We received an estimate from Mr. W to install a wood privacy fence around our yard. Cedar was specifically requested. We were given an initial start date. When that date passed, we had to contact Mr. W on why the fence wasn't installed. We were told fence panels were on back order (through ***)(we were actually told twice panels were on back order). He told us he then ordered through *** and panels would be in the following Mon or Tues. He assured us it would be complete by Thurs. of that week. Panels were delivered early Tues. morning. A portion of the fence was installed that day, and he came back the next two days to finish. We got home Thurs. evening and my husband noticed that the fence was pine and not cedar. Mr. W then called my husband to ask about the fence. We told Mr. W that we were unhappy that the fence was pine and not cedar. He lied to my husband on the phone and told him it was cedar. My husband called him out on it and he admitted it was pine. Then, he was never going to tell us there was a price difference between the two, and was billing us for a cedar fence. My husband told asked him about a price difference. Only then did he agree to lower the bill. He had to come back 3 times to reset posts because they weren't setting. The posts are not even. Mr. W lied from the beginning as *** does not even cell cedar panels.I'm not sure what resolution should come from this. The fence is now installed. We were never asked if we were fine with a pine fence instead of a cedar fence. Mr. W was deceitful from the beginning. His business practices are shady and we will never recommend him to anyone.
During the Holiday week of Thanksgiving the customer Mr. B wanted a fence put up. I could not get the material due to back order. Unfortunately, due to the "high demand" of wood cypress panels after the hurricane, all fence cypress panels were on "back order" at ***. I spoke with Mr. B about the dilemma and told him we could either-- get the fence panel at*** OR I could refund 100% of his material deposit. I let him know we can get the material at*** Tuesday after Thanksgiving. He agreed. Mr. B asked for cypress and "not cedar" panels --which we DO NOT install cedar fence because it's extremely expensive. Mr. B agreed to the fence panels at***. We started the fence on time--Tuesday and finished the install on Thursday as promised to the customer. All post were dry packed with 25lbs of concrete per post but, with no rain and low ground moisture in the area at the time, the concrete had not set up. The customer requested we come back to add more concrete to the post. And we did-- "twice", we added 350 lbs of concrete between seven posts. There was no additional charge. I spoke with Mr. B via telephone assuring him post will set up and once again do not wiggle or shake post give it time to set up. As far as the fence, Mr. B was there the first evening of install with "NO complaints" on the material or installation. We did not even have a final bill invoiced yet when he accused us for over charging him for materials. We issued a "credit" for the price difference and told him several times if he was "unhappy" with the fence it could be removed and 100% of his money would be refunded. I do not understand why the customer after 2-3 months after completion of fence would start a complaint. (If we were trying to avoid the situation and take his money we would have never tried to the resolve the issues at hand.)
This is an unfortunate situation, and we have exhausted all avenues to please the customer and nothing seemed to satisfy him. In addition, we have never had any complaints on our fence material, craftsmanship or installation.
