Court ordered services can be many things: individual counseling, parental facilitation, parent & child reunification counselingAt times, multiple professionals involved to help the client, usually a childIt is imperative, and at times court ordered, that the professionals collaborate- all
to benefit the childThe court does not order the fees of the counselor, it orders the percentage each client or client’s parent(s) to pay the fee(s)There are fees that are at times discussed within the court order at the client’s parent(s) specific requestHowever, there are certain fees, such as collaboration with other professionals, writing reports, going to court, that are not usually within the court order. In response to the specific allegation, a client disagreed that time spent collaborating with other professionals or writing reports is not an acceptable chargeThis client also disagreed with paying for time spent on phone calls and textsAll the above takes precious time away from other clients in need and indeed warranted charges. Again, in response to this specific allegation, this client states he was unaware, so I did give him a discount, to which he continued to still not want to pay, even after all the above was vehemently discussed verbally and through text; he had previously refused to sign any documents and I did not attempt again, and thought it was understoodA letter was sent out explaining the fees, to which thereafter he did understand them and more fees incurred, which he is still unwilling to pay.I did not suspend the client’s parent’s visitationI did not suspend the client’s parent’s visitation for not paying for feesThis parent received a letter explaining his visitation suspension was due to his behavior, almost all during his visitation time with the child; nothing to do with fees at allThis parent has been given multiple opportunities to address behavior and move forward so that visitation could continue.Everything I do is in the best interest of my client’s, usually childrenThese children cannot speak for themselves, so I attempt to be their voice and their advocate with the courtsI do not charge for anything that is unwarranted and I try to be as fair as possibleUnfortunately, when the focus switches to money, and not what is best for the child, I cannot continue services with said parentThe fees for services still stands and is valid, and the discount still is given, as I had previously told the parent
