Schmelings Landscape

Tim Nelson from Schmeling's Landscaping is really bad with project management/timeliness. He took our hardscaping/landscaping project and rescheduled it 6 times. We had to follow up with him every 2 weeks as he did not proactively communicate. At the end, he cancelled our project because of other bigger projects and extra work he took on. He made false promises and never followed through on his promises. Left us hanging the entire summer! Extremely unprofessional. Please stay away from this company. You job might never get done.

I hired Schmeling's Landscape on the recommendation of a friend who has used them for general landscaping work at his home. I hired them to top-dress and reseed my lawn after having quackgrass killed off. My issue with this original part of the work was that I was promised 30 yards of soil and charged for it. I actually only received 24 yards.

The initial work was done in the fall of 2012 and when the seed did not germinate within a reasonable time, I called and was assured that this would be taken care of in the spring of 2013.

This spring they did come back and add spread some additional dirt(finally got some of what was supposed to be delivered in the fall) however it is now apparent that the quality of this soil was extremely inferior; heavy clay and gravel content. Additional seed was also laid.

While there is now grass growing in some areas, there is still an abundance of quackgrass and many, many bare spots which makes the lawn as rough, if not rougher, than when I hired Schmelings.

When I called [redacted], the owner of Schmeling's, to ask when they would come back to recitify the situation I was told that I should spread out additional soil in the fall and rent a roller to compact it. When I asked that they do this at their expense I was told that they would not do so. When asked why they didn't compact the soil initially, I was told that they did the best they could and could not be held responsible for mother nature. I was also 'schooled' on how a small business operates and that he wouldn't be able to survive if he had to keep coming back to correct problems. In addition, he was supposedly amazed that I would even "have the guts" to expect them to take care of this type of problem without charging more.

I now have a lawn that is no better than before I hired Schmeling's and have a considerable less amount of money in my pocket. Based on my experience, I would never recommend this company to anyone and have already warned my friend to beware of what he has this company do. They have proven they are not to be trusted to back up their work.
