Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 6, 2015/08/10) */
Mr*** contacted me on July 31st and told me he had filled his cylinders of his cylinder out board engine with Sea Foam to remove carbonHe let the engine sit with the cylinders filled with Sea Foam for a period of timeHe then
drained any excess Sea Foam from the cylinders before reinstalling the spark plugsHe then started the engine ran for about seconds and the engine then died and would not restartHe then did a compression test and found the cylinders were low on compressionI told him that although this was not a recommended use for Sea Foam but it was common and a lot of people use the product in this manner to free up rusted engines and to remove carbonI had never gotten a complaint before that Sea Foam had caused any damage but I would be willing to send out an independent inspector to inspect the damage to MR> ***'s engine at no cost to him after the engine was disassembledMR*** then called me back on Monday August 3rd and informed me his engine was ready for inspectionI then submited an inspection request to *** (ISA)ISA sent and inspector out to MR***'s on 8/04/On August 6th I receved and inspection report back from ISAI reviewed the report and talked to MR*** on 8/and 8/to inform MR*** the inspector determined the damage in the engine was caused by detonation over a long period of time and Sea Foam was not the cause of his problem as stated in the inspection report submitted by ISA'S inspectorI shared the inspection report with MR*** and sent him a copy of the report via emailThe fact is that MR***s claims are not supported by the facts & pictures provided by ISAThis type of damage can not happen after soaking the cylinders filled with Sea Foam then drained and then run engine for secondsThis type of damage was cause from running the engine with a lean condition over a period of timeThe other thing to note is the carburetors were recently rebuilt and the damage to the engine most likely happened before the carburetors were rebuiltThe fact remains MR*** did not use the product in a way recommended by Sea Foam. Also the inspection was done by an independent inspection service not a Sea Foam inspector
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 8, 2015/08/11) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not accept seafoams response in this matterI have submitted proof that the engine ran perfectly fine before treating the engine with seafoamWhen it comes to the adjuster that came here to my house to inspect the engineHe absolutely told me that he knows nothing about mechanics and even less about outboard motorsHe said to me that he sends the pictures to seafoamIt isn't their job to determine what happened just the point of failureYou can look at the pictures taken by the inspector and tell that they don't know what they are talking aboutThe cylinders in question are and not and If they get something that simple wrong how can they determine that seafoam didn't cause the damageAnd if it was carb problems like seafoam claims then the damage would have been to the companion cylindersNot to cylinder on complete caddy corners to each other
Final Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2015/08/17) */
Attached you will find documentation from the inspection service(ISA) along with the Inspectors ASE Certification as a master technicianThe customer sent a video of the engine running but there is no way of knowing how old the video isAlso the customers boat was built for an inboard motor and was converted to be an outboardThe Fact still remains that the Sea Foam product(SF-16) can not cause detonation in an engine. This type of damage can not be caused in seconds of running timeDetonation of a piston can only be caused over a long period of time from a lean condition which either has to be a carburetor problem a vacuum leak or an ignition timing problem. This problem was a pre-existing condition that could not have caused by Sea FoamI too am an ASE certified technician with years of engine repair experience
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 14, 2015/08/19) */

This again is the first I have heard about this complaint. This is not a common problem that I hear about in customer service. Fouling spark plugs normally does not happen if the procedure is done correctly. I know the customer stated he watched many videos online but he does not specify where he...

saw these videos. There are a lot of videos on YouTube that are not correct information. None the less Sea Foam is willing to pay for his new spark plugs but would need the customer to contact me directly. I would need more information and proof of purchase along with the invoice for spark plug purchase but Sea Foam is willing to help this customer out. Contact Jim [redacted] technical director at Sea Foam Sales Company any time Monday- Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm central time @ ###-###-####. Jim [redacted] ASE Certified TechnicianSea Foam Sales Co.###-###-####
