Seaside Vacations Reviews (%countItem)

Health concerns of a rental property rented via Seaside Vacations, LLC.

Our family rented a property that appeared to be clean and well kept based on the pictures that were used to advertise it online. It was anything but that. Multiple pictures of all concerns were supplied to owner.

Upon walking into the unit you are greeted by the foul stench of urine. There is mold in both bathrooms(in multiple places), rotted mold infused baseboards, thick build up of dirt and mold in every AC vent, electrical cords lying directly on the kitchen ceiling tiles. Dirty, fiberglass Insulation coming out of the ceiling tiles in the kitchen.

The vent in the twin bedroom drips dirty AC condensation on the person sleeping in that bed. Mold is visible inside and fully around that vent.
Because of the mold and sm in the bathtubs, we were forced to wear flip flops when showering. We also made our kids wear shoes as much as possible through out the unit because of the filthy carpets. The toilet in the main bedroom backed up with feces after use of the 2nd bathroom. There was bodily fluids on the side of the toilets as well.

Our daughter fell off one of the barstools because the bolts that secure it to the swivel top are missing. The brown recliner is broken as the articulating extension piece is bent beyond repair. Rugs are heavily stained through out the living area and twin bedroom. The refrigerator has mold IN the automatic ice tray which is the part that dispenses the ice used for drinking water.

These being some of the concerns brought to Seaside Vacations, LLC all of which we also supplied multiple pictures for every concern mentioned.

The agency is well aware of the state of unit stating that it's "in need of updating, and we've been working with the owners to make this happen, little by little."

After bringing these concerns to the agency we were met with resistance and blamed us as to what we could had done differently. Blatantly accusing us of going on this vacation just to get a refund.

Seaside Vacations Response • Sep 19, 2018

Here at Seaside, we pride ourselves on our personal attention, customer service, and responsiveness - our reviews and reputation show that we care deeply that our guests have a great experience. All guests are given our personal cell phone numbers and email, and we are available to them 24/7. Not only do they have our info, we ENCOURAGE them to reach out to us.

This guest, *** arrived at our Condo on August 26, 2018. As we always do, one of our staff reached out to him via Airbnb, which is how he booked, to see how things were going. We got no response. In our rental agreement, our email to the guest, and on the instructions IN the condo, it asks guests to please let us know upon arrival if anything at all is not to their satisfaction, and we will make it right, right away. We did not hear from these guests their entire stay, and they did not respond to our messages thru text or thru airbnb. When you book thru airbnb, they prefer for you to communicate with guests there, but we still reach out personally via text, as well. Our favorite part of what we do is interacting with out guests - please, check our reviews and you will see this!

They stayed, enjoyed their vacation, checked out, and waited an entire week to reach out to us. They did not communicate with us or airbnb about their dissatisfaction, or we would have addressed it immediately! I received a very nasty email a week later basically saying they didn't like it and demanded a full refund or they would begin a smear campaign of our business. Further research will show that we have ZERO negative reviews and are highly regarded by our clients. I asked the guest why they didn't reach out and give us a chance to address their concerns, and they had no response.

While this condo is older, it was professionally cleaned and inspected by us personally. It is a clean condo in an older building, at a very reasonable price, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. We have had 4 guests since this guest's stay, and all have left positive reviews and had no issues at all. I am not sure if this guest expected a *** condo for the price of a *** condo, but this is the impression I got. We left the guest an Amenity Bag filled with supplies for their stay, and our number was on and in there, as well.

When the guest continued to harass us, I reported this to airbnb, and was told the guest could not demand a refund this long after their stay, and that they had NOT filed a complaint with airbnb at all. I asked the guest to take the complaint there and let airbnb decide, and they refused, which shows me they had only the intention of enjoying their stay and then getting it for free.

This is no different than going to a restaurant, having the steak, going home, and calling a week later to say you didn't like it.

Fortunately, most people are honest and wonderful, and this is our first experience of this kind. We are hard working, honest business owners, and we need to be protected from actions such as this, as well. I, nor does airbnb, think that this guest is deserving of a refund. I did offer a *** refund with his first email, to cover the cleaning he wasn't happy with, but the guest refused it. We did our part, and did everything right in this situation. Had they reached out to us, we would have personally visited to address/verify their concerns, but they did not allow this or report anything during their stay.

I thank the Revdex.com for their consideration, and for also looking out for businesses that are being take advantage of, as well.

Customer Response • Sep 27, 2018

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
We are not satisfied by the statements made by Seaside Vacations LLC in response to our complaint. We are equally not surprised by the context of the rebuttal statement from Seaside Vacations. It very accurately reflects the defensive nature and lack of customer care they provided us.

As parents we decided it to be best to address the concerns with the "owners" upon our return home to prevent our kids being subject to the discussion while on our short vacation.
From the beginning of this ordeal we went to Elaine and Lance to address the mold, filth and code violations asking for a refund. Not a full refund as Elaine mentions but leaving it open to asking what they felt to be fair. Elaine never once showed concern to what we endured but rather provided continuous defensive responses as to what WE did wrong. We did nothing wrong but rent from what we thought to be the home owners of this property from reviewing the pictures and write up on Airbnb.

As our bi-directional communications progressed Elaine became more defensive and blatantly accused us of going on this vacation to simply get a refund. We continued to communicate via email to try to stress the condition of the unit but were met with accusations of harassment, extortion and even called predators. What company treats their customers like this? We were the ones that were mislead by their advertising. We were the ones who got stuck with an unpleasant, unhealthy product.

It is and has never been about the money. Seaside Vacations is providing false advertising as the product portrayed is not the product we paid for. Here is the link of the condo description with pictures currently being advertised on the internet. I have attached a collection of pictures we took of the actual unhealthy conditions of the property. Our main concern is that other unsuspecting families with young children do not fall for this type of false advertising.
We cannot put into words how BAD we are being treated as paying customers of Seaside Vacations. I've never experienced anything even close to this LACK of customer care.

We would also like to address the incorrect statements made by Elaine in her rebuttal to our Revdex.com complaint.

No one from her staff or Airbnb reached out to us upon our check in. We actually reached out to Elaines staff because 2 of the 3 keys were missing from the unit. We did not hear anything further from them the entire time.

We also did not wait an entire week to reach out to them - we reached out upon our very first day following our return of the vacation. We can provide the email to verify this.

We are NOT concerned to her ZERO negative reviews. The mold in this unit is what we are addressing. Perhaps the other properties are in much better shape which would of course provide positive reviews - what we stayed in is our concern and what is being addressed.

We question her comment that there have been 4 renters of this unit since our stay knowing the condition of the unit. We find this doubtful.

There was no "amenity bag" left unless that was the paper towel roll and toilet paper of which we only used the paper towels to disinfect when we arrived. The remainder of the "amenity bag" was left.

We assume that Elaines mention of us "harassing" her to be the emails addressing our concern to the mold in the unit. This is not harassment but feedback on their property. We did address it with Airbnb and upon their investigation they allowed our review to stand as accurate. So Elaines comment stating that she asked us to take our complaint to Airbnb but we failed to - is again totally inaccurate. This can be verified with Airbnb and also in the fact that they have allowed our review to stand.

Elaine did offer a *** cleaning fee. We are not interested in being refunded a "cleaning fee". As we stated to her, this is not a cleanliness concern. This unit should not be allowed to be rented due to the mold, filth and code violations.

As Elaine states this is their first negative review, well this is also our first negative review. Our nature is to leave positive reviews and if there is nothing positive to say, we don't comment. Although the unhealthy condition of this unit and the unresponsiveness to our actual concern brought forth is what has lead to our complaint to Revdex.com.

Please review the pictures we've attached to the pictures used by Seaside Vacations advertisement to determine the validity of our complaint. We believe you will feel as Airbnb did in stating that our complaint and feedback was warranted.

Seaside Vacations Response • Oct 10, 2018

We strive for customer satisfaction with every guest who stays with us. We DID reach out to this guest repeatedly thru airbnb, and he never responded. When a guest books with airbnb, airbnb is the merchant of record and ALL issues/complaints are to be filed with them.We are NOT required to provide our cell numbers, but we do anyway, to every guest. The guest not only never responded to our messages, he failed to file a complaint with airbnb about his stay at all! Airbnb informed me if he had, he would NOT have received a refund due to the fact that he waited too long. They also require that the guest reach out within a certain amount of time. Therefore, the guest not only violated our rental agreement by not reaching out, he violated theirs. This condo has been enjoyed by many, as the attached reviews show. ALL 3 of these reviews are from the consecutive 3 guests who stayed immediately after this guest. He seems to be the only one who has issue with the condo! We will NOT issue this guest a full refund. We never received a call or message from them regarding missing keys, either. There was one key in the lockbox and 2 in the condo - they were still there at their post-stay inspection. The amenity bag, which WAS there, included paper towels, 2 rolls of toilet paper, dish soap, a sponge, and coffee. This is a starter supply we provide as a courtesy to our guests, and yes, it was there. If airbnb deemed your complaint was warranted, WHY did you not file a complaint with them for a refund? Why did they not issue a refund? Airbnb has total control in this situation, and would not need our approval to issue you this refund. They would have done so already. This is our final response to this complaint - no refund will be issued in this situation. Thank you.
