Initial Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2016/01/05) */
To whom it may concern,
I am writing in response to *** ***'s complaint against Shady Oak Vet Clinic written on 12/14/*** came in for an annual exam on 4/6/to have her cat, *** (year old Himalayan), vaccinated for
rabies because she needed that specific vaccine in order to bring her cat(s) to the groomerWe also ran a senior screen (blood work that checks all organ function), which came back normalShe came in a month later to have her cat, *** (year old Himalayan), in for an annual exam and rabies vaccineIn the months following *** receiving her rabies vaccine *** was bringing in urine samples regularly because one of her animals were urinating in the house; she was pretty sure it was ***At this time DrBarb explained that this could all be due to her being a geriatric pet (an animal who presents with arthritis, loss of hearing and/or vision, weight loss, and senility)DrBarb and *** had an in depth conversation about ***'s quality of life and various changes *** could make around the house to make it easier for *** to use the litter boxWe also recommended running blood work and x-rays to rule out a bladder stone and any diseases associated with ***'s weight loss and low specific gravity after running a urinalysis*** declined running any further diagnostics
On 10/26/*** set up an appointment to euthanize *** on 11/20/She also set up an appointment on 10/30/to euthanize *** on 11/6/We euthanized *** on 11/6/At that time we felt it wouldn't be appropriate to recommend further diagnostics again, because as a clinic we don't want to question our clients difficult decision to euthanize their animal(s) when their quality of life is in question
On November 9, 2015, *** reached out to us saying that it was the rabies vaccine that ended up making *** sick, which ultimately led to her being euthanized*** read online that cats over the age of should not be vaccinated for Rabies, because it can be lethal*** felt like we should have made her aware of this prior to euthanizing her animalThis raised concern, because were not aware that the rabies vaccine was unsafe for geriatric pets, so we called Zoetis (Defensor Vaccine Company) to ask them about the safety of their vaccineAfter explaining our clients case to one of the Veterinarians with Zoetis he didn't think the symptoms *** was having were directly related to receiving the rabies vaccine months priorHe felt like she most likely had some underlying condition that we were not aware of because the client declined further diagnosticsHe explained that the rabies vaccine is very safe and if there were a reaction most happen immediately following the injectionWe also contacted the U of M, Cornell University, and the University of WI to see if they had any studies showing that rabies was unsafe for geriatric petsWe could not find any source of information stating that the rabies vaccine is unsafe for any animal
In closing we feel sorrow for ***'s loss of ***, but we do not feel it was due to an act of malpracticeThe law requires rabies due to human exposure risk and our client needed that vaccine in order to bring her cat to the groomer, so there was no need for us to question that decision
Sincerely,
DrBarb ***

This explanation is in response to DrBarb Owner of Shady Oak vet clinicSadly DrBarb is mistaken with her facts and paperworkOf course she is trying to protect her business and not being accountable for her mis diagnosis of ***I did bring in *** for a rabies vaccine 4/6/I was never for warned that a rabies shot can be lethal for a senior catWhich I look to the vet to provide expertise on knowledge*** is an indoor cat and if it can be dangerous I would have expected the vet to explain that to me and would not have gone there for the shot of course. Also, I would not have taken her to the new groomerMy regular groomer closed their doors unexpected*** get knotted up because of long hair, needs to be professionally groomedIf I knew the rabies shot could be lethal I would have found a groomer that would groom without rabies shot for senior cat.By law if it would kill an animal I would also think the vet would tell you this informationDr Barb did admit that the rabies shot did have something if not was the reason for her being sick and having her euthanized (after being put down)I have a dog - King Charles Cavalier, *** yrs old and another Himalayan cat - *** who is years oldI have never considered putting any of my pets down until DrBarb suggest it when I brought in my pets because one of them was urinating on my rug & carpetDrBarb is incorrect with her facts when she said she thought I was sure it was ***Actually she was the healthist of all my pets even at years old so I never considered that it was herIn fact I never realized it was something to with the rabies shot until after DrBard euthanized herDrBarb suggest I euthanized *** for quality of lifeIf I would have know it was the rabies shot causing her medical issues I would have treated her differently or gotten a second opinionVery sad that I had to discover the diagnosis shady oak vet gave was incorrect after the fact.In fact Dr Barbs other vet gave *** that lethal shot, Dr SharonBecause I did not know if was *** at the time that was urinating in the house I had first brought my dog in ***, to Shady oak vet to be testedShady Oak vet said that she should be treated for urinary tract infectionI placed *** on the medicationThe diagnosis was incorrect ends up *** never had urinary tract infectionThen I brought in *** to be checkedShady Oak then diagnosed her as having urinary tract infectionI placed *** on Urinary tract infectionEnds up *** did not have a urinary tract infection another mis diagnosisI ended up spending alot of money on Shady Oaks mis diagnosisI was looking to them for their medical experience and knowledge which they appear to be lacking inThe only reason I finally found out it was *** is because I was standing on the rung and she peed on it right in front of meEnds up my healthist pet, *** was the one \urinating on the rug*** was the last one of my pets that I thought was the one urinating, the other had been treated for what reason I am not sureAgain, I spent money on misdiagnosisI took *** in and she was diagnosed with urinary tract infection, I placed her on medication that DrBarb prescribedDrBarb also took blood and we discussed testing but after discussing she recommended first going through the medication for urinary tract infectionShe never again mentioned checking her blood after treating her twice for urinary tract infectionIn fact I forgot about testing her bloodDrBarb should have brought it up and strongly suggestedThe peeing did not stop and DrBarbed recommended she go back on the medication and for me to consider put her down, (she never related the rabies shot with her symptoms)Again I would have treated her differently or at least gotten a second opinionShe also said I might consider putting my other cat, *** down because she has a slight case of kidney failure and has regular blood work doneI had never considered thatDrBarb said how do you choose which one to put down? I was shocked but wasn't sure what to think at that time
I decided to euthanize *** because of DrBarbs mis diagnosisWhich at the time I thought was correct at the timeI even mentioned the weight lose, peeing on the floor, dementia the day I brought her in to be euthanized and asked about the rabies shot and that all this seemed to be occurring since that rabies shotDrBarb had no commentI look to the vet for their knowledge and expertiseI am saddened that this occurred with my *** and coming to the Revdex.com so others are informed of the incompetence and pain that this vet clinic, Shady Vet, DrBarb has caused
I did call the Humane Society for advice and the individual in the investigation dept suggest I sit down with DrBarb,DrSharon and myself to just talk about what happenedDrBarb declined and said her lawyer suggested she not meet with meI asked why, she just said it was recommended that she not meet to discussI asked her if she though this could be malpractice and did not respond
Please let me know if you need additional details, dates, charges etcand I will provide
