Review: mechanic was to change a radiator hose. hose was changed and car was run without coolant for an hour causing it to overheat multiple times. when I checked under the hood, the coolant tank was empty. then asked about why he ran it empty he said it wasn't and that radiator hoses arn't supposed to have fluid in them. he was blaitently lieing to my saying the car is good to drive even though there is no fluid.Desired Settlement: full refund. mechanic held my car hostage untill he got money of a service which was not provided. and what they did do was damage my car.

Response:

Vehicle was filled with coolant and tested to insure no overheating, proper flow through the heater core, and that the cooling fans were operating properly. Vehicle tested OK and was parked by the mechanic. During testing, vehicle went into the hot range, which is normal when bleeding the system of air. At no time did the vehicle enter into the overheating range. Customer was not present during testing so he would have no ability to claim it overheated several times. We did not recheck the coolant level after the vehicle cooled off and coolant level settled, which is part of the normal testing process. The customer noticed the low coolant when he came to pick up the car. We realized our mistake and had the customer bring the car around in front of the bay so that we could add additional coolant and bleed the system. The customer proceeded to bleed the car himself outside. Seeing that he wanted to do this, we assisted him outside and provided additional coolant (free of charge) that was needed in addition to the coolant that he provided for the job. The customer was rightfully upset about the low amount of coolant in the vehicle and negotiated a reduced price. The original price was $254.88. I made an offer, he countered with a lower offer of $200, and I accepted, as the job was not done to our normal standards. At no point was his vehicle held or ever inaccessible to him. It was parked out front, with the keys in it and the window down, with the engine running while the additional coolant was added. Customer was in and out of the car during his own testing and was never denied access. The customer was calm during the entire process and the conversation and negotiations were civil and polite. We are not inclined to offer an additional discount. A reasonable reduced price, that the customer himself suggested, was already given.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

Due to the shop running the engine with coolant level at around 35% the car overheated.

This caused excessive pressure to build in the coolant system causing the heater core to crack/leak and a heavy coolant odor in the car through all air vents, windows to fog and a leak worse than when I first came in.
