Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/10/27) */
We installed a transmission (the customer bought the transmission from a third party asked if we could install it.) in the gentlemen's pickup which is a '99 Chevy Silverado which is what he was scheduled for. He also asked us to check out the...

rear differential. Which we did we informed him the rear end was not good spider gears are bad. He said he was not going to fix that at this time. So we put back together and put in new oil. Then we had to replace the detent cable which was in bad shape he agreed we replaced it. On the front drive shaft a new u-joint was need he agreed to that repair also. Then the rear drive shaft was shot a new one list price from GM is 700.00 he said no way so I suggested I could try and find a used one he agreed. So I found one that was a good used rear drive shaft which we installed. Also at this point he told me do not call me anymore just finish with the truck I have no more money to stick into it! At Which he want a total every time I called so he was well aware of the total each time I called. That is why he told me no more just finish it. So I did not call anymore and left everything else as is at his request. Then a few weeks later he called said the rear drive shaft flew off. So I told him to bring it in and we would see why it happened. Which once we got it the straps were still in tack that hold the drive shaft on and the cups were in the straps and the u-joint was still on the drive shaft which is why we believe there is more of a problem and replacing the shaft is not going to fix it. So we explained and I look for another drive shaft good used for what we paid or even close to what we paid I even called the place we got the drive shaft from. They said used part no warranty! So I search and search the only options I found was 1 used one for 300.00 a rebuilt one for 400.00 and a new one for 700.00 so we said we would apply the price of his shaft that we charged him for to one of the 3 list above and do the labor at no cost. But all his response was to me every time I'd call was I will pay for a u-joint! A U-joint is not going to fix the problem I told him. So then he said we had till Friday to get it done so again I made numerous call even went to a guys shop who has a ton of drive shafts that are used nothing. So I call and again offered to the 1 used I did find and the new one and the rebuilt he said no. I am not paying anymore money to you except for a u-joint. So I asked told him that will not fix your problem so he said put it on the street and leave the keys in it which was Friday the 22nd of October I at that point issued him a refund for the drive shaft that was a used one with no warranty. There is also no warranty on his invoice. Attached is a copy of his invoice everything he was charged for are all things he agreed to and there is a whole lot more with the truck but like he said it is a project for his son. Which I do believe that no matter what drive shaft we were to install it would not fix his problem cause the pinion yoke to the rear end also needs to be replaced.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/10/27) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I guess I assume the best in a company when told they can do repairs. Apparently, this company can't. Why should I have to pay for another drive shaft when the one I already paid for, flew off going 30 miles an hour after driving it for less than 25 miles? In speaking with the owner/manager, I was informed that they do a lot of work for large companies but apparently, don't give a damn about the little guy. I also NEVER asked them to look at the rear differential as I was never asked if I wanted them to, they just did it. Bottom line is that they told me to come get the truck because they would not fix it unless I paid for another drive shaft. Why? I paid for one which they did not put on correctly and they want me to pay for another?? I told them to put my truck outside of their yard because there is a sign on their wall stating that if a vehicle is left more than, I think it said 3 days, there would be a charge. I have already paid them for lousy work and did not want to pay for a lousy parking space.
