Mid County Plumbing was hired by Mr*** contractor to provide plumbing for a project in La Belle, TXThis project was to include a water main to a buildingThe water main was to be installed at 12" deep, which is industry standardAt some point during installation of the water line Mr
*** arrived to the job site and directed our employees to install the water line at 30" deepThere was never a discussion with the Mid County Plumbing office in regards to the depth of the water line, nor additional cost until after the installationMr*** also decided to change the size of the water line from 1/4" to 1" pipe and offered to pick up the materials to accommodate the changeAt a later time Mr*** spoke to his contractor about receiving a refund for supplying his own materials for his water lineWe informed the contractor that we were not going to refund Mr*** for his material purchase, because there was such a financial loss due to the depth change of the water lineMr*** should have contacted his contractor and requested a change order, at which time his contractor would have contacted us and requested a quote for the change in depth of the lineAs far as the installation of the water line, our employee stated that he raised the elevation towards the building to math the depth of the water line sleeve that was installed in the concrete slab at an earlier dateMr*** was doing some work himself, using a trencher and hit the water line at approximately 20" deep, which is approximately 6"-8" deeper than industry standardsMr*** then took it upon himself to trench across and hit the water line a second timeWe agreed to go back and find the line at 30" deep and continue towards to building at 30" deep for an additional cost of $We called Mr*** and told him that we were on our way to repair his waterlineWe were told he was not able to be there at that time and that we were not allowed on site to do the repair without his presenceOur employees had the materials with them to complete the repair and there would have been no additional cost above the previously stated $to make the repairThe sleeve which was previously installed in the slab would have allowed us to install the new water line into the building as requested without our employees needing to enter the buildingDuring discussion with Mr***, it was explained that this is the only time we had to complete the repair and our employees were already in route to do the repairOur employees were fully capable of making the repair without Mr*** being presentMr*** was then asked if he was going to allow us to come and make the repair to his water lineMr*** response was "No" and stated that he did not trust us to do the work without him being on siteMr*** was then told that he would need to find a new plumbing contractor to make his water line repairAt a later date Mr*** came to the Mid County Plumbing office and stated his concernsIt was then explained to him exactly as it is explained in this statement and that we could no longer do work for him if we were not trusted to be on his propertyMr*** continued to argue and was asked to leave the Mid County Plumbing officeHe refused to vacate the building and was eventually escorted off of the premisesAll of this could have been avoided if Mr*** would have gone through the proper channelsHe should have contacted his contractor, which in turn would have contacted usA change order would have been madeWe then could have informed our employees of the change and been able to ensure the depth of the line per the change orderAt this point, we feel the material Mr*** supplied should amount to about $The estimated cost of the additional work that we would have had our employees do is $Therefore, we do not feel that we owe Mr*** any type of settlement

Complaint:
I am rejecting this response because:
I can agree with a few things Mid County Plumbing wrote. “All of this could have been avoided if Mr*** would have gone through the proper channelsHe should have contacted his contractor, which in turn would have contacted us.” I do have to add that my contractor was aware of what was happening, they just were not informed first. I did make a mistake there, but I fail to see how that alleviates Mid County Plumbing of doing the job I was told by one of their representatives would be done. I was told the water line will be 30” down, not call the office, or I can’t do that. You can’t see it after it’s buried; you have to take their word for it. I also struggle saying “ALL of this could have been avoided”, because I still may have had a problem with the depth. In that case though I would hope the repair would not have been refused. I am a do it yourself kind of person. I recognized that this job was too large for me to handle. This was the first time I had ever hired a General Contractor to handle a construction project for me. I did some learning on this one. It came at the expense of dollars in a few places, but this is the only place that it came at the expense of a relationship with a contractor. The next point that I can agree on is “Mr*** also decided to change the size of the water line from 1/4" to 1" pipe” I did change the size of the water line. When it was pointed out to me that my water main meter was only 3/inch it didn’t seem to make sense to install a 1.25” line. I offered to get the material while they were digging so that they wouldn’t have to spend extra time to make the change. From the beginning I expected at least a partial refund on the materials that they brought on site. Why would I “offer to pick up the materials to accommodate the change”? The job didn’t get any harderThe materials didn’t cost them any money. The material didn’t take them longer to install. When I asked my contractor to request my refund I was told that I would not be receiving a refund due to the depth of the water line. I felt that was reasonable and agreed. Mid County Plumbing made no request for additional funds. Everybody seemed happy. Mid County Plumbing- “As far as the installation of the water line, our employee stated that he raised the elevation towards the building to match the depth of the water line sleeve that was installed in the concrete slab at an earlier date.” The sleeve exits the building at a depth of about 12”. I trenched the water line at 20” depth, approximately feet from the sleeve. Mathematically that is a slope of degrees, and the entire run of the slope from 30” deep to 12” deep would be feet! This would look even worse if I had calculated it from the point that I trenched it at a depth of 14”. Further, the material that was used is not rigid. It is shipped in a roll approximately feet in diameter, so it should be capable of making a degree foot radius bend.Mid County Plumbing- “Mr*** was then asked if he was going to allow us to come and make the repair to his water lineMr***'s response was "No" and stated that he did not trust us to do the work without him being on site.” This is completely true. I had not been given a reason to trust them. The job was not done as I was told it would be the first time. This isn’t something I can see after its buried. If it was I wouldn’t have hit the water line with a trencher. The first time I trusted them, the second time I needed to see it with my own eyes.Mid County Plumbing-“Our employees had the materials with them to complete the repair and there would have been no additional cost above the previously stated $to make the repair.” Part of our deal for the repair was I would provide the PEX tubing or the price of the repair would be more than $400. Since I already had the PEX I wanted to save the money.Mid County Plumbing-“The sleeve which was previously installed in the slab would have allowed us to install the new water line into the building as requested without our employees needing to enter the building.” There is now a building girt less than foot above the sleeve that would not have allowed the tubing to be installed very far into the building. I wanted more tubing in the building before having to splice it.I feel a little insulted by their tactics. I take it as a personal attack that they lie about my demeanor by saying “Mr*** continued to argue and was asked to leave the Mid County Plumbing officeHe refused to vacate the building and was eventually escorted off of the premises.” I was there to argue, but I was not one time asked or told to leave. It was clear that they didn’t want me there (as I didn’t want to be there), but no such request to vacate the premises had been made. It was a difficult situation to be in. I wanted to leave, but I had to be there to do what I could for my cause. When they said, “Mr*** it’s time for you to leave” I left within seconds. I am very proud of my work ethic, integrity, and earned reputation. If you call me out on that, I’ll stand Tall. Sincerely,
*** ***
