The owner has a terrible attitude!!!

Review: On June *,2013, I brought my 1.9 carat, round diamond stone ring, in a setting done at [redacted] Jewelers about a year ago to replace a few small diamonds around my 1.9 carat stone, which had fallen out. It was taken and looked at, and I received a receipt indicating that the stones would be replaced and the ring would be cleaned and polished at no charge to myself.I returned, two weeks later to pick up the ring. I must add that I had not heard from them within this time period. When I returned, I was told by an employee of theirs, that the stones had not been replaced. The employee told and showed me my ring with a very large diagonal crack across my round stone, which was definitely not there when I brought the ring to the store. [redacted] was not there that day, but called me a day or two later saying that his jeweler, who was given the ring to be fixed, cleaned the ring first and then was able to see the crack. He told me that his jeweler put the ring aside and meant to show it to him, however, for some reason, he never did. [redacted] apologized by telling me that I should have been called, but that his jeweler was "an it." I quote him, only because many conversations have ensued since that day. [redacted] himself insists that I brought the ring in cracked, but couldn't see the crack because the ring was dirty. He also told me that in order for a crack like that to occur, the ring would have had to be banged very hard. Up until the day I brought the ring in, I had never banged my ring to cause that damage, and had I done that, I certainly would have known it and would definitely not have brought the ring to him, as I didn't buy the stone from his business.Desired Settlement: I feel that I definitely deserve a replacement stone, of a comparable size and quality. Thus far, and it is over two months since this occurred, [redacted] refuses to take any responsibility for the damage. He insists that his jeweler is innocent and that I brought the ring in with this large crack. As my ring is not insured at this time, I questioned [redacted] about the subject of insurance. He has quite a large store and business, but insists that he is only insured for theft and not damages.

Response:

To whom it may concern,

I personally spoke to my customer [redacted] and explained to her that I was out of my store for two weeks and that is why she did not receive a call sooner.

When we take in repairs my jeweler soaks and cleans all the jewelry before he does any repair to the item.

The reason is that if the item is dirty the heat from his torch will melt the dirt into the gold or diamond. When my jeweler cleaned the ring before he did anything to it he saw a large crack going across the diamond. He didn't do anything to it until he showed it to me.

I called [redacted] and explained what my jeweler saw in the diamond .Her response to me was that the diamond had not been cleaned for years and that it was very dirty.

My jeweler has been with me for years and is a very honest and hard working man. I asked him if he had done anything to the ring besides clean it. He said no .I then called [redacted] and told her I would send my jeweler for a polygraph test and I would spend the $400 to prove he was not lying. [redacted] told me not to .There were two small diamonds missing in the gold setting and there would be no reason for the jeweler to touch the center stone.

I have been in business for twenty three years and have satisfied 99.9 percent of my customers. [redacted] was highly recommended .[redacted] states that I have a large store and business, maybe that is why she thinks I should replace the stone. Any diamond can be cracked if hit hard enough. Her diamond was so dirty when she brought it in that you would not be able to see the damage and she told me that herself.

Thank you
