Shoddy work, rude customer service, when came to repair work more shoddy work, intimidation
In *** Sewell was hired to do landscaping, build pergola, and deck I had to oversee the projects as he seemed to not know the plan, this irritated him and he made rude comments to me I was extremely overcharged for pergolaHis sub who did the deck has not been paid and told me when he asked for money to buy the lumber he was given an insufficient amount and so bought sub-prime lumber and deck is a mess (I am not seeking to besmirch the sub)Sewell was rude and intimidating during the whole process He insisted on being paid second half after pergola finished in the night, cold and rain Would not let me wait to view the pergola in the daylight and insisted on payment The beginning work on the pergola not done to my liking and when I said so, he came back with more rude comments and said "that is how it is supposed to look" I felt intimidated by him through the whole process and

We needed an emergency fix to a three-foot retaining wall John was very responsive and came out immediately to give us a bid His workmanship was exceptional, the cost was reasonable and the work was done as promised and on time We are very pleased wth his professionalism, and this small business Thank you Mr Sewell

When we met John Sewell, with Sewell Landscaping & Holiday Lighting, Inc, he had come to our home to give us an estimate to replace two retaining wallsOne small in the front of our house next to the driveway & one large in the back next to the patioHe gave an estimate of $which we agreed onHe stated he would email a contract for us to signWhen we received the contract the price was $I asked why & he said he forgot about taxes & sod/sprinkler repairI asked why repair was on the invoice & he stated that his machines would ruin the grass & possibly the sprinklersI was confused as to why we would have to pay for repairs that his machine would damageSince the increase was $more than quoted I asked if he would meet in the middle & take $offHe did agree, but I was still very confused
He stated he would be using a skid loader for the blocks taken to the backFrom our driveway to the space where the wall was being built was no more than feetUsing a skid loader was unnecessaryI spoke to other contractors & they agreedThey each told me a small buggy would sufficeI asked John to use a buggy & not the skid loader so our grass & our neighbors grass between the two houses would not be destroyedHe ignored my requestAfter the first day of work we contacted him right away because the two lawns were destroyedHe very rudely shot back with, "This is how construction works"He has a way of trying to bully people into things with the way he speaks to youMy husband & I both try to avoid confrontation at all costs until we are pushed too farWhen the walls were completed we did not like the lookThe actual wall portion looks very nice, however, the steps going down on the ends of the wall look hideousThey used a 4" cap with a dip underneath that is very viewablePlus, the caps are hanging over the blocks & they are not flushWe wouldn't have such an issue with that part if you couldn't see the dip underneathIt looks very square & does not match our home or the other retaining wall that we have on the other side of the driveway (which I told him from the beginning I wanted them to match)
His contract states that you need to pay half the amount upfront & then the other half when the work is completed I asked if he took Visa & he stated that he did When the time came to pay he added a fee onto the total & never made us aware of that until the moment the payment was being madeOn April 18th my account has a payment posted of $ On April 25th my account has a payment of $$more then what we agreed on
When the work was completed it was raining We did a quick check of the sprinklers to make sure they were all working They were I told John again that we were not happy with the wall & the caps He argued with me that "it was done to industry standards"Not caring about the fact that we were not satisfied A couple of the caps were loose & he stated that they used a different glue this time & he would take care of it & get them glued again That initial conversation started on April 25th It is June 2nd & the caps have still not been gluedThe sod that he had his workers lay was not laid correctlyThe sod turned yellow & almost died right away When I told him this he said I wasn't watering enough I had my sprinklers set to water the entire section every two hours He then went & checked our neighbors sprinkler box (on their property without their permission) & said theirs wasn't on I was watering their section by hand with a hose Clearly, I understand that new sod needs to be watered very oftenThe sod started to come back after excessive watering, but it is still yellow It does not match our current grass & you can see where it was laid You can still see the track marks their skid loader left as well
The small retaining wall in the front of our house is not flush with the house either It sticks out in the back & looks terrible It is not straight nor is the one in the back They both have a small curved look to them
I am attaching several screenshot texts between John & myself & then John & my husband to back all of these facts up
He stated that he would send us a check for $for two of the caps that were not glued Almost all caps that are not glued He offered this to us Then when I asked him when he would be sending the check to reimburse us for ALL of the caps he changed & said he wasn't reimbursing us for anything
He even stated in one text, "I'll see you in court" when we are the customers that PAID him & we are the customers that were NOT satisfiedHe stated this when he still has an incomplete job with us It truly was our mistake to pay him for the rest of the jobWe should never have given him the second half until things were done correctlyWe trust that businessmen will honor their business & their customersThat is not always the caseThis is a lesson we have learned the hard way

Sewell Landscape & Holiday Lighting did a wonderful job from start to finish! I was able to select from a variety of optionsThe team was honest, reliable and showed up on-time! *** and his team completed the project sooner than anticipatedI highly recommend this company to anyone looking to beautify their property!

Sewell landscaping installed a foot flagstone path from our retaining wall down to our dock We had bids and Sewell came in as the lowest They came out and installed it when promised and did a very good job I would recommend them - they were very professional and did the work at a very reasonable price
