Review: A summary of my complaint:Select Carpet and Floors installed laminated flooring in the basement of [redacted], VA [redacted] on December 13, 2013 with a 1 year warranty on installation. Mr. N[redacted], the manager of Select Carpet and Floors, refuses to repair the floor that has buckled even though the installation is still under warranty.A history of our dealings with Mr. N[redacted]:In early October 2013, the current owner of the home had agreed to sell the house to me. A few days later, she decided to put in new flooring in the basement as a kindness to me; for that reason she asked me to be present on Oct. 24, 2013 when she contracted Mr. N[redacted] to put in the new flooring. During that agreement, Mr. N[redacted] understood that I was to be the new owner of the house and he was perfectly clear that, ultimately, I was going to be the beneficiary of the installation warranty he was guaranteeing. I bought the house on December 17, 2013, just a few days after the floor was installed. In April 2014, we complained to Mr. N[redacted] that the floor was buckling. He honored the warranty and sent an installer who said the floor was laid too tightly. He proceeded to trim 1/4 inch off all of the edges to release the pressure.The problem returned within weeks and in May we again complained to Mr. N[redacted]. Again, he honored the warranty and this time he came personally to see the problem. His opinion was that the problem was being caused by humidity and that we shouldn't worry because it would correct itself in the coming months. I trusted his opinion because, after all, he is the expert, but couldn't help but think that he should have measured for humidity BEFORE selling us his product and given us advice as to the convenience of using laminate in that area.On October 8, 2014, I again called Mr. N[redacted] to tell him that the floor was so badly buckled that it was hazardous. I had tripped and almost fallen. To my surprise, this time, he denied his responsibility. His FIRST argument to deny his responsibility was that the warranty had expired: he said the floor had been installed over a year ago and that he had the Invoice to prove it; he added that he could send me a man who could try to fix it for $450. After this answer, I immediately contacted the original owner. She sent me the Invoice and a copy of her cancelled check dated Dec. 13, 2013. Now, with the proof in my hands, I called Mr. N[redacted] on October 9th and told him I had a copy of the Invoice to prove that the floor was installed in December 2013 and that it was still under warranty. He couldn't deny my facts.Then he changed to his SECOND argument to deny his responsibility: because the house had been sold, the installation was no longer under warranty. Obviously he had decided to forget about what he had agreed to on Oct. 24, 2013, that I would be the ultimate beneficiary of the installation warranty. He argued that the time he sent someone to fix the floor and the time he came himself to see the problem, had been "as a courtesy", not because it was under warranty. He added that if I wanted the floor repaired, he could send me someone and I could settle on a price with him directly; that he (Mr. N[redacted]) didn't want any more money. Suddenly he seemed to be changing opinion and he asked me to send him photos of the floor. I did so on Oct. 14th. He has not responded to my e-mail.Desired Settlement: I want Select Carpet and Floors to honor immediately the labor warranty that came with the purchase and installation of the floor and therefore, eliminate the buckling in the floor at no expense to me.
