rarely is the product delivered at that slump. Meaning it usually comes at a lower slump. It is my practice to pour stoops stiffer then add water as needed for flat work. The area of flaking is only on the surface platform of stoop. No where else is this occurring on the porch or walk. The concrete has went through 3 winters. 1 of which was the top 5 coldest in history. There was no issues till now. Also the job was sealed with a curing sealer when finished so it should have cured just fine. I looked at porch and took pictures. By no means was this an issue of improper workmanship. I have never had this issue with any job that I have ever done. I don't know why this occurred but I know that I am not in any way responsible for this occurring. I will contact home [redacted] and see if I can try a resurface overlay for her.

To date, July2, 2015,I have not been contacted by Schilling Concrete as to an overlay on the concrete porch. I am unaware of him coming to the house to look at the porch. Pictures were forwarded to him that my father took and sent to [redacted]'s uncle, who then passed them on to [redacted]. If he followed up by coming out to the house, I was not contacted. If he is willing to resolve this issue, why have I not received a call and why did he not call when and if he came to look at the porch so that I could be present. According to 2 other concrete contractors that have also examined the porch, based on their experience, they said there was either too much water in the mix or it did not cure correctly. The problem that is occurring on the porch will continue to spread if not taken care of properly. I do not feel that I should have to pay twice, once to replace the porch and again to have it repaired due to a concrete issue or a curing issue. Many things that [redacted] stated are true. He was present during the job and his workmanship was good. I do not think that the problem occurring with my porch is necessarily something he could have for seen. According to the two other contractors I had look at the porch, they said they have both seen this happen with jobs they have done. I am not interested in battling over words, I would like to resolve this problem before the winter. I called [redacted] originally when I noticed the problem because I was confident in his work and thought he would be able to fix this as he knows the process he used to replace the original porch. After he did not return my calls and then responded to one of the calls, selected a day to stop by and did not show up, and then did not return subsequent calls, I began to question whether he stands by his work. Going forward I would like the porch repaired. Because the issue itself is a defect in the material or curing process, I do not feel that I should incur the cost of repair to the porch. Hopefully some agreement can be reached.
