Purchased an advertised universal table for Janome embroidery machine. Dealer/owner stated that table would work for this machine. Purchased on 3/1/2014 from Sew Unique an advertised Janome Universal Table (XXXXXXXXX) as Mother's Day gift for $299.50 plus tax with a [redacted] credit card. Original price is $600. I specifically told Dealer/owner ([redacted]) that I was interested in purchasing table for the Janome **XXXXX** Embroidery machine. I stated that machine is used soley for embroidery, not sewing. [redacted] initially stated that table would not work with **XXXXX** so I asked her why her online ad and instore ad listed this machine. She acted surprised and then stated that table would accomodate Janome **XXXXX**. I assembled the table on 24MAY14 and realized that even with modifications, the table would not allow the embroidery machine to operate. Sitting in the recessed area, the embroidery arm is blocked from extending. If raising the machine to clear arm, the input (USB ports and foot control jack) area is blocked. On 28MAY14 at 13:58 hours, I talked with [redacted] and explained that the recessed table was not working for the Janome **XXXXX** and that I would like to return it. [redacted] stated that she would not allow a return. For more than six minutes, I stated that she had not truthfully advertised or sold this product as I had explicitly stated that I planned to use it for an embroidery machine. Janome website [redacted] lists this table as an accessory for this machine. Nowhere does it state that the machine can only be used in the sewing mode for this table. I called the Janome customer service center, [redacted] to determine what options I have. Customer service rep ([redacted]) stated that they are only a distributor and they had not sold the product and I would have to work it out with the dealer, Sew Unique. [redacted] continued that whatever miscommunication happened, I (customer) had not asked the right questions. When I questioned how I should have known this table would not work for embroidery machine,[redacted] stated that dealer is trained on all products and should have informed me. She stated that it is a 'buyer beware' situation. I called [redacted]/ Sew Unique again to see if she would reconsider a refund. She also stated that it is a buyer beware situation. The receipt (as I questioned on day of purchase) does not have the correct store information (show [redacted] location no longer in business), lists another customer name and information and shows that I purchased with cash. Statement at bottom: 'Return policy - No refunds on fabric, trims, books, patterns, software embroidery designs or machines. Return notions unopened and sealed in original packaging with sales receipt within 5 days for refund.'Desired SettlementI am seeking a full refund - $299.50 + 6.75% tax.On 28MAY, I would have considered store credit but now have no desire or intent to do future business with this establishment. At that time I would have explained that the advantage of the tables with the recessed platform is that they provide a flat SEWING surface for the listed Janome machines, which we verified included the Janome **XXXXX** by reading the Janome literature before she made her purchase. We have been selling sewing furniture for many years, and I always give customers the same explanation of benefits, and my husband remembered me providing the same explanation in this case. We even discussed which insert was for her machine, and that it went around the free arm of the machine when sewing. I do not recall the customer saying that the machine is only used for embroidery, or I would have clarified that for her. Janome's website describes this table for sewing as "The Universal Sewing Table is the perfect foundation for your sewing machine".Our return policy as clearly stated on the receipt is: "No returns on fabric, trims, books, patterns, software, embroidery designs, or machines. Return notions unopened and sealed in original packaging, with sales receipt within 5 days for refund." Since this was purchased on March 1, 2014, almost 90 days later, it is not eligible for a refund. I inadvertently selected the wrong customer name (same last name) for the POS receipt, but that does not negate the key information on the receipt: Sew Unique, date of purchase, purchase detail, and return policy. In our last conversation on May 28, I had offered to do an even exchange for a flat surface table, but since this was unacceptable to the customer, I have withdrawn that offer. The customer purchased a table that performs as advertised for her machine.
