Plumbing comapny dug a hole in the front yard to repair a leak running from the house to the city owned water main. Proceeded to track mud into the house as they claimed to need to check toilets for leaks. Unknown to the plumber the city of [redacted] department of water management had been by 2 days prior to check the toilets for leaks, and had replaced flappers and did a leak test. Plumber claimed there were additional leaks after leaks had been repaired by a professional and added charge to the invoice In addition to a $75 service chargeDesired SettlementRefund of 42.50 for "flapper repair" and $75 "service charge" reimbursed for tracking mud into the carpets and on the doors leading into the house and bathroomsBusiness Response This customer was serviced by our company. The City had already indicated to the customer that there was a leak and the customer would be responsible for the repair. So the customer contacted our company to make the repair. At time of service, we first repaired a leak in the yard by digging, etc. After the repair, we turned water back on and the meter still indicated that a problem existed so we needed to check inside. Before entering the house, I removed my shoes because I was in the muddy yard and did not want to stain the customers floors. This is a practice we always adhere to in order to stain customers floors. Then I proceeded to check all toilets in the house. Upon that inspection, we noted that there was a leak in the one of toilets in hallway. We then did a toilet minor rebuild to replace the flapper in that toilet bath. That repair stopped the leak. The owner's son (approximately 18-20 yrs) was there throughout the repair and the owner had returned by the completion of service. Both were without complaints of repairs nor of mud stains on the floors. Had there been any questions or concerns from the customer at service completion, we would have retified the matter immediately. It is regrettable that the customer is filing such a complaint at this time for services properly rendered after the fact. Service charges are standard for such a service call. Consumer Response I was not present for the repair. Had I been I would have known that a $50 "minor rebuild to replace the flappers" was unnecessary. I know this because as mentioned previously the flappers were replaced prior to your visit. Additionally, the tanks have pumps that cut off if there is a leak. The two individuals you speak of are not the ones filing the complaint. I came home to mud on the door, mud in the bathrooms, and the invoice. What is regrettable is that you took advantage of the situation, and the people who contacted you to fix the leak. I've said all I needed to say. And I am not sure why he would make them directly to you without ever having talk with our company (at service or by phone) However, we do not want to continue this correspondence. Therefore, in an effort to resolve this matter, we will refund the money directly to the consumer.
