Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive, Inc. Reviews (4)

I have a 1991 VW Westfalia, with a Tiico engine covnersion (water-cooled Jetta engine, installed "sideways").
About a week after getting it out of the shop after the new engine was installed, the the pipe that connects to the in-side of the muffler cracked through. I took it to Mesa Muffler and they welded it up. About a month later it cracked in the same place again, and they welded it again.
Later, when my girlfriend backed the muffler into a dirt bank, it cracked the pipe clean through in the same spot. So I took it to a [redacted] (was out of town - it was my only option), and they installed a new muffler. A few months later the pipe cracked in the original spot. I was back home then, so I took it to a different [redacted], and they welded it up, and added a new support bracket. That lasted a couple months, the the pipe cracked in the original spot, and the bracket they added also broke off.
Took it to a different [redacted], and they installed a new muffler / bracket assembly, for about $240.00. About 2 weeks later, the entire muffler fell off while I was driving down the highway. :)
So I googled "high performance muffler," and found Scottsdale muffler. Thank god. I spoke with [redacted] - gave him the whole story, and dropped it off. He called the next day to pick it up, and the bill was $180.00.
The new muffler / mounting hardware is absolutely a thing of beauty. They fabricated a big flat double-mounting bracket, which is rubber insulated. I could not recommend them more highly!

As an aerospace engineer, I will rate Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive A+++

After being 'Taken-To-The-Cleaners' on my 'collector car ' V-12 BMW Flagship Series' and my main vehicle, a 1993 Cadillac Sedan de Ville of the last 20 yrs and has been a completely dependable family car. After paying 5 times to get our family car pass emissions, I couldn't figure out as to 'Why my Cadillac passed every DMV emissions by at least half of the the 4-part DMV emissions and now had just failed 5 times. I took the Cadillac into Scottsdale Mufflers & Automotive and the manager, Chris, put it on an overhead lift and used the laser temperature sensor in front of the catalytic that showed no difference change on the 'IN' and Out' temperatures [in engineering, it is called 'Delta or change differential in which the catalytic converter = had Delta T=zero]. Chris showed me a generic converter for $87 and I was quoted $127 for the new pat and labor. I agreed and while standing below, his mechanic cut the exhaust pipe fore & aft, took the old converter and the new one placing the two side-by-side explaining that the platinum coated ceramic 'screen' in the new part was there and the old part had no material ceramic was total missing. He also noted and showed me sharp & deep hammer marks on the sides of the old part which shattered the glass-like ceramic that slows down the engine exhaust, thus a temperature caused by the catalyst which burns the remaining un-burned air-fuel mixture. The next day my Cadillac passed all four exhaust compounds with the lowest readings ever. The entire repair and technical briefing from start to finish was carried out within 15 minutes.

On my 1988 BMW 750iL V-12, Chris put in new Monroe front struts and 4 wheel alignment after purchasing new tires and OEM tie-rods and a complete set of parts from Germany. as well as muffler hangers, new driver's side actuator [door lock mechanism actuator, 4 new power window motors, guides, etc. I had yet to complete the systems and looked up a BMW certified shop and they had the the BMW 2 days. The so-called 'PhD of German car engineering, gave me and estimate [over $2,000] of getting the two front windows operational, plus 4 new window motors @ $285 each as well as writing up all of the front suspension forgings, 2 muffler hangers,a window actuator and more.I showed him an unopened plastic bag with one heavy suspension rod with a blue rubber/bushing that was not required. The owner (not named) got very nervous and started to show my 17 yr.old daughter a 2006 BMW 328i, which since we are all good friends lower the cost from $14,000 to $7,200, which excited her, thus avoiding a confrontation. My aerospace co-worker of many years has 6 BMWs and was the person that sold me the 750 last night and pointed out that the new Monroe struts, muffler hangers and who knows what else were tampered with.Today, I will bring my daughter's BMW to Chris at Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive to verify that the heavily black grease coated shocks that he put in, are missing and seek his advice on the two previous events. Apparently, here in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, this sort of story in automotive shops is running rampant and with the large percentage of seniors selecting this as a retirement destination they are the unknowing victims of all kinds of repair fraud. If it is possible, please send me any forms, booklets or advice as to how to file a complaint against the two automotive shops [I did not furnish their names or addresses because 'this is an endorsement' of Scottsdale Muffler & Automotive Service

which went way beyond the normal practices.

I fully recommend this shop!
