On September 17, 2019, my daughter was in a minor accident with my vehicle in Carver County and the Sheriff's department was dispatched for assistance in the accident. Prior to my arrival at the accident scene, the Sheriff's department called Shakopee Towing to handle the removal of my vehicle as it was not drivable. Shakopee Towing stated that they would take the vehicle back to their yard which I disputed and stated that I would like my car to be delivered to a local body shop. The tow driver stated that the bill would need to be paid and that it was $300.00. I agreed to pay the tow fee at $300.00. The tow driver called his manager to see about my paying the tow fee. The tow driver then stated that his manager said that he could not deliver it to the local body shop and that he would have to take it back to their yard in Shakopee. The tow driver further stated that insurance would cover the tow and storage fees but failed to give any valid reasoning for not delivering my vehicle to my requested location. I went to Shakopee Towing in person on September 18, 2019 to retrieve my vehicle. Upon receipt and review of the detailed invoice, I asked the employee why my vehicle was unable to be delivered to my requested location yesterday. The employee could not answer the question and gave a bunch of hypothetical opinions. This business hijacked my property for its own monetary gain. The bill not even 24 hours later, was $442.39, an addition of $142.39 from the original statement of fees and I had to tow my car to another location. Additionally, the Sheriff's department called the tow service and did not give me the option to hire a different company. Based on research, a tow would have been between $180-280 for the needed service and traveling less than 10 miles to the requested drop location. Disallowing me the right to my vehicle and then charging me an additional amount after the fact is unethical business practices and just plain WRONG!!!
We are very concerned about the complaint that we received from Miss *** regarding Shakopee Towing. Our reputation is very important to us. On September 17, 2019 we responded to a rolled over vehicle on it’s side requested by the Carver County Sheriff’s Department. Miss *** was on location and requested for us to bring her vehicle to a local body shop. Because of the time of day, the body shop would be closed upon delivery. Our driver informed her that we would bring it there but she would need to pay for our services at the time of completion. Miss *** asked how much she would need to pay. At that time the driver was still in the process of hooking up her vehicle and gave her an approximate estimated cost of $300. At the time she did not want to pay, she wanted us to charge her insurance company. This is not protocol. We would need to secure payment from either her or the body shop to ensure our services would be covered. It is never our practice to disregard a customer’s request. She agreed to have us take the vehicle back to our lot to let the insurance company handle everything, which would also secure payment to Shakopee Towing. The following day Miss *** came to our location and found that there were additional charges. The extra charges were for lot fees and additional mileage. She paid the charges and had another towing company tow it out of our lot. We are a little confused because the day before she agreed to let her insurance company handle it for her because she didn’t want to pay for our services. As we explained the day before to her, they would have either sent out an adjuster to determine the extent of the damage or they would’ve had it towed to the body shop she requested. This would secure payment for our services.
We are very sorry if there was a miscommunication between Miss *** and our tow operator, but unfortunately we are unable to refund her for services that we performed. The driver was following protocol.

I am rejecting this response because:
I never once agreed to my insurance company handling anything. I stated that I would pay the tow charges in full at the accident location. The tow driver had completed hooking up my vehicle and he was pushing aggressively to have my insurance company handle everything and to take it to their lot. A sheriff was standing there listening to the conversation as he was waiting for the tow driver to leave. As the tow driver was leaving at 4:30 p.m. and going approximately 8 miles to my body shop, there would have been someone there to intake the vehicle as their business hours are until 5:30 p.m. This company blatantly disregarded my directions and could be said to have hijacked my property.
First of all we would never just take a persons vehicle anywhere without consent from the registered owner. We have no problem taking a vehicle to any location the customer would like to go. In doing so we would need the tow bill paid at the time of the drop. If the owner doesn't want to pay the tow bill then we would typically bring it back to our lot for the insurance to deal with. I guess I'm a little confused as to where the miscommunication was. This is standard protocol for any towing company.
