Science Care is Not about Science & Doesn't Care--Anatomical Board is what you want
Found out the hard way, after Dad passed, 2 weeks later, they dumped us off the back of the truck, after a lot of red tape, online emails, etc. As nopenope said, they didn't have a sale for his body parts, but too dishonest to tell the truth about what they were up to.
Then I found out, from someone in the business who really cares, that Science Care is For Profit, has nothing to do with science (or caring).
$27 million they made scamming people --

Texas tried to keep em out, they believe, as I & many others do, that it's immoral & unethical (but apparently not illegal) to profit from selling donated bodies. I could add a few choice words to those, but I think u get the idea.
The same person who really cares, told me about Anatomical Boards, at Universities where the Medical students use the cadavers for learning. The University of Denver Anschutz Campus even has an Annual Anatomical Donor Memorial Ceremony. They said "There is a high demand for body donation. The State Anatomical Board works only with trusted institutions where your gift will be accepted with gratitude and treated respectfully."
You can find these more trustworthy sites by searching for Anatomical Board, and the state.
2 elder women I know are now going to donate to the Anatomical Board, & dump science care scammers off the back of the truck.
Please share this information with others, knowledge is power!
I would rate them -5, but this system made me choose 1 star or it wouldn't accept this review.

Absolute worst. BEWARE
PLEASE stay away. Callous, uncaring and unprofessional.
For the person above who had the audacity to say someone was a "joke" for expecting Science Care to compensate them for the terrible behavior they displayed, SHAME ON YOU!
This company dangles a "free cremation" in front of those who are poor, and/or are scared to leave a financial burden on their family. They take advantage of those who are vulnerable, and they profit from it. They act like what they do is SO noble= but can't even guarantee that the remains are not contaminated with others before them. To add insult to injury, you might want to double check the death certificate, because they will not even submit the correct NAME of your loved one.
I am disgusted and embarrassed that this was the choice my mother was so adamant about. Since her death, we have discussed and changed the path that my father was going to take with this company. Never again.

There are so many other options that will help medical research- PLEASE choose something else.

They took care of everything.
I found out about Science Care from a friend who had his dad's body donated. My mom didn't have much money for a funeral, so I printed out information about Science Care and showed my brother. We both decided that this was a good option for us. When mom passed (in October 2008) in the hospital, I told the nurse that we were donating her body to Science Care. The hospital Life Bank was contacted to harvest what they could, and then her body was sent to a funeral home until Science Care could pick her up. A few months later I received her ashes. I didn't run into any problems. My husband and I are going to donate our bodies to Science Care also.

Husband passed at home.
My husband was not in Hospice but was sick with heart & diabetes issues. He wanted to make thing easier for me at his death, so I filled out the paper work for him. he signed the paperwork when we received it. At his death on May 12, 2017, I called the Sheriff's office & told them my husband just died, they were very courteous, sent a couple of Officers out to be with us as we waited for the Corounor, he then waited with us for the Funeral Home to pick up my husband & as he was a veteran, he was draped with the American Flag. as we went through the process, everyone was polite & very caring. Our whole family was very pleased with how respectful & dignified everyone was with my husband.Science care emailed & phoned us to see how we were doing. We live in Arizona.

Every company has flaws
Well I apologize for y'alls lost and for the time that you felt has been not so satisfying with science care, may God continue to bless you and your families in your time of lost.
But I've had a different experience with science care. Although I am still alive, I am 37 and hopefully will live many many many more happy year on this earth; I already signed up with science care in 2019. And my process went smoothly. I had not trouble whatsoever. I received the paperwork via mail in a few days as well as registered myself and received my own personal donation care in the event of my death to let fam friends and medical staff know that I am not an ORGAN DONOR but a WHOLE BODY DONOR! As well well as donation cards for fam and friends just in case they would like to become donors as well. I don't remember speaking to anyone who was rude or unprofessional nor not being notified of the possibility of my body not "being accepted or accepted" into the their program. Because whenever you received paperwork from them via pdf download, email, postal mail or have read it online; it literally and clearly states that it's a possibility that bodies of certain types of diseases might not be accepted due to contamination and have to be disposed of properly. And it's not in fine print. It's actually one of the stipulations that you agree to with science care when you register regardless. And this is with every body donation company you register with regardless of anything. And also I took it upon myself to do extra research in which I also received this information from my state department as well. So my experience was nice and I just wanted to share.
Maybe they had newbies as CSR's or something else, I'm not sure what to say. But I hope just because you had a delay with a few hours or days doesn't change your minds about this company. Every company has flaws somewhere but that doesn't mean they are not a good company. Hopefully your next experience will be a better experience as I have had so far with this company.
I'm all about LEARNING AND SCIENCE...And I've wanted this for myself since I was younger. Once again may God bless you and your families.

I pre-registered my mother 2 years ago. I was told there was a chance she would not be accepted. They determine that at death. Which makes perfect sense to me. She passed away just before midnight on 1/15/20. We went to the nursing hone to see her before they called Science Care. I answered a few questions over the phone, less than 5 minutes. The funeral hone (arranged by SC) arrived within 90 minutes to pick her up. The next day I received a call from SC to answer a few more updated questions, no more than 15 min. the funeral home called to help with death certificate. Now, not even a month later, 2/5/20, I receive a phone call that my mother’s ashes are being delivered. Very thankful for that it wasn’t a sudden surprise. They were delivered today. The process was very professional, caring and timely.

Mother passed away last week. She wanted her body donated, the hospice at the hospital found this company. Let me say when you read and see all the grief this company has put us through it is unnecessary and unprofessional. It has taken over 6 days to get my mothers body donated. I believe they need to compensate us for our time lost dealing with them while we were grieving my mother. I had to give a star but really did not want to give them any.

I am so sorry for your loss. This company preys on those who want to make the world a better place. I wish it could be shut down!

I read your problems you have had with Science Care. I am confused, all the forms are on the website and available online. Am I missing something? Were there forms at the last minute that were not available online? J

You're mad at SC? Why were there no arrangements made ahead of time? The delay is your fault for not taking the steps to ensure prompt attention to your deceased mother. Do you want compensation for your lack of preparedness? What a joke you are. Science care takes care of everything for free and you have the audacity of wanting them to give you money? Shame on your greedy self!

January 23, 2020 my mother passed away with lung cancer that spread through her body. She lived in Tennessee and was at Vanderbilt Hospital which is where we were donating her body to Science Care. My mother wanted her body donated to help others or at least for science. My dad called this company and started the prescreening phone conversation which took multiple hours. With multiple calls and call backs we thought it was going to be an easy process, but we were wrong. The lady told us she would email me the documents, then said she would fax them since we were still at the hospital. 2 hours later we still had not received the papers by fax or email, they were claiming the fax number was wrong. Mean while we received a call from another company wanting to harvest her eyes. We explained to them that we were in the process with Science care, they were such a great company they harvested the eyes and were supposed to send the body to Science care. That was all on that Thursday, Friday morning we were on the phone again with Science care trying to get the paperwork. This time we were going to have them fax it to the library. We went to the library hours after we had given them the fax number and still no papers. They again claimed it was not the right fax number. Still I have not yet received an email either. Later that Friday night, my dad gets a message saying we never gave a verbal consent. This was done both by my dad and myself. He called them backed talked to another person, said to them I received a message saying you need a verbal consent…long pause from the lady on the phone then says are you consenting? We were like what in the heck is going on. He asked if we were all done and that is all they needed, and she said yes. We still never received papers. Saturday, we get a call from the hospital that they have the body and what did we want to do with it. Science care never returned the other companies phone calls, and my moms body ended back at the hospital morgue. Monday evening my dad gets a call saying we never did the paperwork which at this point he was talking to a supervisor. He told her that they never sent them to us, we tried twice with faxing and kept looking for an email. She finally sent the email. Since we needed a witness, we went to the library again. We printed them, signed them and then faxed them. Along with the papers were a bunch of questions they wanted us to fill out, which we did the past Thursday on the phone. My dad said can we just go over it on the phone, another half hour on the phone going over more questions which were asked already. Now we are 6 days later still trying to get my mothers body donated. For them to process it they need a social security number which we do not have with us because we went to Michigan to have a memorial service since that is where she was from. So, the process is not done, but should have been done while we were in the hospital sitting next to her body so we could tell them where she was going to go. Just devastating amount of time this has taken us while we are grieving my mother. They were not very compassionate or supportive. We found them to very rude that they seemed we were inconveniencing them. Which is why I gave no stars!

My father was registered with Science Care for several years. When he moved back to Cincinnati, we contacted Science Care to confirm his registration and all was confirmed and, as far as we knew, all set. Not once did anyone mention anything to us about the possibility that his body may not be accepted to a "program". We called two days prior to his death to advise Science Care that he was now on Hospice. At that point, why in the world wouldn't Science Care have mentioned this fact or at least ask the pre-screening questions at the time this call was made? How horrifying and tragic it was for us to find out on the day of his death (11/23/2016) that Science Care did not have a "program" that would accept his body. We were flabbergasted and cannot believe how unprofessional this whole ordeal ended up being.

+12

They didn't have a "program" because they wouldn't benefit financially from his body when he died.
Unless they can sell the body parts for a huge profit, they aren't interested in keeping up their end of the contract.

It is absolutely disgusting, and baffling how this is even legal.

My 53year old daughter had a rare disease called Sjögren's syndrome she thought her body would be of use to science, so she signed up with Science Care about 15 years ago. When she died we contacted Sceince Care and they refused the donation because of "low body mass". I looked through the brochures she had from Science Care and did not find that qualification to a donation. I'm thankful that she was now with God and did not know of the denial. In my opinion there program is fraudulent. I'm destroying my donation card which she encouraged me to request.

Sjogren's syndrome is not rare. Almost everyone who has rheumatoid arthritis also has Sjogren's.

My experience with Science Care was very NEGATIVE !! My mother had picked this service for when she passed because her best friend had raved about how great a company they were. She asked me to check them out online & I did. I explained how the company worked & she decided not to use them. A year later my mom is in hospice & I am researching services & her friend tell me my mom had chosen Science care & that she was pre -registered. I don't know why SC has people fill out a registration because when your loved one passes & you call the number on the card they act like they have never heard of you & registration begins at that time. Now you have to round up next of kin & find witnesses as you fill out all these forms online!! It is TOTALLY ridiculous !! Why can't this be done ahead of time?? Also the people you talk to on the phone are not exactly a wealth of info!! When I called about getting a death certificate she told me the info I needed was on page 10 of the forms you filled out the night of your mom's passing. Give me a break....Cant you just explain it to me real quick on the phone?? Guess not... so I find the e.mail & follow the instructions taking a day off work to go to the l.a. county recorders office & come to find out that is not where you go for the death certificate in the first 6 months after the person has passed... you have to go to the office of vital records in downtown [redacted] !! This company is sub-par in dealing with people at a trying time like this & I would only recommend them if you had no money to have a loved one cremated!!

Worst experience our family has ever had. I am so sorry for your loss and I completely get it.

My wife and I both agreed to donate our bodies to science through this company and was registered on Dec. 20, 2011. My wife, [redacted] died on Feb. 7, 2014. I called and was told by female person that they weren't accepting bodies from my state, Mississippi. No reason why. This came as a cruel shock to me and my family. I want to know why and can they be punished for this. Thank you. [redacted]

If they can't make money, they don't want the body. They disguise it as "medical research" and how they provide a great service to the world, but they actually use the vulnerable time of death / grieving to make a profit. They do not care about what they promised your loved one- they care about what body part is selling for the highest price at the time they die. I am so sorry for your loss.

My brother passed away on 1/1/16. Around the middle of December (I think), I called Science Care and did the registration right over the phone. They were very helpful and answered all the questions I had. They said that when my brother passed, they would e-mail me some forms that had to be filled out and witnessed. This was done just as they said it would be. They made me feel comfortable and gave me a lot of support! They told me when I could pick up the death certificates and where. No problems! Since then, they have called me to see how I am doing. Awesome. I am thinking about doing this for myself when the time comes. Recommend? YES! Thank you Science Care.

Why did you only give them one star if their service was so great? I don't understand.
