September 21, 2016 To Revdex.com, I read the complaint brought forth by Mr. [redacted]. There are some valid points he makes in regards to the weather conditions and possible water getting into his home. I have no control over the weather and if t it is going to...
rain or not. Best practice dictates that we always try to avoid tearing off a roof when there is rain in the forecast, however, weather conditions are variable and forecasts are not always accurate. Mr. [redacted]’s roof was at no time left exposed to the elements and was covered with a tarp at all times. At some point, Mr. [redacted] bought his own tarp and went on the roof to put it on over the one that was already put in place to prevent water from entering the home. He unfastened my tarp and made additional holes in the roof where holes should not have been placed. Mr. [redacted]’s roof was opened for far longer than we initially believed it would be and the job took considerably longer; as the repair was labor intensive. There were many warped, rotted, and damaged boards, as evidenced by the attached pictures, which needed to be removed and replaced. This was not apparent upon initial inspection as the joices were covered and the damage was not visible until the shingles were removed and the roof was opened up. If there had not been so much wood that needed to be replaced, the roof would have been completed much quicker and perhaps the elements not at issue. The repair and replacement of the rotted wood was done outside of the parameters of the original contract and at no additional cost to Mr. [redacted]. The shingles put on Mr. [redacted]’s home were dimensional shingles. The entire roof was completed and the same brand, color and style were utilized. There is no way that the shingles on the front and the back of the roof look different unless it is that person’s own perception. After water did go into Mr. [redacted]’s home, I was made aware of the damage via phone call From Mr. [redacted] that day, August, 20, 2016. I told Mr. [redacted] that I would come out to his home the nest day and access the damage. When I arrived there on August 21, 2016, he had already disposed of his mattress. The walls, flooring, carpeting and ceiling were already torn out and there was nothing that I could assess or do to settle this dispute. I was not afforded the opportunity to view access and/or correct the damage before Mr. [redacted] brought in a third party who tore everything out. I would have liked to have been given the opportunity to not only view the alleged water damage but also to find an equitable solution for the homeowner but I was not allowed to do that as Mr. [redacted] acted prior to my coming to his home one day after notification of the problem. The entire roof was completed per the original contract, as well as the additional work of removing and replacing the damaged wood which was done without additional cost to the homeowner. There are, however, a few clips which need to be installed on the boards in order for Mr. [redacted] to pass inspection. I have not heard from the homeowner and to my knowledge, the roof is sound, sealed and not leaking. I do need access to Mr. [redacted]’s home to complete the installation of the clips so that the roof can pass inspection. Thank you, JDM Development LLC Willie [redacted]
