Our windows exploded out of our house. We built our house in 1993. The company sent us out some replacements to install at our expense. The remaining windows like everyone else had a rep come out and drill a hole to pump them with air. We are not happy with the windows. I would think the company would replace the exploding windows with new complete windows instead of pumping them with air and loosing the R value.

My house was built in 1994 for us and the builder used Semco windows! Several years ago they came through with contractors hired by Semco and drilled small holes in all of the windows due to some vacuum issue between the panes of glass and left. Several of our windows had already exploded by then and Semco sent me three replacement panes for me to have installed at several hundred dollars apiece! Now all of my windows are leaking moisture and air while showing mold and wood rot on the inside of the windows. Three of our windows including two that were replaced when they came and drilled the holes in all of them have exploded cracking the inside panes on two of them and the outside pane on the other. Every window in our home including the 6' slider leaks air and moisture. All of them sweat like crazy and are showing wood rot and mold. Almost all of the ones there drilled to relieve the pressure are showing condensation and/or mold between the two panes of glass! Who recourse do I have this company and their very poor quality windows? To top it off my wife has developed asthma and it appears the mold in and on our windows is a causative factor in her illness!

I had semco double hung windows put in my home that we built in 2000. 6 years ago the storm windom from my sons second floor bedroom randomly fell to the ground in the middle of the night, shatteriing and also breaking the window below on the first floor. After further inspection we realized this was due to complete rotting of the wooden exterior sash. Since then, every other window has begun rotting, all to different degrees. Many to the point of completely falling apart. I was told by the local window companies that this was a common problem with ALL Semco windows installed in this area and that Semco refused to take any responsibility even though they were made aware of the issue and that is it was clearly attributed to the poor manufacturing and design of the product. To which turn they actually stopped making them, but still refuse to replace the effected windows. I tried numerous times to contact the company with no success. Very frustrated and very expensive to have to replace on our own. I highly recommend that NO ONE buy any of their products if this is how they stand by them!

Review: I have been trying to have warranty repairs performed since Sept, 2012. Semco sent a rep out, which they made me pay a "travel fee", who found warranty covered issues but as of today, July 17, 2013, he has yet to submit a claim to Semco. Dispute many written communications they have done nothing to resolve the issue. The last I heard, and once again no response was made, was why I was given price quotes on the covered warranty items. This was not labor or the so called travel, this was for the warranty covered items. They failed to respond to any inquiries until I mentioned the Revdex.com but since then they have been silent once again.

Please help. From what I read I am one of many with similar problems. I wish I had read the complaints earlier.

Thanks.

Response:

I looked into complaint ID [redacted] that was submitted 7/17/13 by [redacted]. We have a list of parts that are needed to repair the windows.

It appears the windows were manufactured in 2005 and therefore the parts

will be shipped to our dealer in Asheville, NC at no charge. However,

the labor to repair the windows is not covered by our warranty. There

has been some delay in processing the order due to our request for more

information in order to furnish the correct material. I believe those

issues have been resolved. Mr. [redacted] has been working with [redacted] at

Carolina Door & Window Specialist. We will ship the replacement

material to our dealer in [redacted] can schedule and

appointment once the material has delivered.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

[To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.]

Regards,

Shipping the parts to their unresponsive dealer does not resolve the complaint. The defective material needs to be installed. It took their dealer ten months or more to place the order for the replacement parts. How long will it be before he installs the parts?

For the record, the only issue, which may have caused a 30 day delay in this process, was Semco's inability to find the original order. Keep in mind these are custom made windows that were designed by a Semco representative, not by me or my builder. This is also the second warranty claim on these windows so I would have to question this "issue".

In the meantime there are two new warranty issues. The seal on the transom window, over the only metal door in the original order, has failed and one of the casement windows will no longer close. I would also like a second opinion regarding the wood rot on my balcony doors. After reading many of the Semco Window and Door complaints it seems wood rot is a major complaint against their products. I feel these two doors should be replaced under the Semco warranty.

I would also like to see what parts make up this order so I have some assurance that everything is being repaired in one trip since as Semco correctly states I am paying for the labor.

Thank you,

Business

Response:

I e-mailed an acknowledgement to the homeowner 8/6/13 for the

replacement parts order as he requested. This order does not include the

two new warranty issues mentioned in his message dated 7/31/13. The

replacement parts order was based on information from a window repair

person in his area and a previous replacement order from May of 2008.

Review: The SEMCO Windows installed in my new home purchased in 2000 have defects that started when new culminating in the severe defects seen today. These fdefects required replacement of a 5 large windows to date and will likely require another 7 or more replacements. To date I have spent in excess of $24000 on replacement / repair work due to these defects. This manufacturing defect is and was well known to the SEMCO company, service provider and sellers of the product. Based on discussion with SEMCO sellers / service this is a well know failure mode for these windows. The failures have cause significant damage including mold, wood rot and window failure. All things which would not or should not be expected for new window product. Pictures of the failures will be available shortly at a new website, facebook or other public internet locations.Desired Settlement: Outcome to reimburse the cost of windows and labor spent to date and furnishing replacements for all other windows. In addition provide all know fixes or service to insure the new windows will not fail in the future.

[redacted],

Review: the Semco windows have very bad quality. my house installed their windows in 1992. in 2004 several of their windows rotten and then we paid for replacements. now the replaced windows rotten again in less than 10 years. I tried to find the company did the work for me but they might be out of business. according to their warranty, it should be covered but Semco denied. they sent inspector twice but could not figured it out when the windows were made due to unclear marks on windows. the inspector based on age of my house guessed the windows were made in 1992. they also said that the new style windows came to market in 2005. even the windows were made before 2005 it still does not mean my windows were installed in 1992. I communicated with them in more than ONE year but still cannot get the problem solved. very very frustrated. I searched on internet and found that there are many complaints about their windows but they just don't care their quality.Desired Settlement: replace the rotten windows
