Scott A. Dewey, CPA, P.A. Reviews (1)

I was billed once for services and then again for similar services. When I spoke with the owner, he repeatedly contradicted himself and was very rude.On the week of September 22nd, Scott's bookkeeper reviewed my [redacted] briefly and after I had already sent him my profit and loss statement. I met with Scott on September 30th for tax preparation services. I received an invoice mid-October for bookkeeping and tax preparation services for $58 which I paid. I received another invoice at the beginning of November for bookkeeping and tax preparation services for $66. When I asked what the invoice was, I was told the first one was for strictly bookkeeping services and the second was tax preparation. When I asked why both invoices had both services, Scott was very rude with me and demanded that I pay or he would send me to collections. I would have been happy to pay the difference if the billing times were off but he didn't say that there was any error on his side whatsoever and was very rude with how he treated me. Desired SettlementI would like to have my check refunded so we can go our separate ways. I think it would be acceptable for me to pay the $8 difference between the bills if Scott thought that was more fair and would help his business. Business Response My firm has been in existence since 1995. Since that time, we have not had many (if any)complaints that I am aware of. I think the client confusion comes in with how we bill. Per our billing policies, we bill each month for the services performed. Some of the clients bookkeeping was done in one month (1/2 hour) and the remainder the next month to finish it up (1/4 hour). In addition, the client came in for a tax projection and estimated quarterly payment consultation from the owner (which took 1/2 hour but he only charged for 15 minutes because he knew she was a new business). The fee is reasonable. The client says the owner was rude, here is the verbatim of the clients first e-mail regarding this matter- "I received an invoice for $66 of services that I did not receive. Additionally, it shows the the charges and amount paid for $58 of service last month. I will not be paying the $66 because I haven't received services this month. Please correct this for me." I do realize this amount is trivial, but for me, it is the principal. When my clients have a question about billing, the simply inquire. They don't start the communication off with I am not paying this bill. Consumer Response I am sorry for any rude emails that were sent my behalf, but I am very concerned with why I received this bill. The owner was saying that the services were rendered in separate months, but the bookkeeping was handled on the week of September 22nd and the appointment for tax preparation was September 30th. Additionally, an invoice was sent to me in early October and I promptly paid that amount due. The confusion for me is that a bill came in November, but no services were rendered in October. I am also confused with the contradictions in our emails about services preformed:"But generally the first bill was for the time Stewart spent on your bookkeeping-quickbooks and the current bill due was for my time for our meeting-tax projection-estimates." This would mean the first invoice would be strictly for bookkeeping and the second for tax preparations; however, both invoices had both services which is why it seems as though this company is trying to double bill me. I appreciate the discount given on behalf of Scott and would be happy to pay you for the full 30 minutes, but I don't want to be double billed. Final Business Response Our cutoff for billing was 9/27 for September so October included 9/28-10/31, thus the confusion about what month the work was done in. We try to cut off billing to include a full week in the last week of the month. That's why the 9/30 work was billed in October. She says she would be happy to pay for my full 30 minutes of my meeting but that would come out to more than I am billing her.
