Charged for work that was completed improperly and did not repair the vehicle to any standard that was promised.Vehicle was taken to the service department at Sherwood Chevrolet on 02/02/2015 due to expected carburator problems. Oil change, vehicle inspection, inspection of starter, and replacement of fuel and air filters were also requested in addition to diagnostic of the carburator. Carburator was discovered to be needing a rebuild. All other requests were fulfilled. Quote for rebuild kit with labour was approx $650 CAD. As work on the carburator progressed it was discovered that a vacuum line would need to be replaced as well as the electronic choke coil. All work was authorized and completed on 02/11/2015 with a total billing of $1065.29 CAD broken down with specific costs for carburator rebuild = $667.65 CAD, choke coil = $ 114.75 CAD, and starter = $41.70 CAD. Which was paid in full. After arriving home in [redacted] I found that the vehicle was not running properly with a high idle and symptoms such as the vehicle lunging into gear, "dieseling" when stoping the engine, hard starting in all conditions and engine flooding. Further investigation uncovered that the repairs done to the engine were not as promised by Sherwood Chevrolet service department and not done properly to any standard for any journeyman mechanic. The problems that were discovered included improperly functioning choke as the choke would not open or close properly due to improper choke coil installation. Also found maladjusted were the idle set screw, fast idle set screw, as well as air mixture and fuel mixture set screws. The engine was indeed flooding and found to be caused by the improper installation and part used for the carburator float during rebuild, which should have been copper but was found to be plastic. The float was not functioning properly causing the engine to flood which explains why they had to set the idle and mixture screws improperly. Also found was an improper vacuum advance hose connections. Currently I am continuing to have problems with the starter despite being told it is functioning properly and will be having this problem addressed next after taking care of the previously listed issues. Basically Sherwood Chevrolet service centre charged me for work that was not completed properly nor to the standard with which I was promised and should not have been attempted by any individual who was not able to complete the task to meet that obligation. I am looking to receive a refund on the costs for improper repair on the following :Carburator Rebuild = $667.65 CADChoke Coil Replacement = $114.75 CADBusiness Response [redacted] I have been in direct consultation with the Shop Foreman ,Shop Manager , Service Advisor and Technician .In our discussion we have determined that this is the first and only contact that has been received from the consumer in regards to his dissatisfaction with work performed. The stated repair was completed by a Technician and overseen by the Shop Manager. In addition, it was repaired correctly to the standards required with proper parts . The Dealership is in no position to reimburse the consumer his requested amount, as no opportunity was given to resolve his concernsConsumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Unfortunately I do not accept the response from Sherwood Chevrolet, however I did expect it to be exactly as such. The company was given ample opportunity to make good on the standards of which the work was to be performed and the opportunity to resolve my concerns were ongoing throughout. There is no reason to have to incur further costs to rectify what was assured to me in the first place. [redacted] Final Business Response We have discussed the situation at length once again. Going back to the beginning, The Foreman oversaw the repair of Mr. [redacted]'s 1984 [redacted]. As the job progressed, we found it would take longer due to the limited availability of parts for a vehicle that is over 30 years old. As such, we offered this out of town customer a courtesy vehicle at no charge. He was advised that Sherwood Chevrolet would call him when the parts arrived and that he could keep the loaner, at no charge, until the repairs were completed. A Service Advisor kept Mr. [redacted] up-to-date throughout and he was also called upon completion. Mr. [redacted] picked up his vehicle and this complaint through the Revdex.com is the first we are hearing of his concern. Based on what know of how we handled this repair from start to finish we feel that no further action is required
