Shaffers 24 Hr Towing & Recovery Reviews (4)

My Jeep Wrangler was towed to Shaffer’s Towing and Recovery at Old Highway SW, Corydon Indiana on May 13, Following a series of delays and diagnostic reports, I was informed the engine needed to be replaced I met with the office manager on June and requested a detailed account of all associated expenses before making a decision; she provided a written breakdown and indicated I would be able to pay a part up front and set the remainder up on payments Based on the information she provided, I decided to follow through with the engine replacement On June 9, I paid $3,toward this amount On June 27, I was notified the Jeep was ready and that I owed the remaining $1,plus an additional $1,above the written quote The owner gave one explanation for the increase, and the office manager gave another When I communicated that was not doable; they finally adjusted the invoice but told me making payments was no longer an option
I picked up

We, at Shaffers 24 Hr Towing & Recovery, are deeply saddened to hear about this complaint. We pride ourselves on our outstanding work and customer satisfaction. However, we believe the complaints listed are unjustified and untrue. We attempted a number of measures to obtain the cheapest fix to...

the complainant’s vehicle, but the engine ultimately needed to be replaced. After the original $3,540.00, the complainant’s quote was $1,700.00. However, we were able to complete the replacement for much cheaper, being $1,065.61. It is common for indicator lights to come on after an engine replacement. The complainant was advised to set an appointment to correct these problems. However, instead of bringing the vehicle back in to make the necessary adjustments, the complainant cancelled her check for our services, and continued driving the vehicle, which is the one (1) thing you do not want to do. Further, we left the vehicle in the same condition as we received it. We did not leave items in the vehicle. We did not drive the vehicle for personal use. We did not, nor have we ever, stolen items out of this vehicle, or any other vehicle. We have been in business for twenty (20) years. Indicator lights commonly come on after an engine replacement. Often times, it is not a serious issue. Prior customers have experienced this problem, but upon bringing the vehicle back, we were able to resolve these issues. However, we have never, in twenty (20) years, received a single complaint like any of the other complaints made here.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. The response contains numerous false statements and is inconsistent with both information provided to me and the condition of my Jeep upon pick-up. I am unable to speak to their satisfaction level with prior customers; I can only provide an accurate account of my experience.  Regarding the invoice discrepancy:  when [redacted] called to tell me the Jeep was ready, she said I owed the invoice balance of $1,065.61 plus an additional $1,700.  When I told her that was not doable, she went so far as to say she expected the owner to make her pay the difference if I refused to do so.  She provided one explanation for the additional expense; the owner provided another, neither of which appeared credible. When I picked up the Jeep, the owner and mechanic both mentioned an issue with the zipper they discovered when they removed the top; my inquiries as to why the top was taken off to replace the engine still have gone unanswered.  The top being taken off led to the latch failing to close properly and mice taking over the vehicle.  I provided a detailed description of the condition in my initial filing… traces of mice throughout the vehicle (including a nest in the glove compartment); a mud daubers nest; grease on the seat; a greasy shop towel; and shredded tissue, dirt and nuts.  This is far from the condition in which they found my Jeep. The [redacted] movie under the driver seat points to someone driving my Jeep for personal use.  And my camera case was left open with a Nikon lens missing.  If Shaffer’s will provide a list of all employees and driver’s license numbers, I will attempt to check with [redacted] about the movie rental and with area pawn shops regarding my camera lens.  These behaviors highlight the level of disrespect Shaffer’s employees consistently showed for my property and for me; they should be held accountable. With regards to stopping payment on the check:  the same warning light that was on when the Jeep broke down was still on after a supposed engine replacement, as were three additional lights. The garage employees had already proven to be less than trustworthy, and they were getting ready to close for an 11-day vacation.  As any reasonable consumer would do under these circumstances, I stopped payment on the check.  Immediately afterward, I called Shaffer’s and explained.  From the beginning, I emphasized that I would reissue payment in full once the issues were resolved. I sent three follow-up e-mails expressing my concerns about the warning lights and attempting to schedule service/repairs upon their return from vacation; I received no response. I made inquiries about the top being removed, the condition of the vehicle and the [redacted] movie; again, no response.  At this point, I am unsure if the engine even needed to be replaced or if it was actually done.
Regards,
[redacted]
