Complaint
We had a lightion claim to siding and A/C compressor . The adjuster for the siding was ok and respectful . However his estimate was very low .
Ths consultant for the A/C compressor was rude and disrespectful . In addition he suggested we replace the A/C condenser on the BLACK market . They are no longer used by the current contractors . I requested a contractor to repair from the insurance company and the Insurance company did not respond . This consultant acted as a HIT MAN from the carrier . He is paid by the carrier to reduce estimates for the carrier !

Selective Insurance Company of America

It appears that Having business Insurance these days is a joke. I had some equipment stolen from me and the insurance company had to pay out, this was at no fault of mine, then we had a very small claim on damages to a property which was an unforeseeable accident, today I get a certified letter stating my insurance premium will increase 332%!! So it seems that this company wants to collect all the money they paid out. REALLY! This company is a joke and I encourage anyone looking to be insured with them to be cautious and read policy disclaimers. Why should I be penalized for things out of my control.

This company is highly unprofessional. Though their correspondence states to "please contact us if you have any information that is contrary to that expressed, or if you have any questions, comments or objections, to please contact the undersigned", undersigned being the agent assigned to handle your insurance claim, good luck in ever getting anyone to return your phone calls or emails.

I waited over one month for Todd Shaefer (the person who answers many of these complaints) and is Selective's own Field Supervisor, to contact me because the agent purportedly handling my case failed to do so. I finally resorted to getting in touch with him via a completely different department- and only then was I able to get the ball somewhat rolling again. Yes. They are THAT bad. They grossly low-ball their settlement offers, even after providing multiple repair bids (not estimates, firm BIDS).

Selective will leave you in a lurch, having to fork out several thousand more dollars to have issues addressed that were caused by their insured. Dealing with Selective Insurance and MUSIC has been nothing short of frustrating. This is the insurance business, folks. It's hard to believe the people participating in and running this firm sleep at night as they willfully cheat people out of fair settlements with zero disregard. All I can say is, next time I hope the damaged party is YOU so you can get a whiff of your own medicine.

Selective Insurance Co. failed to pay for the total amount of the estimate, beware and DON"T SIGN the release form till the vehicles repairs are complete. That's one way they will get you!!!!!

Review: Selective Insurance has been very slow to respond to my health issues (claim #[redacted]). I slipped on the ice at work & tore all the tendons & ligaments in my ankle. The first surgery was not successful. They took weeks finding a Doctor of their choice; my ankle was black & swollen. Walking was very painful & difficult. They have hindered my recovery by not approving the second opinion in a timely fashion. After the second surgery, the doctor would prescribe therapy between my monthly visits to him in Indianapolis, I would end up not going to 3 to 4 of them because of their delay in approving them. The first 3 or 4 visits to the doctor (which was a round trip of 328.3 miles each time) I was not allowed to drive. They only paid standard mileage at $ .44 a mile as if I drove myself. They would not compensate my driver. The payments they did make were weeks late. I went to the doctor this June 24th & have sent them 4 e-mails & as of yet they have not paid me or answered any e-mails.Desired Settlement: Pay my outstanding trip to Indy 6/24/13 & compensate my driver for 8 hours per trip trips.

Review: selective insurance policy holder hit my parked vehicle. body shop estimate was approximately $1700, my insurance company's estimate was also approximately $1700, selective's estimate was approximately $1100 with refusal to provide a supplemental to the body shop for the difference in damages. I am the claimant, not the one responsible for the damage. They failed to provide complaint information for their company as well. Very uncooperative.Desired Settlement: repair my vehicle to its original condition as per two outside estimates.

Selective is on my list of DO NOT THINK OF DOING BUSINESS WITH COMPANIES WHO HIDDEN FEES ARE BROUGHT OUT WHEN YOU ARE CANCELLING THEIR SERVICE. Make sure if you plan to deal with Selective you DEMAND (in the beginning) they discuss with you their hidden fees; "just in case" if and when you might decide some other company can offer better services that will fit your family’s financial needs. Long story short, I owe X amount of dollars because I found cheaper insurance for me and my family.

This insurance company is the worst in providing any kind of resolution or decent customer care. They do not call you back unless you ask to speak to a supervisor. They fail to answer questions or follow through with information about a valid claim. They want you to get tired and give up. They have been involved in insurance fraud and covering up accidents.

Review: One of Selective's client was involved in an accident with my car. During repair, they pay for a certain amount of time. The repair job took more time than expected. The shop called them and informed me that Selective agreed to pay for the extended time. To my surprise, a month after the rental company called to tell me selective refused to pay for the extended time.Desired Settlement: they have a responsibility to pay the money to the rental company

Business

Response:

Revdex.com of New Jersey complaint [redacted] - Selective was incontact with [redacted] regarding this matter and informed him that Selectivewould only pay for the car rental until June 27, 2014. This was five moredays than originally authorized due to the body shop’s delay in repairing **.[redacted]’ vehicle. It seems that the body shop incorrectly advised **. [redacted]that Selective would pay for the additional rental time, even though the bodyshop was also informed that Selective would only pay for the rental until June27, 2014. Selective recommended to [redacted] to discuss this matterwith the body shop and seek his out of pocket expenses from the body shopbecause of its delay in repairing the vehicle.

Review: My vehicle was involved in an accident with an individual who was insured through Selective Insurance. Selective accepted liability as my vehicle was parked and unoccupied when it was hit. Rather than subrogate the claim through my insurance company and come out of pocket with the deductible and wait to be reimbursed, I proceeded with the claim through Selective. I have [redacted]. The adjuster sent by Selective only wrote for the front and back bumpers to be replaced. When I pointed out the damage to the grill the adjuster said he could not write for it because he would have to open to hood to assess the damage and he was not willing to open the hood at that time. He told me to have the repair facility supplement the claim and wrote the check for the two bumpers. The repair facility attempted to supplement the grill for repair and Selective refused to cover it. I contacted my insurance company per the request of the repair facility, #1 [redacted], and [redacted]'s adjuster stated that the grills should be covered as they were damaged in the accident however the total for the grills did not exceed my deductible, and since [redacted] was unable to pay on the claim they were unable to pursue subrogation against Selective. So now if I want my car fixed all the way I would have to pay out of pocket and there are no guarantees that Selective will pay without me having to take them to court. The accident was clearly Selective's insured fault and now my car is being returned to me no fixed completely unless I fork out more money to sue them which is not the way the practice should be run as they should pay to have all the damage fixed without the need for a lawsuit and me to pay out of pocket to have it fixed first.Desired Settlement: At this point I want my car repairs to be paid for up front, and I think financial compensation is in order due to the unnecessary hassle of it all.
