Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because:1) it is understood MAJOR engine work was done on my vehicle with INCOMPLETE satisfactory results.2) Bavarian Motors REFUSES to work on my car any further.3) Costs for repairs would suggest a NEW Engine, but with a stipulation of having the Engine WARNING Light still on.4) Before any FURTHER DECEPTION is in involved such as DISCONNECTING the Warning Light altogether to suggest problem is fixed, Mr [redacted] needs to make arrangement to PAY ME for vehicle title since he is so confident in his work! The customer had his vehicle towed to me on November 6th from another shopI was informed at that time that the previous shop had found timing codes and that the vehicle wasn’t runningInitial inspection of the vehicle found that the engine was barely running, with massive misfire issues
throughout all cylinders as well as camshaft to crankshaft timing correlation codes.After a full diagnosis I found low compression equally on all cylinders, and no sign of any physical contact internally in the engine by using a borescope. I explained to the customer that these engines have had a known issue of timing guides and gears failing, causing timing issuesFurther explaining to the customer that we would have to remove and replace the entire timing system to fix the issue. My initial estimate was approximately $4,to replace all timing components. At this time, I had a long conversation with the customer explaining that this vehicle was not worth putting this type of money into as this repair was worth almost as much as good condition Eurovans at this mileage were currently selling for onlineI also acknowledged that when I opened the vehicle up I could easily find more issues.When I started the repair I found that there was more problems than were apparent. The camshaft bridge was damaged and that part alone runs 972. There is an internal screen that was torn and destroyed and is not serviceable which means the entire part needed to be replaced. I had another conversation at this time, with the owner, and he agreed to installing the camshaft bridge and continuing with the repair. When I removed the oil pan to do the lower timing components and to make sure none of the broken parts from the timing were still present in the oil pan I found the primary reason for the timing failure. The oil in the pan was the consistency of room temperature chocolate puddingAt this point, it was clear the oil had not been changed in at a minimum 50,miles. I called the customer again at this point and explained what I had found and that I would need to replace the oil pump and pick up tube to make sure that there was nothing damaged internally. This raised the cost of repairs to 6500. I had at this point not installed any parts and everything was returnable. I again asked him if he was sure he wanted to move forward and he gave his consent to continue the repair.When the vehicle was completed I called him after driving it approximately miles to confirm that everything was operating correctly. The check engine light was on, but there were no drivability issues at this time. The vehicle started, idled, and drove with no issues. When I contacted the customer at this point, the customer claimed that I had not stated to him the cost of the parts and labor done to the vehicleAt this time he told me there was no way he was going to pay for the work completed; since the repair was worth more than the vehicle’s worth. A few weeks later the customer showed up with temporary tags for his vehicle but again refused to make any payment towards the repairs or to try to negotiate any payment plan. Since that time the customer has not made any attempt to contact me or the business to arrange any payments or to attempt to make good on his billI am not holding his vehicle hostage, I am waiting on payment, not only for the labor done to this vehicle, also the parts ordered from his personal consentI would at this point be willing to accept the title from the customer and an additional 2,dollars to cover the bill. Initially this customer did not come to the shop for an engine check light, he came to us for all of the reasons listed aboveThe engine check light is not an outcome of the work performed, but from the state of the vehicle when it came to the shop and due to years of lacking any maintenance
