Dear Ms [redacted] :Below, please find my response to [redacted] 's complaint to the Revdex.com, ID # [redacted] :Ms [redacted] contracted my company to complete her basement in April We completed the plumbing work in AprilIn late September, Ms [redacted] called me about a leak in the basementUnfortunately, I was out of town at the timeShe insisted on calling a plumberI asked her to report back the plumber’s findingsShe called [redacted] , who told her that she needed emergency plumbing work totaling $21,and she signed off on it.On her estimate, [redacted] ’s recommendation was: "Camera Reveals Separations Sunken and Blocked in GarageAlso Pipe Size ReducedMrRooter demolished large portions of the floor and walls and dug out the garageThey completed the work before I returnedI took photos when I arrived [redacted] left the work I performed largely untouchedThough my company did move and replace Ms [redacted] ’s toilet, we did not change the existing drain. The portion of the work Ms [redacted] is asking me to pay for included replacing the stack and other old clay pipes that were completely outside the scope of work my company performedUpon inspection of the work, I determined that nothing my company did or did not do could have required such extensive demolition and repairRepresentatives of [redacted] attempted to pressure me to pay their billHowever, [redacted] was unable to tell me that the leak was my fault, and they certainly were unable to tell me that anything my company did required tearing apart the basement and re-plumbing most of the house. We are very sorry that Ms [redacted] had her new basement tom up and received a hefty billHowever, we can’t pay for something that we simply could not have caused. With respect to the insurance issue, we did have a lapse in our policy while our agent actively shopped for a new oneHowever, there was a policy in place at the time my company performed die work at issue.Sincerely,David C [redacted] Owner, SDC Remodeling

RevDex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. In reply, the plumbing work was not done in April by SDC Remodeling. Demo work started 4.16.15, then some framing that stopped where the laundry tub was. The laundry and piping started in May and lasted a couple of weeks. The wash tub leaked in mid June right away and again Aug 10th from my emails to David. Aug was when the toilet was moved; workers needed it until then per David C***. Per video and [redacted] , something about a pipe with a lip where it shouldn't be in regard to the toilet connection - I do have the video from them and they said they would be a witness to incorrect sewage work done by SDC Remodeling, David C [redacted] if I need them). The plumbers could not believe the shoddy work that SDC did and did feel he should pay to correct the situation. Pipe size was reduced to 3" through laundry room and basement by SDC.I didn't call the plumber with the first water that came in Sep 26th as I could not tell where it was coming from, did contact David. David C [redacted] asked about it Oct 7th when his electrician was working and he stopped by. I called him on Oct 17th when I saw it coming from under the baseboards. When I checked in the morning on the 18th it was coming in and I immediately called the plumber for a trouble shooter. The garage of $4,971.25 was not included in amount presented to SDC Remodeling of $16,350. It was necessary to take out the 3" pipes SDC installed to meet Allegheny County Code requirements that SDC did not follow and install required 4" pipes and air vents to prevent gas building up in the house that and causing illness (per Allegheny County inspector). I will again call Allegheny County tomorrow to get the name of the inspector and the problems they feel SDC's work could have caused.SCD Remodeling did cause the plumbing problems that also resulted in the flooring getting water soaked. [redacted] stated that he was not covered by insurance from early Sep until Nov. He was working in my house during this time.David C***'s letter to you does not offer any resolution for the sum of $24,600 paid to him on uncompleted job or the $16,350 incurred to correct his errors. Regards, [redacted]

Review: Hired SDC Remodeling LLC to do a basement remodel. Part of this contract involved moving the laundry facilities to a separate room. also moving existing toilet over and installing a sink. Contract stated all proper codes and regulations would be followed. They weren't followed. He did not have Allegheny County Health Inspector out to inspect his sewer work. The sewers backed up and water came in from the baseboard over the Prego flooring he had installed that crunched (not repaired/fixed). Advise contractor of water and that I was going to call a plumber. Called [redacted] for a trouble shooter to find out where the water was coming from. I did not realize that water also comes in under the flooring as well as on top - it was ruined. Turns out my contractor installed 3" sewer line instead of 4", pipe from toilet had a lip on it, no air vents installed. I had to pay $16,350 to correct his work. I called his insurance listed under PA contractors ([redacted])and was told it was cancelled, they sent contractor and myself a letter. Called contractor and he got back to me with [redacted] ###-###-####. Called him and he told me people think they can claim all kind of money, he has been in business ten years and it doesn't happen. He did not place a claim for me. Called my homeowners and my agent managed to get me a claim with [redacted]. Turns out today that he left his insurance lapse in early September and did not renew until November 2015. [redacted] Agent said documentation showed I would have had a claim, had the company been insured when the water came in.Desired Settlement: Refund the $24,600 that I paid this contractor and also pay the $16,350 that I had to pay [redacted].

Notify Allegheny County that he is not following their codes and regulations, notify the PA contractor's site that he did not have insurance while doing jobs.
