This is a complete fallacyAfter an internal investigation and reaching out to the referenced Veterinarian this has been debunked as complete nonsenseWe have signed documents explaining both the process to follow for a suspected illness and
also that there are no "guarantees" with an adoptionWe have each adopter not only read and sign our contract but also a disclaimer"Kennel Cough" was not discussed by our staff member but our staff member did relay the fact that Domino had some upper respiratoryIn fact when staff tried to explain medical the complainant shut her down, made a comment about being a Vet Tech and refused to listen to our information/instructionsWe can not confirm nor deny that the complainant visited our shelterWe receive compliments on how clean our shelter is and how nice it smells on a weekly basis
We have an email from the complainant claiming Domino was extremely sick but could not find a Vet to go to over the weekendAEC (Animal Emergency Center) is hour on the weekends and there is an emergency contact number in the adoption packetTherefor there is no reason they had to wait till Monday
We work in conjunction with the Veterinarian that treated Domino on a regular basis and the statements made by the complainant were denied by VeterinarianWe work hard to make adoptions a win-win-win for the pet, adopter and shelterWhen we are attacked, called names, slandered, and condescended to it did not create an environment conducive to finding positive resolution
In response to "wow", "really", "did you just say that", "first of all" and "listen here", these are perfectly appropriate responses when you are being told lies, lied about, talked down to, and treated with disrespect from the get go
This is a case where the adopter believed they knew better and did things the way they wanted to without communicating with usTherefor per our contract and disclaimer, we will not be refunding anything to the adopter, nor will we be covering any medial, as specifically spelled out protocol was not followed

The Board of Director's of Second Chance were not made aware of the response that our Shelter Manager, Sean Popp, submitted in response to this complaint, though we were aware that he was monitoring the complaint
MrPopp is no longer with our organization, therefore we, the Board of Director's, are trying to play "catch up" to resolve this complaintMrPopp indicated that we were not interested in following a mediation path, but upon consideration by the Board, we would like to resolve this complaint as quickly as possible and take advantage of mediation
We are happy to submit the following documents if you do not have them on file
(1) Ms***'s Adoption Survey;
(2) The Second Chance Adoption Contract where Ms*** initialed beside the statements that are as follows:
"I understand that Second Chance animals come from varied backgrounds and that Second Chance makes no warranty as to pedigree, breed, disposition, history or health of this animal";
(3)"I have been advised to have this animal examined within days of this adoption by my veterinarian at my own expense, or by a veterinarian who donates his services to Second ChanceA list has been provided to me.";
(4) "If the veterinarian deems the animal is ill with a pre-existing condition within hours of adoption I must contact Second Chance immediately, before any treatment is doneOtherwise Second Chance WILL NOT be responsible for any medical expenses incurred;
(5) "I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A BINDING LEGAL CONTRACTI CERTIFY THAT I HAVE READ IT CAREFULLY, THAT I UNDERSTAND IT'S TERMS, AND THAT THIS CONTRACT EXPRESSES MY ENTIRE AGREEMENT WITH SECOND CHANCE."
The above statements were initialed by Ms*** and signed and dated at the bottom
Ms *** also signed and dated the "DISCLAIMER" form that is too long to include hereHowever, pertinent portions include:
(1) "Animals that are injured, sick, or have parasites are all treated, but there are problems that can occur in the future of any animal and Second Chance is not responsible for these problems"
(2) "...many diseases are in the incubating stage at the time of the testing and may be negative at the time of the test but can later be positiveit is also possible that the pet may contract the disease at their new home"
(3) she also agreed that: she understood the disclaimer and that Second Chance "has done everything that is reasonable to ensure the health of (the) new pet and does not hold Second Chance responsible for problems that occur after the pet is adoptedFurther, she agreed that she could return the pet to Second Chance for a full refund with in hours, or have the animal checked at no charge by the Second Chance veterinarian, Dr*** *** Also, "if my new pet becomes ill within hours of adoption (she) will notify Second Chance and have the Second Chance veterinarian look at my pet and make an evaluation at no chargeA list of these veterinarians has been provided to me at not chargeI understand I may be responsible for the treatment charge."
We do not have any comment on whether Ms*** visited our facility or not as we do not keep records of visitors, just persons who adoptThe Revdex.com is welcome to come to the facility at any time to inspect our shelter and shelter groundsWe are inspected regularly by the Health Department, OSHA and other health related agencies
Since we do not have any documentation from Ms*** on the Veterinarian that she presented the animal too, or a written statement from them, we are not able to comment on that accusation as well
We want to assure Ms*** and the Revdex.com that the health, safety and welfare of our dogs and cats is our 1st and only missionWe are a non-profit c(3) organization that receives no funding other than grants and donationsI apologize the Ms*** if any employee was rude or dismissive to herWe appreciate our clients and welcome their comments and would like to resolve this issue as soon as possible so that we can maintain the outstanding reputation that we have worked so hard to build
