Secure Dental Reviews (%countItem)

On October 21, 2019, I, *** went to my first dentist appointment at Secure Dental in Springfield, Illinois. I choose this location solely on the fact I was able to get an appointment and it’s location. I arrived at 11:45 for my noon appointment and was not brought back until 12:30. I was seen by a dental hygienist, who I asked if she would like to see my dental history from my former dentist. She told me it was not necessary, I recently moved to Springfield and choose to find a new dentist instead of the long drive back home to the one I have had for a while. The hygienist then left and came back to take a few x rays but it was not extensive and I was surprised but how fast it was over. She then left for a while and back to tell me that I had ten cavities. I was shocked to say the least, I had just seen my dentist in January and had no cavities. I explained to her my dental routine, which consists of scraping my tongue in the morning and at that, brushing my teeth more than twice a day with Sensitive tooth paste, flossing twice a day, and using a mouth rinse twice a day. I explained I am a healthy eater and stay away from Soda and sugars. She then told me it was probably because my mouth rinse was anti pact and not some other brand. I again asked if she wanted to see my old films because I struggled with cavities as a child. I was told no and the dentist finally came in, he only spoke to me less then three minutes. Which was only to point to my mouth and tell me where the films showed the cavities, he had me open my mouth and he glanced inside. Then told me I would need to make more appointments for fillings and left. The dental hygienist then proceeded to floss my teeth and brush them with plain tooth paste and gave me mouth wash and walked me out. That was the extent of my appointment, I definitely did not believe them so I was able to schedule an appointment with *** Dental in Springfield. There I had a three hour long exam and cleaning, I told the dentist about my prior experience just a week more and he told me I had no cavities at all. I am filing this grievance due to the fact a professional tried to tell me my mouth was in a bad condition and attempted to get me to return for more treatment that was not needed. I am also filing this because I believe Secure Dental wrongfully billed my Dental Insurance, ***. Please reach back out to me with any questions or concerns, I want to have this issue addressed.

Secure Dental Response • Jan 21, 2020

Hello,

Facts only, long Story short Secure Dental was her second opinion. Our Hygienist *** at the time Treatment Planned 8-10 cavities that were most likely premature like a spot /dot but it's recommended that we notify and advise in addition to not being satisfied with the cleaning provided. Patient went out and got a 3rd opinion from another provider's office advising of no cavities. Patient is complaining in regards to falsify billing which is absolutely incorrect, as per ledger we only billed out for Comp exam, x-rays & cleaning. Insurance out of network fee $354 and *** reimbursed $295.60. We wrote off $50 from her ledger which is now at " $0 zero balance".

Please let us know if you need anything else!

Thank you!

I am rejecting this response because:

I am rejecting the statement that this was my second opinion, when this was my six month check in. My last appointment was in January which my insurance records can prove that fact. The visit to the dentist after Secure was to get a second opinion on the amount of supposed cavities. To which they found only a possible spot, I have no issue providing my dental records from my appointment in January 2019, and the the one from my second opinion. Being told I had an extreme amount of cavities was unnerving, I do not take my medical issues lightly and was within my right to have it verified. I was not advised at secure it may just be spots, I was told it was in fact cavities and was given a lecture about how my mouth waste may have been the problem, is that the “oral hygiene instructions” my insurance was billed? I did not mind paying the $50, I had a service done. I have issues with my insurance being billed for something I feel did not happen such as the “Comprehensive evaluation”, if it had been done this would not have been a problem and had the dentist seen me for more than the quick time he was in the room. This is not my attempt to get out of a payment or be a rude annoying customer. This is me being concerned that an unnecessary medical procedure could have been performed on many of my healthy teeth. Please understand where I am coming from, I am sure there are people happy and satisfied with secure but I am not one of those people, I was left deeply unnerved about my teeth until I had my second opinion. I appreciate what secure has done so far in regards to this complaint but again this is just more than money for me. Thank you. I can provide the bill from Secure.
