They were using my monthly payments to pay late fees first instead of my installment.Making my account get further and further behind w/o my knowledgeI had 2 accounts with them. I was making weekly payments on both accounts with it being noted on my checks that the payment was for 1 payment on each. They at times would apply the whole payment to 1 account making 1 paid ahead and the other account being behind. Then they would use my payment to pay towards a late fee instead of my loan payment making my account fall further and further behind with more and more late fees. The late fee was $25.00 each time. Then they did not notify me regarding the late fees instead would just send statements showing the account past due. So basically 1 late payment resulted in me paying $50 a month in late fees instead of toward my payments. Which resulted in more and more late fees and more and more interest. If they had just left the late fees owing I would have only owed one or two, which I would have paid when we paid off the loan. When we went to payoff loan today and a $340 loan jumped $36.00 in 2 days we started questioning them. At first we were told it was interest, then said they had added another late fee in the last 3 days, which if they had told me on Friday when I told them I would be in to payoff account on Tuesday, I would have paid more on the account on Friday to keep from doing that. The loan officer became irate when we told them we did not appreciate the way they did business. We originally got behind when my husband was hurt at work and even though we had purchased disability insurance we could never get them to pay, basically because my husband was released from the doctor to go back on light duty but his employer did not have any light duty work so he was out of work and the insurance would not pay. We felt like the insurance was misrepresented to us when we purchased it. We feel behind on the original loans and then refinanced to get back on track so basically we paid interest on the original late fees too. This loan officer was very rude at the time I went to try to work this out and I seriously thought about filing bankruptcy instead just because of him. When we went to payoff this loan The loan officer and my husband exchanged some heated words and the loan officer, Alfred, came out from behind the counter and threatened my husband, even going so far as to say I know where you live. I find it hard to believe that a professional loan officer would act in such away, he kept escalating the situation instead of trying to resolve it. Eventually the Operations Manager stepped in and we were able to get the matter resolved calmly and quietly, but the issue still remains of the additional money we paid in late fees because they were applying my payments to late fees first and my payments second. The loan officer "Alfred" said this is common practice but I have never had another loan that has done this, the late fee will sit there for however long it takes me to catch it up.
