Ms. [redacted] called us for a periodontal examination appointment on 12-29-15. We do not request insurance information normally at that time as many patients do not have dental insurance and we are not aware of what they will need help for...

until we see them. We do request this information when they come in for their appointment. If insurance is an important factor for them and they request information prior to the appointment we can determine if we if we participate with their plan and if the insurance pays if we are not in the plan. We do not know what treatment is needed until we do a thorough exam.
In order to do this exam we need appropriate xrays for the particular problem. We had xrays sent to us from her general dentist (referring doctor) but they did not give us the needed information as they were taken for a different concern at her dentist. We told her this and asked for different xrays that could be taken in our office now or she could returnto her dentist to take them. She requested that we take them with no request that we check with her insurance first.
Since she was so upset and came into my office in an outrage on 2-3-16, yelling at my staff and in front of other patients when her insurance didn't want to pay for the additional xrays we took, we credited her credit card for the cost of the xrays and office visit. We gave a copy of the xrays to her and sent them also to her dentist with a report of our finding and recommendations.
I feel everything we did for her was appropriate and hope that she gets help for her periodontal needs somewhere. I don't think we should be critized publicly when what we did was appropriate.
