We contracted with*** to paint the interior of his home and completed it on 4/26/2017. There was a single length of baseboard approximately 6 feet long that was not there when we painted. As a friendly courtesy I told Doug we would come and paint it when it was put in. A month or so passed and I was told that the baseboard was in. I scheduled one of my employees to go ahead and paint it for them. After my employee showed up he was told that it was not installed. I paid for the time my employee spent doing so. After even several months passed by I was notified by *** it was installed. When I showed up there was damage to the wall above the baseboard that was not there prior that needed repair and I repaired it, but by doing so could not paint the length of base. He proceeded to take me to different areas of the house and wanted me repair drywall damage where his thermostats had been changed, prime and paint a water stain in one of the bedrooms, prep and paint new crown mouldings and paint around tile that had been installed all after we had painted his house among other items that had nothing to do with our painting. I went ahead and did multiple patches on his walls until I realized to the full extent of what he expected for free of chatge. After a back and forth to which he grew aggitated and repeated he paid me x amount of dollars I became uncomfortable. Soon after this day he emailed me insisting that some of the new items he wanted done I had agreed to do while we were on the initial painting project in March 2017. I wrote back that I most certainly did not and was in fact pretty offended and upset with this whole thing. I paid a guy to go up there because they said it was ready and it wasn't and I personally went up and spent time patching his walls for free. I provided him with an equivalent if not more labor to equal painting 6 feet of baseboard. I felt it best that we just move on And I told him so in an email. We completed the paint job per the contract. It was not our fault that the baseboard wasn't in when we painted and made efforts to provide a courtesy free of charge. It was the owners efforts to get us to do things for free and growing uncomfortable with his aggressive disposition towards me personally when I refused to do extra work for him free of charge. Bottom line is there is nothing in my contract that says we are liable for painting walls, trim, doors or anything for that matter that is simply not there when we are present to paint a home. But if the homeowner can provide access to the home by a trusted party other than Doug himself I will paint this short piece of baseboard. But I am not comfortable with me or my workers interacting with Doug Adams.
